00:00It's certainly humbling and really it's a big privilege to do this, to be in this
00:07position to be able to do something with it and not just battle it on my own but
00:12to battle it with the community and empower them to do things that they
00:15couldn't do before. It's just great. I'm grateful for everything. I'm grateful
00:20I don't know how much of my beautiful family you've seen all through here but
00:23they're amazing and all the friends I have that come out year after year and
00:28just that we found a way to make progress and we found a way to move
00:31forward with this. I always say with gratitude optimism is sustainable. If
00:35you're grateful you can be optimistic and we're grateful and optimistic. He is a
00:40guy that we have known for like I was just thinking about how we've known of
00:47his association with Parkinson's for so long it's almost like the person he is
00:51now and it hasn't changed who he was to me before either. He's still with his
00:57disease he's still Michael J Fox that we've always loved and it's almost like
01:00I just just meeting him in person just now it just the charisma and the the
01:05person you fell in love with before the disease is still there and just shining
01:09and he's been doing it for so long and he's just felt like you know at first it
01:15felt like it was gonna be it's obviously been such a struggle but it's like to
01:18have fought it this long and to still show up to these things and have so much
01:22hope like it just shows that the battle that they have forged is winning they're
01:27winning it. This is an event I've heard about for forever and always wanted to
01:31be a part of and it's just so nice and this career where I feel like I focus on
01:35myself so much and it just because it's so selfish sometimes because you're trying
01:38to figure out how you present yourself and how you look and what you do it's so
01:42nice to that all of that selfishness has led to me being able to give back
01:46something with this thing where I just get up and I talk about myself into a
01:50microphone to be able to do that and have it be for good is such a cool aspect
01:55of this career that I never intended it so it's always feels great to like be
01:59able to do that. It's the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future people always ask me
02:03if I knew from the beginning that the movie would be such a success as my
02:07co-author Nell Fortenberry and I wrote in our new book the answer was simple
02:11definitely not but the start starting the foundation was different I always knew
02:16that this could work. Even on day one the foundation had a clear vision of what
02:22we were trying to do hire the right people listen to patients raise the money
02:27and get it into the researchers hands all as quickly as possible and you are the
02:36reason we have come this far this fast this far this fast towards ending this
02:41disease we are so grateful. We do this work for every person and family living
02:46with Parkinson's there's never been a more important time to stand up for
02:51science. That's why we're asking the government to do more not less for
02:55Parkinson's. Much work remains to be done but we're closer than ever to our goal
03:01your partnership makes it possible. Thank you.
03:05I like a Tracy.
03:12Listen I know it's not a popularity contest but how about just Tracy? Tracy! Tracy!
03:20That was that was great. That was really amazing.
03:25Good evening. Hi everybody.
03:32Oh it's such a pleasure to be here and to have such a full gorgeous room. So tonight
03:38we honor 25 years of the Michael J Fox Foundation.
03:4425 years of groundbreaking scientific progress and breakthroughs that have moved
03:50the Parkinson's field closer to a cure. 20 that's okay.
04:022025 also marks the anniversary of Michael's first hire at the foundation.
04:08Co-founder and CEO Debbie Brooks.
04:11Who narrates tonight's film about the organization's bold vision, world-class team
04:23and impact in Parkinson's research.
04:26I can't believe it's 25 years. Oh my gosh. Every autumn we come here and it's a beautiful time of year.
04:40The leaves are changing. It's not too cold. It's not too hot.
04:46The smell of urine in the streets has a touch of pumpkin spice.
04:50It's so good to be here in New York. I love it.
04:58It's 25. I'm so old. When I think of 25 years, what I wouldn't give to be 25 years younger.
05:08The sad thing is, is that 25 years ago I said the same thing.
05:15And I'm horrified at how old I am.
05:18I hate this disease. I hate it.
05:21It's hitting more people than I wanted to hit.
05:24It hit my friend and that was a solo incident.
05:28And lately, it's hitting a lot more people and I just can't stand it.
05:34It makes me so upset. It makes me so upset that it can be prevented. It can be treated.
05:40And money will do the job and the arts will do the job.
05:43I'm going to get back to the fun because this has been going on for 25 years.
05:47And each night, I mean, it does such great work, but damn it if it ain't a party.
05:52I have a great time here. I love seeing my friends.
05:55I love seeing people that I know from this community.
05:58And there is a film that was put together by John Fortenberry that highlights the past 25 years.
06:04And John, if you're ready, you wanted a cue, I'm ready. Let's go. Thanks, guys. Thank you all.
06:10Well, you know, he struggles every day. I know what it's like to live with Parkinson's because my brother has it.
06:19And every day is a struggle to just do the things that we don't even think about, like standing right here and talking to you.
06:26And he never gives up. I mean, he's just an inspiration, not just as somebody who has this debilitating disease,
06:34but as just in life in general, to just be focused and have purpose and just keep your eye on the prize.
06:42Well, as I said, my brother has Parkinson's, as do many friends. It's a scourge. It's really incredible.
06:48And all of these kind of neurological diseases, whether it's ALS or Huntington's or Parkinson's,
06:54they change people's lives. They change people's families' lives.
06:58And we really need to figure out what the, why this is happening. You know, is it environmental? Is it genetic?
07:05So he's on the forefront of all of that research.
07:08Well, I mean, what he did is to inspire you to just how many farmers.
07:14Gorgeous. I have you right here, if that's okay. You ready?
07:18You ready?
07:20And shall we try for him? I used to hide his neck.
07:24How about I can do this?
07:26How many farmers?
07:28This is fine.
07:30How many farmers?
07:32How many farmers?
07:34How many farmers?
07:36How many farmers?
07:38How many farmers?
07:40How many farmers?
07:42What's this mean to you?
07:44My husband and I try to come every farmer.
07:46I'm ready to come every farmer.
07:48It's one of our favorite nights in New York.
