00:00hey friends welcome back in this video we're going to dive into a problem which many Power BI
00:10developers probably have faced in the past and which is now easier to solve using Microsoft
00:15Fabric. To do this we first need to create a Power BI report and for that I already am back
00:21in my Fabric trial workspace in here and I'm going to use my lake house semantic model so
00:26the second semantic model will be created based on the Fabric lake house here so let me just choose
00:30this one and then because we'd like to be efficient we're going to do it automatically so we simply
00:36click on the down arrow here and say I want to create an auto-create report so this is first for
00:43the Power BI report itself just to show you the problem first and after that we're going to dive
00:46into the page and reports to show you the solution for that so let me just pre-select data and in
00:52this case I'd like to use data from the pokemon table that's actually fine so let's have it like
00:57that and then let's just say I would like to see also the pokemon name so maybe go inside let's say
01:04for instance this visualization here let's go to adjust it personalize it and then say instead of
01:09using type one let's actually use the name of the pokemon so let's say I'd like to see the name
01:14and then I'd like to see some of the attack that's fine but maybe not as a chart here but maybe as a
01:19table so choose table instead like that and that's basically all we need to do so let me just close
01:25this for now and this is our new visualization so far so good but you probably can already see
01:31the issue at least if you are a Power BI developer so what if now the users or the end user let's say
01:37the management comes to you and say well this is nice but I exported the data to excel file and the
01:43problem is that the data is cut off what I mean by that you can see here the table and the table of
01:48course is clearly too small for showing all the pokemons in here now this is a problem because
01:55when you export this Power BI report to let's say a pdf file or also to powerpoint or to excel it is cut
02:02off it doesn't show all the data in here so the question is how can we cope with that and in the past
02:07there was the report builder available which is an external tool which you can use in order to create
02:14pageant reports but it is um I would say it's a bit clunky and it's a little bit difficult to learn
02:20so it's not that intuitive and easy to use as Power BI that's my personal view so in Microsoft
02:25fabric now we have a new option to cope with this which is pageant reports but directly inside fabric
02:31and I'm going to show you how that works so let's dive into that first that was the problem all right
02:36so let's just save this report and say this is the poker report just that poker report okay and just
02:43save it in fabric trial that's also fine click on save um so we have saved it so okay we are good to
02:49go and now let's actually go back to the model itself it's still pinned here for me so I can click
02:54this option here and then what we probably see one of you might already have seen is on the right side
03:01here under the table section there's also an option which is create pageant report it's currently in
03:06preview here but let's give it a try and see what this can do first so click on create pageant report
03:13like that and then we just wait and this is the view the editor for this pageant report builder
03:21and you can see up here build your report and down there there's a preview of what this report would
03:27look like and there are also other kinds of configuration options you currently we can see
03:32we are on the file there's an option to save it there's also an option to print or to download
03:36this report all these options are available here so you can do do the printing directly from here you
03:41don't have to do it from the powerbid file itself then under home there's also the export one more time
03:47you can see the various options and how to export this data so various formats in here as you can see
03:52here these are available excel file of course probably the most important one under view there's also a
03:58a web lower print layouts on so kind of similar to what you might be already familiar when you used
04:03word or something like that in the past and an insert there are various options to insert uh well
04:08elements to the report to make it better for instance inserting image text a header footer and so on
04:14but we'll cover this just in a moment the main thing here i'd like to highlight is there are two
04:20modes there's the viewing mode and there's the editing mode so when you want to create or change the
04:24report we always need to be in editing mode viewing mode is just viewing the results actually right
04:29which the end user couldn't then export if they want to do that now beside the editor we also have
04:34the builds this will also be relevant because there are a few additional informations which we can
04:38configure regarding the fields which we type inside and also regarding the table itself because the
04:42style could also be changing here now first and foremost to get started with this of course we need
04:48some data right so the data we're going to use is one of these tables we can of course also combine
04:53data but in this case it doesn't make sense because the data is not really related to each other
04:58that's why we go to the pokemon table and then for instance one more time i'm using the name of the
05:03pokemon right like that yes i got that and then we can also add a few additional fields like for
05:08instance i like to see the speed uh the total and maybe the hp right so adding the data in here
05:15and then you can already see the preview of what this data looks like so you can see it up here
05:19this is the table structure itself but down there you can see the preview of the data
05:24now by default the report itself has a layout which we are already familiar from powerbear desktop but
05:30of course we can change this as i've already said under here the style you can choose a different one
05:34i personally like minimal and none but it's up to you can try out different ones let's choose minimal
05:39just to show you the difference and then you would see it this is a different style that's what it looks
05:43like right also under the formatting options so for the columns of course you can also adjust them
05:49right you can drag and drop the columns on end and you can also change the default aggregation for
05:54instance if you click on the drop down menu there's also available the don't summarize the data use some
05:59average and so on so depending of course on the data type you can do different things for names of
06:03course it would be different you can also say first last count and so on so it's exactly the same
06:08aggregation types which are familiar from powerbi of course what we will also see is that the report
06:14of course covers multiple pages so you can see if you go to next page right you will see that the
06:18next page and so on so you can go through the pages also of course to the last page or you just enter
06:24the number manually that's also possible and you also see that if you scroll down that each page
06:29by default has a total column here as well now let's adjust the style a little bit let me go up here
06:35you can see that if you select the table itself you can drag this also around you can see it here
06:39you can drag it down for instance just to add some additional elements from in this case you can see
06:44here now we've got more space from the inserting option for instance we can insert a text box right
06:49click this option and then drag it up here right like that and then of course let me here this for
06:55instance is my pokemon pokemon report right so and of course you can make it bold you can change the
07:01color and so on so all this of course is possible so it's just an example so you insert this in here
07:07and then you should see it actually also appearing in here in the report page right so you can drag
07:11this around of course play around with it um adjust your your report specifically regarding these options
07:16here also what else do we have under let's go back to insert option there of course is also then an
07:23image right you can also add image from url or from a file so let me choose file and then you just need
07:29to click somewhere on the screen and then let me select it double click here and now i also have
07:34my image in here maybe i can make this a bit smaller right so from image size can drag that up here right
07:40and then i would also see here the image my report of course it's not perfect right now but it's just
07:44the idea that you can add elements from the above here and you also adjust this further padding options
07:49all text for the image and so on so just select the element then you can adjust it further if you
07:54want to do that and you can see that you also can add header and footer but these are the options
07:58which are currently available by default right so that's basically it how you can style the report
08:04itself so you can rearrange the columns you can decide what columns to use from different tables
08:09you can adjust the header and footer you can adjust the title you can adjust an image and so on so this
08:14is possible inside the pageant report finally what i'd like to show you is that you can also add
08:19parameters to your report parameters are helpful for the user if the user wants to use the pageant report
08:25but not for exporting it to excel for instance but rather to filter it directly inside the browser
08:31because what if the user now says for instance i'd like to filter this data on specific items so for
08:37instance i only would like to see the type one pokemon which are grass pokemon as an example so for that of
08:43course it makes sense to first also add the type before we do any kind of parameter realization here and
08:49let me drag this up here so this also gives us now the type of the pokemon okay so that is that and i
08:56let me just remove the speed so we got a little more space otherwise it doesn't not display correctly
09:00okay total nhb it's just a little um well misaligned currently but the idea is now how do we create
09:07those parameters well for that we can simply do the following under the filter option here you can go to
09:14the specific column you want to filter and create a parameter for and then click on the three dots so
09:19if i do that click here three dots create a parameter for type one yes i'd like to create a parameter
09:25which in algorithms called a filter here because that's basically what the parameter does and click
09:30on continue and now you see that in this case up here we have now a type parameter which currently is
09:37here all of them but just to show this to you for instance if i deselect everything and then i select
09:42for instance uh where is it fire as an example right and then i click on your report just to show
09:48this to you now we have filtered the data to fire so creating parameters like this we can also do this
09:52for the other columns as well if you've taken the three dots but this allows us to add one or multiple
09:57parameters which means filters to this page and report which the end user can then use to filter and
10:03slice and dice the data so that's also a helpful feature which is available in here and you also get
10:07this highlight that there currently is a parameter turned on right so that is that let me just select
10:13all of them again let's click on your report so far and now we have all the data are again in our report
10:20now let's actually save this report so if we go to file click on save and let's call this our patron
10:27report so paginated report and just save it in fabric trial as example click on save
10:34and now this report is saved the same way as a power via report is saved and we can also then
10:40see the report we can also adjust it manually later on if we want to do that right so if the user then
10:45says hey i need also additional parameters so fields doesn't report or i need additional columns and so
10:49on you can always adjust this manually later on if you want so let's go back to fabric trial for now
10:56so the workspace itself and let's have a look at our page net report which we created which is this one
11:00here also please note as a hint the icon is also a little bit different than for power via reports
11:05for instance right but let's click on this just to take a look at it so now let's say the end user
11:11is consuming this report he or she would see it like that another question is well why is it empty
11:17well this is a good question but the reason for this is by default the parameter is not selected so
11:22that means you first need to choose what you want to see so if i select dragon here as an example and
11:28then i click on view report then i would see a report but filtered here for the dragon problem
11:33right and if i then select all of them and click on view report then i would see of course all the
11:39data in here so that's basically it about creating paging aid reports so hopefully you have seen that it
11:45is really easy to create them and it extends the availability of well data we can give to the end users
11:51because this is something which was missing in power via especially if people wanted to export the data
11:56it was always cut off and i myself had a lot of problems regarding this to explain this to the
12:01end user but now with these ways to create paging reports it's much easier than it was in the past
12:06and it's also available as tool for us inside power bi as well as inside fabric so hopefully you enjoyed
12:12this video if you understood everything then great if not let me know answer questions otherwise
12:18thanks for watching and hopefully see you in the next video until then best guys
