00:00Cleveland Browns offensive line failure sparks debate over who is to blame for Shador Sanders' awful debut.
00:07Shador Sanders made his NFL regular season debut for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after Kevin Stefanski benched Dylan Gabriel in the third quarter.
00:16However, Sanders struggled even more, as the Browns failed to score in the second half, and the quarterbacks combined for just 115 yards on 11 completions, with Sanders completing only 4 of 16 passes.
00:28The son of Deion Sanders entered the game early in the second half.
00:32He completed only 25% of his passes for 47 yards with 1 interception and 0 touchdowns, and finished with only 6 net yards on 16 total dropbacks.
00:43He also took 2 sacks, fumbled, and got called for intentional grounding.
00:47His 13.5 passer rating was the lowest of the Shador Sanders.
00:51To add salt to the wound, Kyle Hamilton hit Shador Sanders with his own celebration after a sack.
00:57You could see the frustration on the rookie signal caller's face after the second sack.
01:02To be completely fair, it's not like the offensive line did him a ton of favors.
01:06The Ravens' defense was swarming, but Sanders once again failed to get the ball out.
01:10It is the same problem as college.
01:13Some fans blame Kevin Stefanski for Sanders' poor debut, arguing he wasn't given first-team reps in practice.
01:19A fair point, as it's tough to run an offense you're unfamiliar with.
01:23Kurt Warner agrees, but notes that QB2s generally don't get many reps with the first-team offense.
01:29Others try to blame the offensive line.
01:31The quarterback sets the protection.
01:34One image from the second half sparked debate.
01:36Sanders was left exposed as his offensive line split unevenly.
01:40The center, right guard, and right tackle handled one defender to the right,
01:43while the left guard, left tackle, and running back blocked two on the left,
01:48leaving a free rusher charging down the middle.
01:50How is Sanders supposed to succeed in that situation?
01:53He's not.
01:54However, it is the quarterback who sets the protection.
01:58Former Texas Tech, LSU, Chargers, and Steelers defensive lineman, and Grey Cup champion,
02:04Bray Dunn Fajoko, set the record straight.
02:07Oh, buddy, wait till you find out who sets the protection and tells the OL which way they are going,
02:11he wrote on X.
02:12These people are among us.
02:14Some blame the offensive line, singling out center Ethan Potich for altering protection or missing the free rusher.
02:20But perhaps it's a mix of factors, or it hardly matters.
02:24Either way, Shadur Sanders' NFL regular season debut was disastrous.
