00:00South Africa, under international law, would be obligated to allow them in documented or
00:28undocumented. And this would mean that they would be issued with a section 22 form, which
00:35would allow for them to then apply for asylum in South Africa and legally be allowed to stay
00:41in South Africa. Without that, if they had asked for a visitation, this is where the question
00:46arises as to whether their documentation was adequate enough.
00:58This case of the Palestinians arriving here is in twofold. The one is if they are here
01:19as asylum seekers, they have that opportunity to apply for asylum, to have their cases assessed,
01:25and within two to three weeks, then be issued with refugee permits. If they are here as
01:32visitors, which currently they have been permitted into South Africa as visitors, they have a
01:38time of 90 days to be able to spend in South Africa as visitors and currently are being
01:45hosted by humanitarian organizations who are bearing the cost of their stay.
01:52in South Africa.
01:56There are a number of requests for an investigation into the situation.
02:26And as to whether or not President Cyril Ramaphosa has overextended in welcoming the Palestinians into South Africa.
02:34But further than that is as to who authorized the plane into our airspace.
02:40Did the Civil Aviation Authority know about this plane entering into South African airspace?
02:46What those implications are around the time of the G20?
02:50Whether or not this was meant as an embarrassment for South Africa?
