00:00You are getting everybody in the spirit because you're like, you're now like the king of Christmas.
00:03I think I'm taking that title.
00:05Yeah, it's Gingerbread Land, the biggest little holiday competition, and also a merry little X-mas.
00:10You're getting us from every angle.
00:11Not to mention Celebrity British Baking Show as well, which is a Christmas theme.
00:16Wow.
00:16It's the trifecta of Christmas.
00:18Okay, watch out, Mariah.
00:19Yeah, exactly.
00:20Because you are, like you were saying, the king of Christmas.
00:22Do you all make time for each other during the holidays or is the holidays kind of like a blur?
00:25No, no, no, no.
00:25The holidays are very, very special for the fam, for sure.
00:30We go to Colorado.
00:32We've been doing it for 40 plus years.
00:34And it's the same traditions every year, and it's fun.
00:37I mean, you know, there's always the off year where it's like, what happened?
00:41You know what I mean?
00:42I mean, I thought we were all in love.
00:44Like, what the f*** is going on here?
00:46But that's family.
00:47You know what I mean?
00:47That's family.
00:48What's your favorite Hudson family tradition?
00:51Well, we keep it very traditional in the sense that we decorate the tree on Christmas Eve,
00:57and then we sit around the fire and read Night Before Christmas.
01:01And someone has chosen each year to sort of read Night Before Christmas.
01:05We've had some doozies, some hammered people.
01:10Okay, that's fun though.
01:10And they're like, oh God, this is going to be an hour and a half to get through this book.
01:15And then what happens is...
01:16You have to wake them up.
01:16Yeah, yeah.
01:17It's like, Sash is throwing up.
01:19I'm like, no, no, he's throwing up.
01:20I said, anyway.
01:21But then it's Merry Christmas to all, to all a good night.
01:25And the kids now are Pavlovian.
01:27It's like they go right to the window because they know we have Santa that's running with bells that are sort of beyond the tree light.
01:35So it's like the silhouette.
01:36And the person who plays Santa is usually the one who has kids who are older, who are done, or no kids.
01:45And it's a real deal because you're all suited up and you're running in three feet of snow.
01:49And you're at 8,000 feet altitude.
01:51Yeah.
01:52And you're borderline throwing up.
01:53But you guys go full out for Christmas.
01:55Oh, yeah.
01:56So it makes sense that you have actually become the king of Christmas.
01:59Because I was wondering what your personal relationship like was with Christmas.
02:02And it seems like y'all got a good relationship going on.
02:05Oh, yeah, yeah.
02:05Very much so.
02:06What about gift giving?
02:08Like with all the siblings and stuff?
02:09Like how does that work?
02:10It's nutty, dude.
02:11It's like normally it's like, let's just give each other a gift.
02:14And then we all go crazy.
02:16And then it's like a million gifts.
02:17And it's like, I got another one.
02:18I got another one.
02:19And it's become the tradition of just like not just one.
02:23Even though every year we always say, hey, guys, we don't need all this shit.
02:27Yeah.
02:28Let's just go one.
02:29And then you get to shopping.
02:31Like, oh, mom would love this.
02:33And then you've got all the kids and the cousins.
02:35And it's a huge family that way.
02:38So most of the gifts are going to the kids.
02:40It's also where you just get so excited.
02:41You're like, oh, I want to watch them open this and that.
02:43Like, it's like a rush.
02:44Well, that's the thing.
02:45I mean, giving is better than receiving.
02:49Depends just give.
02:49Well, I mean.
02:51You never know.
02:52Well, yeah, yeah.
02:53Sometimes you've got to flip a coin.
02:54I guess it depends.
02:55You know, do we want to receive before we give or give before we receive?
02:59Now that is the age-old question.
03:01Yes.
03:02We should tackle that one.
03:03When it comes to the gingerbread house building, was gingerbread house building also a tradition for you guys?
03:08Or did you just kind of get into that?
03:09No, we did.
03:11I mean, they were crap, you know?
03:13I mean, it was just like putting up walls together with the thing and then people would get bored being like, ugh.
03:19In theory, this was fun, but now it's not.
03:21But this competition, this hosting gig that I did, this is not gingerbread making.
03:26This is gingerbread art.
03:27I mean, it is beautiful.
03:29They're seven by seven pieces of worlds that they're building.
03:33Wow.
03:34And the architecture is unreal and the precision is unreal and the feeling behind these villages they're building was emotional.
03:42Yeah.
03:42I mean, I'm a pretty sensitive dude, but I didn't think that hosting a gingerbread show I would be crying.
03:48You were crying?
03:49I fucking cried a little time.
03:50So they're like, don't cry on the gingerbread.
03:52What makes you cry?
03:54Because they care so much and it means a lot to these people.
03:59And I found out that there's national gingerbread championships.
04:02I mean, this is a real world.
04:04Yeah.
04:04And there's 100 grand on the line, so that means a lot.
04:07Absolutely.
04:08And, you know, they have their backstories and their family stories and how they got into it and why they want to win and what they would do with the money.
04:15And they get all emotional.
04:16And, of course, I'm like, oh, my God.
04:17And then do you end up picking a favorite yourself?
04:20Were you secretly rooting for someone?
04:22From the beginning.
04:23Oh, okay.
04:24Yeah.
04:24I love the girls, first of all.
04:27And then I also just love their world because the way it works is everyone has a theme.
04:33So it's like coastal, mid-century modern, chalet.
04:37Oh, my gosh.
04:37And they have to build within those parameters.
04:40Oh, cool.
04:40That's awesome.
04:41And now, because, I mean, they're made of such delicious things, do you get to eat it after?
04:45It's all edible, but it is and it is.
04:48It's sprayed and, you know.
04:49I would take the chance.
04:50You know, I did.
04:51Well, so when I was doing the hosting thing and just flitting around and, you know, just
04:55BSing with the thing, they would hand me little dough balls of these gingerbreads, but it was
05:00not good.
05:01And they would warm it.
05:02They're like, it's edible, but you're not going to like it.
05:04But at least you tried it.
05:05And they were correct.
05:06They're a merry little X-mas, Alicia Silverstone, Jameela Jameel.
05:10I mean, this is such a fun cast.
05:12Melissa Joan Hart.
05:13I mean, this honestly is kind of like a 90s dream.
05:16I know.
05:16Yes.
05:17How was it making this movie?
05:18It was really fun.
05:19Yeah.
05:19It was really fun.
05:20My son was in it.
05:21Oh, that's so cute.
05:22Which was an incredible experience for me.
05:24Yeah.
05:25And Alicia was amazing.
05:26She's just really fun.
05:27She was my, I mean, my crush back in the day.
05:30Oh my God.
05:31With Clue.
05:32When Clue just came out, I was like, who is that person?
05:34Yeah.
05:34How do I find that girl over town?
05:37It was just beautiful.
05:38It was really fun.
05:39And it's a sweet movie.
05:41You know, it's like these Christmas movies can go either way.
05:43You know, and this one is more of a traditional family oriented, you know, rom-com, but it's
05:50got some heart to it.
05:51And with your son in it, did you do anything very special when it premiered?
05:54Like, was he so excited to watch it?
05:56He was not wanting anyone to see it.
05:59Really?
05:59Because, well, you know, I mean, it's like watching yourself and it's the first thing
06:02he's ever done.
06:04And he's just like, dude.
06:05How old is he?
06:06He's 18 now.
06:0718.
06:07Oh, okay.
06:08But he's basically a man.
06:10Yeah.
06:10But he's like, dad, the school, and I talked to him yesterday, like, how was school?
06:15He's like, crazy.
06:16He's like, everyone was pulling it up on their phones.
