00:00Democrats in Tanzania, we need Democrats in Tanzania.
00:03Recent times have witnessed growing unrest and protests around the world,
00:09often fueled by people's demands for justice and better governance.
00:14Sadly, these protests have sometimes resulted in tragedy,
00:19with lives lost and many arrested on several charges.
00:23The United Nations UN has stepped forward calling for thorough investigations
00:29into these events to ensure justice and protect human rights.
00:35On November 11, 2025, the United Nations openly demanded a comprehensive investigation
00:42into the killing of numerous protesters in Tanzania during the recent disputed elections.
00:48United Nations human rights chief Volka Turk expressed deep concern
00:54over what he described as an apparent attempt by the government
00:58to conceal evidence regarding the deaths of protesters.
01:03Turk stressed the urgency of transparency and accountability,
01:08emphasizing the need for authorities to release the bodies of the deceased
01:12to their families for proper funerals.
01:16Reports of families desperately searching everywhere for their loved ones,
01:20visiting one police station after another and one hospital after another are harrowing, he said.
01:28The situation in Tanzania highlights the grim reality
01:31faced in many countries where protests meet violence crackdowns.
01:37Following the October 29 elections, widespread demonstrations erupted,
01:42met by security forces with Leather Force.
01:45The main opposition party, Tadema, has estimated that about 2,000 people were killed in just three days of the protest.
01:54While the government has not officially confirmed these numbers,
01:58the UN site report believing hundreds have died.
02:03Though, the exact death toll remains difficult to verify due to ongoing security concerns
02:10in an extended internet shutdown.
02:13Adding to detention, hundreds of protesters have been charged with treason.
02:18Among those targeted are key opposition figures and influential voices criticizing the government.
02:25Such as preacher Josephus Gwojima, whose judge was deregistered earlier this year after he spoke out against human rights abuses.
02:35Notably, opposition leader Tundu Nisu has been imprisoned for months and now faces treason charges due to his calls for electoral reforms.
02:46St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tanzania also condemned the killings, stating that there would be no peace without justice,
02:55underlining the urgent need for a transparent investigation to prevent further violence and human rights abuses.
