National Detectives Awards Winner 2025 - DC Jayne Jones
Transcript
00:00I nominated Jane because she's one of the best detectives that I've ever encountered.
00:07She's selfless, she's dedicated, professional, absolutely exudes everything that I would want
00:15as a detective and she's excellent in everything that she does.
00:19I love meeting people. I love meeting people from everywhere,
00:23liking their stories and finding out about their lives. I love investigating,
00:29the devil's in the detail, I like scratching the surface and finding out everything there is to find
00:36and really engaging in people's lives and trying to help them.
00:40It's the most traumatic and emotional cases that you could encounter, obviously young children being
00:46violated in such a manner and it does take a lot of psychological impact as well as obviously the
00:52emotional impact as well. I would always say to someone it can be hard, it is traumatic,
00:58you have to rely on each other, you have to have a good team, you've got to build really good rapport
01:03and help each other. The good thing for policing and also for other partners is that if we do a proper
01:09job there's a good outcome at the end and so you have that satisfaction even if the whole process
01:15has been difficult. If I'm honest I don't think the public always understand what the police are dealing
01:19with and other partners because social workers have a very hard time as well, they have a really grueling
01:24job but it's about people, it's about teamwork and it's about the victims who they've come to you,
01:32they've reported, they've put their trust in you, you've got to listen deeply. You know on the day
01:37the jury comes back and says that guilty verdict is really a big deal, it can be quite emotional
01:45because it's a life-changing moment for that victim and their family. It can be the difference
01:51between the person who's ruined their lives for years never ruining their life again and that's
01:57what your, that's the difference your investigation has made and if you've done it properly
02:01it's literally changed their lives and potentially also saved a life because trauma often results in
02:08people not being here. She genuinely cares, every single one of her victims she's tirelessly works
02:13with them to achieve the outcome at court together with her colleagues and her support is unparalleled
02:19for these victim survivors. My main incentive and most of my colleagues, we care deeply about these
02:24children and their outcomes and where they're going in the future and also their families and
02:29our communities so if you're not driven by that you can't help people so it is hard but you can only
02:35have people in this world who really care.
