00:00This isn't a life that is for everyone.
00:11They don't teach it at school.
00:14No one prepares you for it.
00:19Anybody heard of 9 to 5? I haven't.
00:22It takes focus, sacrifice, and a bit of madness.
00:40Looking at the early days when I started photography, I see this big bubble of breezy innocence.
00:52I'd go riding in the forest where I grew up, with no agenda and no care in the world.
00:58Then I graduated college.
01:01Freedom.
01:02I was my own boss, left to my own devices, with the world in front of me.
01:08Off I went on long road trips across North America, camera in tow.
01:15I learned to develop a love-hate relationship with the weather.
01:19Rain was both a blessing and a curse.
01:27Snow was good though. I always welcomed snow.
01:34He wasn't comfortable living out of the back of a car.
01:39Dollar cheeseburgers, truck stop showers.
01:43But the things I got to see and do made it all worth it.
01:49Packing and unpacking. The grind. Shooting and then editing into the night.
01:59That was the beat of my life. For years.
02:03Because I had no ties, I could go whatever the wind would take me.
02:07I wasn't a very good friend though. Always on the move and would never call.
02:20I miss you.
02:21I miss you too.
02:22I miss you too.
02:23But hey, I'll make new ones on the road, I thought.
02:30One day, however, it dawns on you.
02:33This has become your job. You have to go out and make these pictures.
02:37Yeah, you have a boss. It's called a client.
02:39The breezy innocence is all but gone.
02:42But what wakes you up at night is the pressure to stay relevant.
02:48You constantly have to reinvent yourself and find new ways to tell stories.
02:54Self-doubt and vulnerability become your best friends.
03:01The biggest realization you can make is that it's all cyclical.
03:04There's always highs and lows. Valleys and peaks.
03:07As adventure photographers, our work is defined by capturing real, raw moments
03:25where humanity is faced against nature's most savage elements.
03:28We often have to be in the middle of the action.
03:47The moments are fleeting. The light is rarely perfect.
03:53And the conditions are harsh.
03:54When the elements all align in our favor though,
03:58we strike gold and our work is celebrated.
04:03It is the pursuit of these rare moments that drive us.
04:06We don't measure our growth by looking at the times we nail it.
04:10Failure is progress.
04:14That personal growth is addictive.
04:17Nothing provides it like adventure photography.
04:20So despite the struggles, we keep pushing.
04:25Onwards towards the summit.
04:28Because a life that's full of adventure is the only one you want to live.
04:32You want to live.
04:33You want to live.
04:34You want to live.
04:35To be continued...
