00:00I don't know how I didn't notice this before in the Batman trilogy.
00:03You know Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler?
00:05He saw Bruce lose his parents at a young age, and from there, he dedicated himself to the boy.
00:09Alfred is the only person who truly seems to care about Bruce, who will always be there for him no matter what happens.
00:14With all the tragedies and struggles his boss has faced, Alfred plays the role of not letting Bruce give up on this world.
00:21Alfred fears Bruce will end his life alone, that he will stop living and isolate himself from a world that hurt him so much.
00:27And what I realized is that Alfred fears this so much because he doesn't want to see Bruce go through the same thing he did.
00:31I say this because when Bruce lost his parents, Alfred chose to dedicate his life to taking care of him.
00:36He forgot about everything else.
00:37He gave up his own life.
00:39This becomes clear after this scene, where Alfred talks about his vacation, alone in a restaurant, with no wife, no friends, no children or grandchildren, and in that solitude, he fantasizes about seeing Bruce at another table with someone, a family.
00:49That scene made me think that maybe the films don't show anything about Alfred's personal life simply because it doesn't exist.
00:54He's someone who watched life go by, living for something that wasn't himself.
00:58And although in this case it's a noble cause, he doesn't want to see the person he cares about most go through the same thing.
