00:00Good morning, everybody. Welcome to the channel. My name is Logan, aka the Army Vet Trucker.
00:08If it's your first time here to the channel, I'm an extra bored line haul truck driver for a company
00:12called ABF Freight. Today, we are in Dallas, Texas, and we are heading up to Sherman first,
00:21and then after we get done with Sherman, we're going to come back down to Dallas,
00:24and then... I was trying to make that light, but I guess we'll catch the next one. It's all right.
00:33Like I was saying, we... Shoot, now I'm going to block this guy.
00:39Busy day here. But yeah, we're going up to Sherman, back down to Dallas,
00:42and then we're going to lay down in Amarillo once we're done for the day.
00:49And... Let's see what we're going to do here. Might be able to go right on red.
00:54Yeah. Looks like we've got it.
01:05But, um... Make sure that turns over to driving. Should do it by itself.
01:11But, um, like I said, we're getting down to... Over to Amarillo, lay down there,
01:17and that'll be where we call it quits for the day.
01:19We are running... There it goes.
01:21We're running nice and behind today. We, uh, it's, uh, 11.26 a.m. here in Dallas,
01:30and we, uh, got called at the 9 a.m.? No, we got called at the 6 a.m. call block to leave at 9,
01:36or at least be here at 9, and, uh, it's been a long day, and it hasn't even barely started yet.
01:43So, uh, we... I left the house, Fort Worth, at... Shoot, what was it? Probably... I had to be here at 9,
01:50so I think I left by 8, probably 8.10 at the latest.
01:54And, uh, I was heading this way, and it was saying it was going to take 45 minutes, a little bit slower,
02:00being, you know, a weekday morning, and then I guess there was an accident on the way that,
02:04you know, it... I was in the express lane, and for you guys that are around... from around the DFW area,
02:09then you probably know the express lanes are, uh, you know, it's like a... we would call in the army a fatal funnel.
02:15You know, you kind of get stuck in there, and if there's any issue at all, you're stuck.
02:20You can't go anywhere. You know, you're trapped on all sides.
02:22You know, it's just... or towards Dallas on 183, it's just one lane with two concrete walls on both sides.
02:29So that's... that's what happened. There was a wreck there in the lane,
02:32and they couldn't bypass traffic to go any other way besides just right through it.
02:37So, had to just sit there and wait and suck it up.
02:40So that's what I did. Just sat there and waited, and we got delayed us about 30 minutes,
02:45so I didn't get to the terminal until, like, 9.30 or so, and then got to the terminal,
02:50and I think this... this trip, man, probably this... or this set they had ready for me on the ready line,
02:55this is probably the most issues I've found in a pre-trip, you know,
02:59and it wasn't anything particularly major. You know, I needed to get new wiper blades.
03:03There was a few side markers, you know, it was just a long list of minor things,
03:08as opposed to just a few major things, and one of the minor things wound up turning into a major thing.
03:14It was an ABS issue with the trailers. You know, it seems like it's endless with these things,
03:18just always non-stop ABS issues with these trailers.
03:23But, you know, he was troubleshooting and troubleshooting and troubleshooting,
03:27and, you know, he was determined to get it solved,
03:29and he found a cut wire up near the front of the pup, you know, just...
03:34you know, it was hidden, you know, it still had its rubber sheathing on it and everything,
03:38and it had just gotten snipped or something, maybe a blowout had caused it to get worn or something,
03:46I don't know, but he got it fixed, and we were there for about an hour and a half in the shop,
03:51so now it's 11.30, just now leaving, showtime at 9,
03:55but I haven't heard a peep from dispatch, and I even got time critical freight today,
03:59so, you know, that just goes to show you, you know, they, you know,
04:03unless you're goofing off, you know, or, you know, wasting company time,
04:06then, you know, they're gonna respect your privacy and respect that you're working in the best interest of the company, so...
04:14But with all that being said, guys, I'm, you know, it looks like we're...
04:17I took a look at the map before we're heading out.
04:19It looks like it's late enough in the morning now to where the traffic's not too bad,
04:22getting out of, through downtown Dallas, so we're gonna, we're gonna get out here on the, um,
04:29what is this, uh, 35, I believe, yeah, 35, heading into downtown Dallas, and then, um,
04:38we'll, uh, get through downtown Dallas and get on 75, heading north towards Sherman,
04:45we'll get up there real quick, drop this set, hook to a set of empties,
04:49and then we'll be coming back down to Dallas, and then over to Amarillo.
04:53But, like I said, with all that being said, guys, I'll catch y'all here in a little bit.
06:57All righty, guys, just like that, here we are in Sherman, nice little barn they got here,
07:06seems like they're always pretty busy, um, come here pretty late at night sometimes, and
07:11they're hard at work, but, uh, anyways, already went inside, punched the clock and everything,
07:17and, uh, found out that our long day is just gonna get a little bit longer here, so,
07:21no big deal, we're just gonna drop these loaded trailers off here, and then we gotta string
07:25up a set of empties to take back down to Dallas, and I'm probably just gonna use those last
07:29two, that's their empties right there, they got three available, and I'm gonna take those
07:33last two that they got there, so, first things first, I already got everything all taken care
07:40of in here, arrived ourself, so we're gonna get out here and drop this set.
07:45All right.
07:59All right.
08:00All right.
08:16We're good.
08:37All righty.
08:41I'm gonna get over here and grab a gear real quick.
08:49Yeah, I was just here yesterday, I didn't film any of it, but, uh, doing about the same
08:56run today that I did yesterday, but just backwards, um, when I did it yesterday, I was waking up
09:06in Amarillo, and, uh, went back to Dallas first, and then from Dallas, came up here, and then
09:15back to Dallas, but yesterday, I had loaded trailers out of here, so...
09:19All righty.
09:21I'm just gonna grab this one right here, it's the easiest one, they got a couple old ones
09:32here.
09:33If ever I come to a place and I see a decently new one, I'll try to grab it, but these are
09:37both about the same.
09:50Yep.
09:55Okay.
09:55Uma.
09:58Yeah.
09:59Yeah.
10:00Yeah.
10:01Uh.
10:02Yeah.
10:04Yeah.
10:07Yeah.
10:08Yeah.
10:10Alright, I'm going to be good for now.
10:40Alright, let's go get this thing staged over where it needs to be.
10:58See if I can't get this right.
11:03Alright, so it needs to come further driver.
11:10Not much though.
11:14A little bit more, and then back straight.
11:21Just like that, huh?
11:34That's pretty good, huh?
11:35What do you guys think?
11:37First try.
11:38Sure I have enough space to roll it back about half a foot.
11:43Looks like I'm good.
11:51Ought to be good.
12:10Yeah, when it's on grass and rough surfaces like this, you usually don't really have to worry about it too much.
12:14It's mainly whenever you're on smooth surface like pavement, and it's not level.
12:21Because if you're in a situation like that, then you're definitely going to want to figure something out to put behind your tire.
12:33Alrighty.
12:39I'm cheating now using my back window.
12:42I've been leaving my curtain up, so I should use the mirrors, but I figured I'd take it down for this just to get it done a little quicker.
12:59Looks good.
13:04Once I got this all hooked up, I'll drop my glove right there, that little trick I showed you guys in a previous video.
13:17Alrighty.
13:21Looks like the handle's sheared off.
13:26Somebody's got a nice little zip tie there for us.
13:29Looks good.
13:33Looks good.
13:36Oop.
13:37Hup.
13:43Hup.
13:44Hup.
13:46Hup.
13:47Hup.
13:52all right abs light oh it went off okay cool
14:03oh my glove trick almost forgot
14:22there we go
14:52a bit too crooked here you come further driver but then you get back straight
15:12before it's try that again
15:15try to do as much adjusting as i can while i can still see you know
15:23that ought to be pretty good
15:37maybe a little bit further driver
15:41we'll see how that looks that should be all right
15:51i mean my gloves kind of in the way i might have to
15:56move it over a little bit
15:57that's probably going to be a little bit too far passenger side
16:03yeah i'm going to bring it over about a little bit more driver
16:10move my glove over a little bit i got it too close
16:13all right let's try that again get a little bit closer driver's side
16:20oh yeah there we go
16:28that ought to be good this time
16:47we came a little bit further back
16:56yeah that ought to figure it out
16:59we'll see how it works if we have to redo it we'll redo it
17:03come up a little bit
17:05that'll work
17:08gotta get some momentum going here
17:12let's go
17:27It couldn't be too easy.
17:45Let's make sure we get a good hook before we raise that all the way.
17:56I'm kind of suspect just the way today's going, you know.
18:12It's kind of at an angle now.
18:13I try to remember they taught me in school.
18:19So if you've got a gear on the back of your pup, then from what I understand, when you're
18:28back in a single trailer and your hands on the bottom of the wheel like that, you point
18:33the direction that you want the trailer to go.
18:35So if you want it to go left, you go left with your hand at the bottom.
18:39If you want it to go right, you go right.
18:41But when there's a gear back there, you do the opposite.
18:45So I need that gear to go towards the passenger side, to my right.
18:51So if the opposite rule applies, then I'm going to push the steering wheel with the bottom
18:57of my hand to the left.
18:59We'll see if that does anything at all.
19:08Shoot.
19:09Ha!
19:10That was a lucky one, I think.
19:17We'll just chalk that one up to...
19:20That was definitely experience, that one, guys.
19:23Don't let me deceive you.
19:25Pfft.
19:26Luck.
19:27I'm just a professional.
19:28That's all that is.
19:30Right?
19:31Alrighty.
19:32So I'm just getting this thing all hooked up.
19:39That ought to work.
19:43Alright, let's get this gear up the rest of the way.
20:04There it is.
20:07Like that.
20:08Chains on, so this one's going to go like that.
20:18This one will go like that.
20:23Alrighty.
20:24Check.
20:25I already checked these trailers.
20:26Both of them are indeed empties.
20:29You know, sneaky freight hiding in there.
20:36Let's see.
20:47Close our air valve.
20:50And here.
20:55I'm ready.
20:59There's that.
21:00Let's get some air to this thing and check all the tires.
21:05there's a light breeze here today today guys I hope it's not as bad as that one
21:10day all right let's get some air out to these guys check the leaks all our lights
21:18are good trailer tires go ABS light on the gear turn the four ways on
21:35alrighty four ways brake lights clearance lights tires good lights are good license
21:49plate light jaws are good got both mud flaps I read y'all's comments by the way
21:54in the last video I was asking about those mud flaps on those converter dollies
22:00you guys answered my question brake lights turn signals no air leaks clearance
22:09lights locked mud flaps yeah you guys told me as long as the rearmost axle so
22:18this one here on our consist as long as it has mud flaps are good even the tractor
22:23doesn't need to have mud flaps which is I guess makes sense some of the guys that
22:28contract freight these doubles sometimes they will show up with twin rear screw
22:38sleeper trucks if you guys ever see our doubles going down the highway behind a
22:45truck that's not ABF that just means it's contract freight you know freight they've
22:52passed on because there wasn't enough ABF drivers available or whatever other
22:56reason so that's what that means whenever you see that just they pass the freight on
23:05but sometimes those guys their sleepers tandem rear screws they'll take off
23:09their mud flaps so they don't rip them off because these doubles the landing gear
23:13farther forward so it doesn't you know the weight when there's a forklift in there
23:17you know but uh downside of that is if you take a turn too sharp with twin rear
23:22screws and you know it's a perfect storm you don't have your fifth wheel sled all the
23:25way back then kiss your mud flaps goodbye so anyways guys that's all said and
23:30done I'm gonna head back into the office here get the paperwork done and then I'm
23:35gonna be heading back down to Dallas so I'll catch up with y'all here in a little
23:37bit
25:37All righty. Welcome back. Welcome back. Here we are back in Dallas. We just got all swapped out. Again, like I've said in the past, I don't really record too much what goes on here in Dallas just to respect the privacy of our fellow employees.
25:52But been here a little bit. Got all swapped out. Went in the shop. Had a couple of air leaks. And then we're having driver appreciation week this week.
26:22But as ABF does to appreciate their drivers and, you know, some terminals with ABF struggle a little bit too. But Dallas, we got a good team here in Dallas.
26:32And I'm happy to work here. And let's just say that. But anyways, we're going to head out here heading back up to, well, we're heading back up to Amarillo because I was just up there a couple days ago.
26:42But we're going to get up out of here. It looks like that's got us taken right here. I would normally take a left here. But excuse me.
26:54Um, the ramp to go from Loop 12 North to 183 West is closed. The ramp is, it's all jacked up. I mean, it might be open now, but they've been doing all sorts of construction over there.
27:09So I'm just going to go right first and we'll circle back. And we're, it's right in the peak of the afternoon. So you already know where you're going to find me. I'll be in the express lane.
27:22But, uh, anyways, guys, I think I've talked enough today. So, uh, it's been a little bit of a long day, but it's starting to go more to plan.
27:31And this is the easy part now. I just got to drive going to Amarillo and then get there and hit the bed.
27:39And I'm not sure. I'll have to look back at my videos. I think that I've already shown you guys the hotel that we stay at in Amarillo, but I'm not sure.
27:47Like I said, I'll double check, but if not, I'll show you all the hotel. If I have already, then I'll just call it at the terminal in, in, uh, Amarillo.
27:55But like I said, we'll catch you later once, or if something crazy happens, I'll chime back in. But if not, I'll see y'all in Amarillo.
28:02I'll see you later.
28:32I'll see you later.
29:02I'll see you later.
33:02Anyways, guys, I'm going to hit the bed, and I'll catch y'all in the next one.
