00:42We want to just confirm kung UNVAS ba ito or ANVAS.
00:46Pero una sa lahat, paano ba nagsimula yung ideya nito
00:49at kung ano ang naging inspirasyon mo para gawing art canvas
00:54ang mga tuyong dahon ng saging?

00:57Yes po, UNVAS po siya.
01:01So we call it as UNVAS or UNAS canvas.
01:04So nabuo po ang UNVAS after I received a call from former OFW Jimmy Sorabia
01:10who called about a problem on the pile of UNAS or dried banana leaves in his backyard.
01:18So this has been a problem being faced by our banana farmers after banana harvesting.
01:24So yun po, nabuo po siya after dun po sa call because they wanted to create a material
01:33that would become a source of income po for their group.
01:37So yun po, basically, dun po nag-stop art yung UNVAS.
01:40Alright, so anong pagkakaiba nito dun sa traditional canvas na ginagamit ng mga artists?
01:44At paano sa tingin mo nakakatulong sa ating kapaligiran?
01:48Kasi nga, yung mga traditional canvases, galing din naman sila sa kalikasan.
01:55First po, yung raw material na ginamit namin, it's from dried banana leaves.
02:00So it's different from the ones available in the market kasi nga po, yung raw material namin is also different.
02:08So yung purpose niya po kasi is not only as an art canvas but we have also further developed it into accessories for lifestyle and mga home materials po.
02:22So naiiba po siya, unique po siya in such a manner na aside sa raw material niya,
02:29it's also a community driven, community driven project.
02:34So yun po.
02:35Di ba yung sustainability kita rito?
02:38Pero Stephanie, we want to know, sa tingin mo, paano nakatutulong ang UNVAS para sa pagpapalago ng art industry sa Pilipinas
02:49at maging ang pagpopromote na rin ng sustainable materials sa paggawa ng art supplies?
02:55Go ahead.
02:55I would like to share na yung UNVAS, what we are really promoting here is yung pag-upcycle ng ating dried banana leaves.
03:09And aside from that, it's giving income po sa ating mga marginal communities to include persons deprived of liberties,
03:18former OFWs, mga working youth natin, including women of war, and very recently nga po yung sa gumamela cooperative in Quezon City.
03:28So as to the question po na how is this helping po, yun po, so it's providing livelihood para po sa ating mga partner communities.
03:40Alright. Steph, well, in terms of pricing, curious lang din ako, mas mura ba itong UNVAS,
03:48dun sa UNVAS, o dun sa, kumpara dun sa traditional CANVAS?
03:53At nagsagawa din pala kayo ng community workshop pa sa amin yung DOST TAPI,
03:59yung Gumamela Neighborhood Association Housing Cooperative.
04:02Pakikwento mo, ano yung naging focus yun dito?
04:04Yes po. In terms of the price po, mas mura po kami kasi yung target market po talaga natin
04:11ay yung mga students who have visual arts po na klases sa mga high schools.
04:21So they are required to purchase yung mga 200 plus na CANVAS.
04:26So we are offering an alternative art CANVAS that is sustainable,
04:30that can accommodate acrylic and oil-based paints. At the same time, ano siya,
04:35cheaper or more affordable compared po sa usual art CANVAS.
04:42And yes po, just last weekend po, nagkaroon po kami ng workshop
04:47about yung pagawa ng mga accessories natin galing sa UNVAS.
04:52Kasi from the art CANVAS, we also further developed it into beads.
04:57We also developed the coating such that yung mga beads po natin,
05:02ginagawa po natin mga accessories, mga home decors, yun po.
05:07So yun po yung itinuro natin sa ating Gumamela Cooperative last weekend.
05:12E paano naman nakatulong yung galing program ng DOST TAPI sa iyong project na UNVAS?
05:19Kasi meron yun eh, pwede salihan yun yung galing program.
05:22Yes po, actually, yung pag, yung na-avail ko po sa galing na program,
05:31sobrang madami na po. Ako po atay yung recipient nila na parang
05:35not only one, two or three programs po na-avail po.
05:42Yung isa po is the tech validation.
05:44So they are giving me funding para po ma-validate po talaga natin yung ating technology.
05:51And right now, I am doing my market validation.
05:55Also being funded by DOST TAPI through Galing.
05:58And aside from that, they are also giving me like yung mga mentorship through Hirang.
06:05So since, hindi ko po ata nasabi kanina, but I am a chemistry educator, also a researcher.
06:15So most of the time, I really work in school and in the lab.
06:19And yung business na aspect po talaga, ito po talaga yung parang, I'm still learning about it.
06:26And grateful na with DOST TAPI and other agencies like WIMSU, WIMSU-ATBI,
06:32they are helping me po get through sa dito po na aspect.
06:37Alright, so aside from these activities na nabanggit mo, no,
06:40Steph, moving forward, ano pa yung mga susunod na plano para sa UNVAS?
06:44At ano pa yung mga nakikita niyong hakbang na maaaring niyong gawin para mas mapalawak pa ito?
06:50We are actually developing other outputs or other materials.
06:56From UNVAS, like right now, we are doing UNVAS leather.
07:01So for packaging sa ating mga accessories.
07:05And yung mga ways forward natin, siyemple, we would want UNVAS to expand
07:09so that we can also cater more marginal communities and provide them livelihood.
07:17So yun po ata yung mga nasa first priority namin.
07:23As of, you know, yung pagpalago ng aming partner communities
07:29or pagpapag-expand ng aming partner communities
07:33at the same time po, yung taglawak na rin ng reach ng ating mga UNVAS products.
