00:00Pat Gelsinger, former CEO of U.S. chip giant Intel, is in Taipei with his new venture capital firm,
00:06announcing several new investments and collaborations here.
00:10Gelsinger, who ran Intel for four years, has visited Taiwan several times in recent years.
00:15He praised the country's technological prowess during his speech.
00:18There is no place like Taiwan.
00:21I sometimes joke that you can have an idea at breakfast,
00:24you can have a prototype by lunch, and you can have manufacturing by dinner.
00:30Gelsinger's new firm Playground Global publicly introduced two new portfolio companies,
00:35as well as Taiwan-based partnerships with startups it's invested in.
00:39Companies present included those working on silicon photonics and power delivery for chips,
00:43cutting-edge technologies aimed at solving the main bottlenecks of computing speed and efficiency,
00:48which analysts say are key.
00:50I'm the most excited for various technologies in power delivery.
00:54That's an area that hasn't been innovated on that much over the last two decades,
00:58and there's a lot of innovations that can come.
01:01The former tech boss also answered questions from the media.
01:04Asked about his thoughts on AI, he downplayed concerns over an investment bubble
01:08and called AI a foundational technology.
01:11He also waded into the energy debate in Taiwan,
01:13warning the country would need to address its power supply issues to stay ahead of the curve.
01:18The greatest issue in Taiwan, right, isn't even software, right, in architecture.
01:24It is energy, right?
01:26You are not in a position to have a resilient energy supply chain,
01:30and that I think puts your entire industry in a very precarious state.
01:34But those concerns haven't slowed down investments in the country.
01:38Gelsinger's announcements seem to be a vote of confidence in the future of AI
01:42and in Taiwan's tech manufacturing industry
01:45from one of the biggest names in the business.
