00:00:00the world within the last few years has become more and more aware of the population explosion
00:00:16we think of it in terms of human beings of how many will be able to survive on earth will they
00:00:22have enough clean air to breathe or any air for that matter will there be enough room to live in
00:00:27and enough food to feed an ever-increasing number of mouths nature up until now has maintained a
00:00:33carefully planned balance but conditions often change this pattern and tip scales against the plan
00:00:39this imbalance also takes place in the animal world this film which our researchers have gathered
00:00:44together was shot in australia in 1954 where a plague of rabbits has been and still is a threat
00:00:51rabbits so numerous that they threaten man's existence by devouring his crops killing animals
00:00:56and destroying property has man the right to defend himself against an enemy that threatens
00:01:02his life and property if so how by poison by traps and in so doing what does he do to the rest of the
00:01:10animal and insect life necessary to his existence rabbits which seem so cuddly as pets can become a
00:01:16menace they were first shipped to australia hoping they'd be a valuable addition to the food supply
00:01:22instead they proved to be a disaster rabbit drives and roundups have been called barbarous and cruel but
00:01:29some way must be found to curb their invasion australia is not the only place to have been overrun
00:01:35by rabbits all over the american west there have been similar outbreaks and the same battle lines have
00:01:40been drawn science is doing all it can to help control this population explosion but when this effort
00:01:47fails nature's balance gets out of hand right now a new plague of rabbits has broken out in the southwest
00:01:57as shown in these color films just received from our news team in arizona it's difficult to conceive
00:02:03that such an innocent furry rabbit scientifically known as lepas can be so destructive and as they
00:02:10multiply so does their demand for food in greece can this population explosion be contained

00:05:06Where's Ranger, Dad?
00:05:08Stepping a rabbit hole, son. Broke his leg. I had to shoot him.
00:05:12Hey, Brank, take the truck and go straight out about a mile and a half and pick up my saddle, will you?
00:05:15Mildred?
00:05:21Get me President Elgin Clark at the college in Ajo.
00:05:25What?
00:05:27I'm sorry I snapped at you, but I got me a feud going on here. Yeah, Elgin Clark.
00:05:34I'll tell you, Elgin, these rabbits are eating me out of house and home.
00:05:39Well, I've arranged to have Professor Taylor meet us in my office.
00:05:43Now, wait a minute. Not that guy.
00:05:45Why not? He's the one that got rid of your coyotes for you.
00:05:48Yeah, well, he's just a little bit too good.
00:05:49I haven't heard a coyote yapping around there for over a year.
00:05:52Now, that's terrific news for the rabbits, but it's lousy for me.
00:05:56I mean, there's a balance to these things, Elgin. It's tricky.
00:05:59Yeah, I know it is.
00:06:01Look, I got a thought.
00:06:02There's a young couple here from the East on an exchange program.
00:06:04The name's Bennett, and they're looking for new ways to control insects without killing everything else at the same time.
00:06:09I have rabbits, not bugs.
00:06:11There's nothing left for a bug to live on.
00:06:14You trust me, Cole.
00:06:16They won't go around killing everything in sight.
00:06:18I'll get up there to see them right away.
00:06:22They sure stirred up a lot of bats just for these few specimens.
00:06:27You get it?
00:06:28Yeah.
00:06:30There we go.
00:06:31Okay.
00:06:32Now, we got this one.
00:06:40Okay, honey, I think we got enough.
00:06:41Oh, all right.
00:06:43Go out of here.
00:06:44Yeah.
00:06:49Cute little guy, huh?
00:06:51Oh, there you go.
00:06:52Yeah, I think I'll put him right in there.
00:06:55Okay.
00:06:55There we are.
00:07:03What are you doing that for, Daddy?
00:07:06I'm trying to record their sound.
00:07:08Now, shush.
00:07:13Here comes Mr. Clark.
00:07:14So, why don't you girls go down and meet him, hmm?
00:07:16Okay, okay.
00:07:17Our daughter expresses a precocious interest in zoology, and all you can say is, shh.
00:07:32Actually, your father was playing the orature from hair.
00:07:34You know how bats love hair.
00:07:36Now, you go play, sweetheart.
00:07:37Hi, Uncle Algin.
00:07:38Hi, Amanda.
00:07:40How are you, Jerry?
00:07:41Fine.
00:07:42How are you?
00:07:42Fine, thank you.
00:07:44Oh, good morning, Roy.
00:07:45Shh.
00:07:45Do you hear it?
00:07:59That's the cry of fear.
00:08:00Well, if we can just chase them away with that sound of fear, we'll be able to control their
00:08:09entire flight.
00:08:11Say, what do you plan to do with them then?
00:08:13By introducing them into areas infected with mosquitoes, they'll be able to do the same
00:08:18job that DDT does, without the side effects.
00:08:21I see.
00:08:22Well, that brings me to a favor, Ray.
00:08:25Cole Hillman, he's a rancher about 50 miles north of here.
00:08:29He'd rather put A&M on the map, that is, at least in football back in the 40s.
00:08:33And he does some scouting and fundraising for us.
00:08:36Well, he's really got a problem.
00:08:37A rabbit explosion.
00:08:39Now, he's fighting like the devil to keep him out of his irrigated land.
00:08:42But they've already eaten the range right out from under his cattle.
00:08:47Rabbits aren't exactly Roy's bag.
00:08:50Cole Hillman's on your side, Roy.
00:08:52He's trying to avoid poison.
00:08:54Well, good for him.
00:08:55But once those rabbits spread out, the other ranchers will bomb this whole country with cyanide.
00:09:01Uh-oh.
00:09:02All right, then.
00:09:04We'd better take a run up there this weekend.
00:09:06I'd rather you did it today.
00:09:37out here in the southwest they're called silver loggers these are all different there's a fella
00:09:49that lives south of here about 10 miles he used to raise domestic rabbits but he had a fire and a
00:09:55couple of hundred of them got away so these are mongols they have plagues of rabbits down in new
00:10:02zealand and australia now how'd they get rid of those they've used poison for one thing but the
00:10:09poison killed the birds and that resulted in the plague of grasshoppers just as bad as the rabbits
00:10:13if i sprayed poison i'd have to pull my cattle off the range and i'd have to dump them on the market
00:10:19at the worst time of the year might be another way to whip this problem cole how hormones which would
00:10:26interrupt their breeding cycle or a disease that would affect only the rabbits how long can you
00:10:32hold out before using the cyanide oh six or eight weeks until a young one show up i'll tell you what
00:10:37i'd like to do i'd like to get about a dozen of these adults and run some tests that's simple
00:10:44just open the back of your camper and i'll hop right in can i have these you bet
00:10:56i wish i had my own pony my dad gave them to me he can ride it sometime if he wants to
00:11:03i'd like that ow what happened a rabbit bit me that's what happened you don't have to punch any
00:11:12holes in that can as far as i'm concerned you better have that finger looked at a bite of the leapers
00:11:17that's a latin word for rabbit can be dangerous well dr dukerson i certainly appreciate your interest
00:11:23in this particular problem well i'm interested in your experiment keep me posted i certainly will
00:11:28oh poor thing
00:11:33mommy what then what's a control group well they get the same care as the others but they don't get any
00:11:41of the medicines roy step aside darling what's the matter with it mommy well we were trying to make
00:12:00jack a little more like jill and jill a little more like jack so they wouldn't keep having such large
00:12:05families simply can't shoot them full of hormones without setting their nervous system in the shock
00:12:13it can mean months developing the right lab procedure
00:12:17well nothing seems to work
00:12:29on the other hand here's something i know they've never been exposed to before
00:12:32dr dirksen from the public health department sent it over this morning
00:12:38would you give me a clean rabbit oh yeah i wish i knew what the effects of this serum would be
00:12:45let's hope it works not that one mommy it's my favorite apparently this is a villain
00:12:52and certain birth defects causes hereditary changes will it transmit to other rabbits well i should hope so
00:13:01difficult to inject 10 to 15 000 wild rabbits right now this substance if we could affect the blood of 50 rabbits
00:13:11it wouldn't take long for this change to take place in the entire population
00:13:15the vaccine
00:13:23hello cole no not yet i'm sorry just a minute jerry
00:13:30yes cool we're trying a new serum we hope to inject 50 or so rabbits for works on them
00:13:43it wouldn't take long before it would infect thousands yeah sure yeah says the rabbits are
00:13:50getting meaner and hungrier we could use another dozen here he's got them ready to go would you
00:13:56mind picking them up for me of course not thanks honey you see cool we have to keep a tight control
00:14:03on these test rabbits heaven help us if any of them should get away before we know the effects
00:14:08of this new serum sure cool jerry will be by this afternoon fine cool i'll talk to you later
00:14:19i'll take amanda with me good amanda would you please leave those rabbits alone you said i could
00:14:30have one can i before you kill them one from the control group well all right she seems to be the
00:14:39only one that gets along with them thank you daddy rub his foot while you're at it honey and see what
00:14:45kind of luck that brings us as a matter of fact rub all four of them
00:14:50yeah
00:14:54damn rabbit
00:14:55pardon me ma'am
00:14:57we're not there getting forced to see you later
00:15:00there's a day
00:15:01romio's not a bad rabbit
00:15:08i don't care you get him out of here i won't be your friend
00:15:11i won't do it
00:15:12get those darn rabbits killed my chickens
00:15:15i'm sorry amanda
00:15:21don't tell my mommy you ran away
00:15:25okay
00:15:26you can say i'm keeping it for you come on
00:15:29okay
00:15:30since the injection this rabbit has increased in size
00:15:33if it keeps up we'll have to get larger cages
00:15:35one more week and these won't be babies anymore
00:15:38neither were the ones of a cold humans the young will be coming out of their holes any day and starting their new generation
00:15:45well i guess you ought to call cole
00:15:48if he's going to poison those fields he'd better do it now
00:15:50i'm going to warn him
00:15:52if he poisons the rabbits he's going to kill off all the other animals
00:15:56and it won't be long he'll have nothing left but unredeemable wasteland
00:15:59well
00:16:02if it don't work cole
00:16:15i swear i'll send my planes over your land
00:16:18this is the place to spray
00:16:20the place to stop them
00:16:21in two months from now
00:16:23everything north of here will be eaten out
00:16:25in the meantime there'll be a burned out strip nearly a mile wide
00:16:29between my property and everything south there won't be a bush
00:16:33a blade of grass
00:16:34or a drop of water
00:16:36all right frank when you and judd are
00:16:39i still think poisoning's the better way to do it
00:16:42yeah well say thank you instead
00:16:44cole here is sacrificing his land to starve him out natural
00:16:47any help you need replanting or anything call on me

00:16:53your hope it worked
00:17:16oh roy this was the uh
00:17:43first rangeland to get eaten clean
00:17:45so i figured it might be the first one to come back
00:17:49instinctively that's what they do
00:17:51i'll come right back here
00:17:53roy

00:18:12it's got a couple of cow tracks in it
00:18:15the size of that inference
00:18:18the depth of it i'd say it was
00:18:20weighed maybe 100 150 pounds
00:18:22could it be a mountain land
00:18:24well it could be but we haven't had any of those around here in a long time

00:20:58Daddy!
00:21:03Daddy!
00:21:08Daddy! Daddy!
00:21:13Doctor?
00:21:15She'll be all right. Just a case of my own shock.
00:21:18Just let her rest.
00:21:19Are you sure?
00:21:20I'm sure.
00:21:21But if anything new develops, please call me.
00:21:26Right.
00:21:28Thank you for coming over, Doctor.
00:21:30Good night, Mr. Bennett.
00:21:31Good night.
00:21:32You were in the miner's shack when you heard her screams?
00:21:35Yes, sir.
00:21:37Never mind.
00:21:38I ran out and got her.
00:21:40She was just coming out of the mine shaft.
00:21:42You know, bloody murder.
00:21:44Did you see anything?
00:21:46Anything at all?
00:21:47I can't say I did, Mr. Bennett.
00:21:48Although, there might have been something moving around just inside the shaft.
00:21:55I couldn't be sure.
00:21:56Everything happened too fast.
00:21:58Well, something scared her half to death.
00:22:01She just didn't imagine it.
00:22:02Amanda's too sensible.
00:22:04Daddy! Daddy!
00:22:06Daddy!
00:22:09Everything's going to be all right, honey.
00:22:10Oh, my poor baby.
00:22:11I'm going to talk to Dr. Dirksen.
00:22:14Oh, my poor baby.
00:22:14I'm going to talk to Dr. Dirksen.
00:22:14I'm going to talk to Dr. Dirksen.
00:22:41I'm going to talk to Dr. Dirksen.
00:22:43I'm going to talk to Dr. Dirksen.
00:22:44Thank you very much.
00:25:08Well, now, what's so urgent?
00:25:10Over there, sir.
00:26:26Smallest of objects.
00:26:28One can often find the world of discovery.
00:26:29A microscopic view of the surface of a blunt weapon
00:26:30can lead to the arrest of a man halfway around the world.
00:26:32Mr. Leopold, where do those tin cans lead us?
00:26:35Well, for one thing,
00:26:38they were not open with an ax.
00:26:39Something punctured the metal, not too fast, but with great strength.
00:26:44The crates on the truck weren't broken either. They've been gnawed.
00:26:49What?
00:26:50Gnawed, chewed, bitten.
00:26:52In addition, traces of dried saliva were found on the cans, the boxes, and the victims.
00:27:04So, what have we got here? Vampires?
00:27:06Possibly.
00:27:08Well, frankly, Sheriff, off the top of my head,
00:27:11the only thing that could have caused this sort of destruction
00:27:14would have been a saber-toothed tiger.
00:27:17As a matter of fact, a lot of them.
00:27:20Sheriff Cody, come in. This is Officer Hightower.
00:27:23I'm at the picnic grounds three miles east of the Hillman Ranch.
00:27:27I've never seen anything like this before.
00:27:30There's a family of four here.
00:27:32A man, a woman, and two children horribly mutilated.
00:27:35I'm standing by until the coroner arrives.
00:27:38Over.
00:27:39I've studied abnormalities and birth defects all my life.
00:27:44It's come pretty close to home for me.
00:27:45I see them all the time.
00:27:46Naturally, I like to believe they don't exist.
00:27:48Unfortunately, they do.
00:27:49But, Doctor, rabbits as big and as ferocious as wolves, it is inconceivable.
00:27:56The genetic code of every living thing is contained in each cell of that organism.
00:28:03Now, assuming inadvertently we introduce defective cells into that one rabbit,
00:28:07it's conceivable that we could have created the seeds for a mutated species.
00:28:14Amanda saw huge rabbits.
00:28:16It's just too hard to believe, and I don't think I'll be able to, not until I've seen one.
00:28:20All we have to go on is what Amanda had to say in that track that was trampled all over with.
00:28:39Well, the only thing we can do is gather our group together.
00:28:43Take another look around that area tomorrow.
00:28:45What about Sheriff Cody? Shouldn't we bring him along?
00:28:48I don't agree, Jerry. I don't think so.
00:28:49Can you imagine the kind of sensational publicity they would bring down on the university if it became generally known?
00:28:54I don't think we should tell anybody until we know what the score is.
00:28:57I think you're right.
00:28:58Honey, you call up Hillman.
00:29:00Tell him to expect us in the morning.
00:29:02Have him get ready some poison feed, cyanide, dynamite, anything else you can think of.
00:29:06Okay.
00:29:07And have him get a hold of Judd and Frank. They may as well go along with us tomorrow.
00:29:11Okay.
00:29:12I don't suppose there's a chance that you can bring back one of those rabbits alive.
00:29:36Let me go.
00:29:37Let me go.
00:29:38Let me go.
00:29:39This is from the
00:29:40TVC, in the
00:30:06They certainly weren't made by human beings.
00:30:13How far in does it go?
00:30:15Oh, about two miles due north of the opening of the tunnel here.
00:30:20Any other way into it?
00:30:22Well, there's a vertical shaft at the other end, but it's been closed up for years.
00:30:28Elton, why don't you and Frank get half the dynamite and take a look up above?
00:30:32See if there are any other holes.
00:30:33Right.
00:30:36Judge, you run the hoses for the gas
00:31:06inside the tunnel, and I'll set the charges.
00:31:18Hello, Jerry.
00:31:20Jerry, Elgin here.
00:31:22Yes, Elgin, over.
00:31:24I'm up on top.
00:31:25Let me speak to Roy, over.
00:31:27Just a minute.
00:31:35Yes, Elgin, what'd you find?
00:31:36There are three holes here.
00:31:39Look around and make sure there aren't any others.
00:31:41There are three holes here, right.
00:31:48Hold on just a second, Roy.
00:31:49Hold on just a second, Roy.
00:31:49Let's go.
00:31:50Oh, my God.
00:31:50It's really cold.
00:31:50I'm up on top.
00:31:51There are four holes here.
00:31:51Well, that's a third hole here.
00:31:52Yes, I think a third hole, then.
00:31:52I can't do it.
00:31:53Oh, boy.
00:31:53Listen.
00:31:54Oh, boy.
00:31:54I don't think one.
00:31:54I can't do it anymore.
00:31:55Oh, boy.
00:31:55Okay.
00:31:56Run!
00:31:56Hold on.
00:31:56Oh, boy.
00:31:57Hey, I can't do it anymore.
00:31:57I've got to go.
00:31:57Hey, I've got to school.
00:31:58Oh, boy.
00:32:11Oh, boy.
00:32:12No, boy.
00:32:13Oh, boy.
00:32:13Oh, boy.
00:32:14Oh, boy.
00:32:14Oh, boy.
00:32:14Oh, boy.
00:32:16Oh, boy.
00:32:17Oh, boy.
00:32:17Listen.
00:32:35You hear that?
00:32:41We sure do.
00:32:44Set your dynamite.
00:32:45We'll let you know when we're ready down here.
00:32:49We'll set off the charges at the same time.
00:32:55We've got our hands off.
00:32:56We can't plug these up quick enough for me.
00:32:59Well, we've got three holes to blow.
00:33:02You think we've got enough dynamite to do it?
00:33:04Yeah, we'll make it.
00:33:05While you're setting up, I'll take a look around and see if there are any more.
00:33:08Let me take this.
00:33:09Hey, I'm going in there.
00:33:15You can't do that.
00:33:17I haven't got a choice.
00:33:18But why?
00:33:18We're going to blow it up right now.
00:33:20Whatever's back in there is a mystery.
00:33:22If we cave it in, we'll never know.
00:33:24I'm going to try to pull one of them out so I can analyze its blood and check its cells.
00:33:29If I can't do that, at least I'll take a picture of it.
00:33:32Wait a minute.
00:33:34Give me the rifle.
00:33:35Okay, let's go.
00:33:36See you on the radio to Elgin and tell them we're going in there.
00:33:54Elgin, come in, Elgin.
00:34:24That seems to be the lot of them.
00:34:42You about ready?
00:34:43Yeah, just give me a couple more minutes.
00:34:46Oh, uh, this is Bennett called.
00:34:48Oh?
00:34:49Bennett and Hillman have gone into the mine.
00:34:52Oh, no.
00:34:54Hello, Jerry.
00:35:05Come in.
00:35:06Come in, Jerry.
00:35:08This is Elgin.
00:35:09Yes, over.
00:35:10Look, we've got three holes about to set the dynamite.
00:35:13Have they come out of there yet?
00:35:14Over.
00:35:16No, not yet.
00:35:17I hope it's soon.
00:35:18We must be in a half a mile by now.
00:35:30And they seem to be moving away from us.
00:35:32They should be coming out any minute.
00:35:58Over.
00:35:59I'll be standing by.
00:36:00How many tunnels do you suppose they're by?
00:36:24We should have marked our way in case we have to get out in a hurry.
00:36:30Sounds like they're right around that corner.
00:36:35Don't you?
00:36:37The whole place might come down.
00:37:00They're as big as wolves.
00:37:02They look just as vicious.
00:37:07Nobody will believe this.
00:37:09Could this have been caused by the serum you injected in that one rabbit?
00:37:13I'm sure of it. It only takes one.
00:37:16There are probably thousands of them. This must be their breeding ground.
00:37:19Let's get the hell out of here.
00:37:28Left or right?
00:37:32Right.
00:37:33I got the detonator sent. I'm ready to release the gas as soon as they come out.
00:37:46Okay.
00:38:03Oh!
00:38:09Oh!
00:38:13Oh!
00:38:14Oh!
00:38:15Let's go.
00:38:45Let's go.
00:39:15Let's go.
00:39:17Judd.
00:39:19Judd, now calm down.
00:39:21Calm down.
00:39:22He's gone.
00:39:23The rabbit's gone.
00:39:27Ma'am, we gotta get out of here.
00:39:32They ain't coming out of that mine alive.
00:39:35Oh, yes, they are.
00:39:37Oh, yes.
00:39:38And we're not going anywhere.
00:39:39Oh, my God.
00:39:43Oh, my God.
00:39:45Oh, my God.
00:39:47Oh, my God.

00:40:28Oh, Roy, how dry, thank God.
00:40:58How in the world was that possible?
00:41:12Well, you heard what Dirksen said.
00:41:14What's his position on releasing these photographs?
00:41:16The same as mine and Jerry's.
00:41:17We feel that the facts have to be made public.
00:41:20Now, if you want, I'll tell them it was an unauthorized experiment.
00:41:23No way, Roy. I got you into this. That wouldn't be right.
00:41:26I think we have to bring Sheriff Cody into this now.
00:41:29We'll go out to the mine in the morning, check, make sure we got rid of all of them.
00:41:34We'll take Sheriff Cody with us.
00:41:36I'll get in touch with him now.
00:41:38Fine.
00:41:41Well, honey, when the story breaks, we'll have newspaper men from all over.
00:41:46I think that you and Amanda ought to go someplace where they won't hound you to death.
00:41:52You're right. Amanda's been through enough.
00:41:54I suppose we drive up to Wooddale and stay at the lodge and you join us as soon as you can.
00:42:02Good. Good idea.
00:42:06I love you very much.
00:42:07And if we have to, I'll even be happy to go and work with you and...
00:42:12Timbuktu.
00:42:13I love you.
00:42:24Bye.
00:42:30Bye.
00:42:38Bye!
00:42:39Bye!
00:42:40Bye.
00:42:41I don't know.
00:43:11I don't know.
00:43:41I don't know.
00:44:11Get Jackie up and get them dressed into something warm, and you too, all right?
00:44:22Let's hurry.
00:44:52Easy, easy.
00:45:03Pull, pull, pull.
00:45:05Oh, pull.
00:45:06Now, move.
00:45:07What's going on?
00:45:11What's going on?
00:45:13Sure, sure.
00:45:25Oh, boy. Easy. Easy.
00:45:28Watch out there, Frank.
00:45:30Shut. Take it easy.
00:45:41No, no, no.
00:46:11Get it.
00:46:30Jen!
00:46:33Mike's going to stop you, Mr. Hillman.
00:46:36Not after what happened today.
00:46:41So, let's go.
00:47:11Dorothy, you and Jackie get in that cellar and stay there.
00:47:32Frank, don't lock me out. I'm going to make a phone call.
00:47:35Right.
00:47:41Mildred. Now, now, listen closely.
00:48:01Mildred?
00:48:02Mildred?
00:48:03Mr. Hillman?
00:48:04Mildred?
00:48:06Mildred!
00:48:07Mildred?
00:48:19Mildred?
00:48:24Mildred?

00:51:58Oh, my God.
00:52:06Oh, my God.
00:52:08Oh, my God.
00:55:46And don't worry, we'll be in before dark.
00:55:48You call me about 6 o'clock from Wooddale, hmm?
00:55:50Mm-hmm.
00:55:51I'll either be here or over at Sheriff Cody's.
00:55:53Okay.
00:55:54Okay.
00:55:54Bye, Daddy.
00:55:55Bye, honey.
00:55:57See you.
00:55:57See you later.
00:56:05See you later.
00:56:07See you later.
00:56:08Okay.
00:56:08Where is Sheriff Cody?
00:56:20Where is Sheriff Cody?
00:56:30He just got back from the crime lab in Phoenix.
00:56:32He'll meet us at the airport.
00:56:45Sheriff, we have something horrible to tell you.
00:56:46Your frantic call wouldn't have anything to do with rabbits, would it?
00:56:49How did you know?
00:56:51They tell me that's what killed Captain Billy and that truck driver.
00:56:54Rabbits with teeth that long.
00:56:56Crime lab's been double-checking their tests all morning.
00:56:59We'll tell you about it on the way, Sheriff.
00:57:29Okay.
00:57:29What?
00:57:30What?
00:57:30What?
00:57:55You sure we shouldn't stop?
00:57:56I'm picking up no stranger, Susan.
00:57:58I said that when we left Denver, and I'm sticking with it.
00:58:00Especially a man carrying a gun.
00:58:02Mom, can we stop soon?
00:58:04Yeah, Mom, can't we?
00:58:06Howard, can we stop at that little town up there? The children are thirsty.
00:58:09Sure.
00:58:20You won't find anything in that store, Susan.
00:58:22This is what they call a goose town out here.
00:58:26Come on.
00:58:33Daddy would like our picnic, Mommy, don't you think?
00:58:36Yes, sweetheart, I do.
00:58:38I'm hoping he'll be able to join us by tomorrow.
00:58:43How much farther to Wooddale?
00:58:46Well, there's the turnoff right up ahead.
00:58:56What was that?
00:58:57Oh, I almost scraped the bottom of the car. Daddy wouldn't like that.
00:59:08What are we gonna do, Mommy?
00:59:09Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. We'll be all right.
00:59:12What are we gonna do, Mommy?
00:59:13Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. We'll be all right.
00:59:14We'll be all right.
00:59:19What are we gonna do, Mommy?
00:59:20Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. We'll be all right.
00:59:34We'll be all right.
01:00:04We'll be all right.
01:00:34Look, look, look, look, look, look.
01:01:04Look, look, look.
01:01:34Look, look, look.
01:01:40Evidently, some survived and got out.
01:01:42Look, look, look.
01:01:50Look, look, look.
01:01:58Look, look, look.
01:02:06Look, look.

01:02:40Look.
01:02:50Look.
01:02:58Look.
01:03:00Look.
01:03:02Circle the area.
01:03:03Let us know if you spot any of them.
01:03:14What's the governor saying?
01:03:16Major White spoke to him.
01:03:17He said to use the National Guard any way we have to.
01:03:18What about the area photographs and the maps?
01:03:20Everything's at the station.
01:03:21Let's go.
01:03:23I'm in the sheriff's office.
01:03:27I'll be here if you need me.
01:03:29Thanks, Captain.
01:03:31I can't get cold, Hellman.
01:03:33Switch forward to Galanos.
01:03:35Dead.
01:03:37Well, there's nothing in Galanos but a few stores and houses.
01:03:39Are there anything in Galanos?
01:03:41I'm in the sheriff's office.
01:03:43I'll be here if you need me.
01:03:45Thanks, Captain.
01:03:47I can't get cold, Hellman.
01:03:49Switch forward to Galanos, dead.
01:03:51Well, there's nothing in Galanos but a few stores and houses.
01:03:53Are there any mines south of here?
01:03:55Or any place at all where they can hold up for the day?
01:03:57Well, I'm not sure.
01:03:59Jason, you know that territory better than I do.
01:04:01Well, Sheriff, to the best of my knowledge,
01:04:03I've never heard of any mines that far south.
01:04:05Cody.
01:04:07Put them on.
01:04:09Hello, Sheriff.
01:04:11It's me, Cole Hillman.
01:04:13Cole?
01:04:15Where are you?
01:04:17I've been trying to get a hold of you.
01:04:19Now let's go.
01:04:21Where are you?
01:04:22I've been trying to get a hold of you.
01:04:23Now listen to this.
01:04:24The rabbits attacked the ranch last night and killed Judd.
01:04:26Also, Mildred, her husband, and Les.
01:04:28They've only been moving at night and are heading your direction.
01:04:31All right.
01:04:32Stay right where you are.
01:04:34I'll have a car pick you up.
01:04:36What's that all about?
01:04:37Cole just came through Galanos.
01:04:39He said they're hauled up in the buildings there.
01:04:41Well, then we've got them.
01:04:42We'll hit the whole town with rockets.
01:04:44I've got two fighter bombers on the runway in Tucson right now.
01:04:47I'll put a call through them.
01:04:48Just a minute, Major.
01:04:49What about survivors?
01:04:51It'll be dark before I can get there with enough men to handle the situation.
01:04:54When it gets dark, you won't be able to handle the situation.
01:04:57Now, Sheriff.
01:04:58When those rabbits start coming, they could be here in a couple of hours.
01:05:01Will that give you enough time to evacuate the town?
01:05:04Not all of it.
01:05:05There are a lot of trailer courts and ranches spread around.
01:05:08Many of them without telephones.
01:05:10You know, what we need is a fence about 10 miles long and 20 feet high.
01:05:18Let's evacuate the town.
01:05:20Major White, let me have my command poster.
01:05:22I'll wait.
01:05:23I should have been hearing from Jerry by now.
01:05:25Jason, are those lines to Wooddale still open?
01:05:28As far as I know, sir.
01:05:30I didn't want the girls here when the reporters came around.
01:05:34Don't worry.
01:05:35Wooddale's a good 25 miles west of those rabbits.
01:05:38She'll be safer there than she would be in town.
01:05:40I hope you're right.
01:05:42I hope you're right.
01:06:12National Guard Alpha Company reports the rabbits are near four corners, killing as they come.
01:06:38Other companies are setting up machine gun sites outside of Ajo.

01:10:47Attention, attention.
01:11:16Ladies and gentlemen, attention.
01:11:18There is a herd of killer rabbits headed this way, and we desperately need your help.
01:11:23Roll up your windows.
01:11:25Turn on your lights and follow the police car at the entrance of the theater.
01:11:29Please keep calm and cooperate with the authorities.
01:11:32Do you read me?
01:11:36All right, move out.
01:11:42Come on. Move it up. Move it up.
01:11:45All right, folks. Come on. Let's go. Move it up. Move it up.
01:11:49Come on, folks. Move out.
01:11:51Please, let's cooperate. Let's go.
01:11:53Everyone together. Move out.
01:11:55Wait. Keep going. Keep going.
01:11:57Okay. That's it. Move out.
01:12:07Jason, take Major Wright to his command post.
01:12:10Then go to the power station and wait for orders.
01:12:13Get back into the car, Hillman.
01:12:14We're going to the railroad tracks.
01:12:26Sheriff, will you check with your office and see if they've heard from my wife?
01:12:31Sheriff Cody calling. Come in, please.
01:12:34Clark here.
01:12:35Clark.
01:12:36Have you heard from Jerry?
