00:00Move over, Zoran Mamdani. New York City already has a new political it boy, and he's JFK's
00:06grandson. With more is our senior reporter, Mara Siegler, who we're talking about today.
00:10Yeah, so Carolyn Kennedy's son, Jack Schlossberg, has decided to enter the race for the 12th
00:17congressional seat, which was formerly held by Jerry Nadler, who has decided to retire. So it's
00:24really up for grabs. It's a crowded field of Democrats, but Jack's got the internet on his
00:32side. That's right. He's famously known as Jack Uno. He has millions of followers, and he's also
00:37a self-proclaimed silly goose. Yeah, so he does all of these. He really started getting attention
00:43a couple years ago when he began doing these really kind of almost bizarre over-the-top,
00:50like he'll be paddleboarding in the Hudson, or he'll do like Brisei poetry while skateboarding.
00:56I saw one of those, like just like kind of like wacky stuff. And he often has his shirt off, and he
01:01looks like, you know, a Kennedy. He kind of looks like JFK Jr. He's a very attractive Kennedy, yeah.
01:08And then, you know, he worked for Vogue as a freelance political consultant for them. He spoke
01:13at the DNC, and then he really, I think his profile even more than kind of like his antics,
01:18it upped it when he really went after his cousin, RFK Jr., who, you know, was in the Trump
01:23administration. Maha, make America healthy again. He really went after him. And he's been going after
01:31J.D. Vance and a lot of the Trump administration. Yeah, one of my favorite memes that he kept bringing
01:37up was about relief at the pump. He'd say, J.D., I'm at the pump. I'm pumping my gas. We need some
01:43relief at the pump. Yeah. Kind of spoofing the obsession that, you know, politicians will have
01:48about gas prices. There's been some things, too, where I think, like, it has been controversial
01:53because he, as much as some of these are funny, I think some of them really crossed the line for
01:57some people. Yeah, he was hitting on Usha Vance. Right, which I think... It got into the ick
02:03factor. Right, right. It's... Yeah, but I am told, so a source told me that his online persona is very
02:12different from his actual persona, so that he's actually, like, polished. He does have... He has
02:19degrees from Yale, Harvard, Harvard Law. I mean, he's incredibly well-educated. When he does want to...
02:27You know, there are times, like, at the DNC, obviously, where he does have to be serious,
02:31and he does come across very polished, well-spoken, obviously, like, very smart.
02:37And now it's up for New Yorkers to decide. The New York 12th District is basically Chelsea,
02:42Flatiron, Murray Hill, up to the Upper West Side, Upper East Side. Yes. It's your district, too.
02:47It is. It is. So I'm all, like, going to be watching this race very closely. Yeah, so basically,
02:53a source told me that Jack is really trying to go after not just... He's going to be focusing on,
03:00of course, local politics, but with an eye on the Trump administration.
03:03And what they told me that means is Trump is apparently, according to this source,
03:07obsessed with the Kennedys. So he knows who Jack is, and in order... What they were saying was that
03:13in order to be paid attention to by the Trump administration, you have to be relevant to them.
03:19And so in order for him to fight for his district, it also means that he has to fight at, like,
03:23these larger levels and be kind of anti-maga. And in today's world, you know, it used to be having
03:30one embarrassing internet video could, you know, derail your whole campaign. That's all Jack
03:36Schlossberg has at this point. So he has so many videos, and probably is okay standing by any of
03:41them because they're just silliness. You know, it's a lot of satire. It's a lot of ways to just get
03:46attention. And, you know, I've heard it said before where it's, like, hiding the broccoli in the mashed
03:52potatoes. You know, it's like you're delivering an important message. You know, you might have
03:56a political stance, but you're hiding it in all these kind of goofy, you know, social media grabs.
04:02I mean, it will be interesting to see how his campaign goes. You know, I'm sure there will
04:05be a lot of TikToks. It'll be interesting to see how they handle that. It'll also be interesting to
04:09see him in these interviews and other things where he is being more serious. So he's going to be
04:14focusing on three crises. And I'm told those are a cost crisis, a corruption crisis, and a
04:19constitutional crisis. And the source told me that everything that Schlossberg will talk about
04:23in the next few months is in the prism of these three topics. So that could be ICE, free speech,
04:28due process, or just asking where the money is. So we will see. I mean, he's going to have to get into
04:34deeper things. This person also told me, you know, Trump doesn't know who any of those people are.
04:42He knows Jack. You want to bleep with Trump? Elect the Kennedy. It's not going to be who's a better
04:48congressman. It's who is going to be a better fighter and who has the weight in the digital
04:52world. You know, there's some truth behind that. You know, Eric Botcher currently represents
04:56a similar part of the city as a New York city councilman. And he's amazing. He's done great
05:03stuff. Amazing guy. He represents Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, you know, the Gaberhoods. And, you know,
05:08he's going to give Jack a run for his money because the locals know who he is. He's young. He's cool.
05:13He's been doing a lot of good stuff for the city. Yeah. He's like the blonde Jack Uno.
05:18So there's also Micah Lasher, who's expected to be endorsed by Nadler, Liam Elkind and Alex
05:26Boras. Nadler did come out and kind of, you know, sort of. He did not endorse Jack. No,
05:32he kind of brushed him off. Back in September, he told CNN, there's nothing particularly good or bad
05:38about a Kennedy holding my seat. But the Kennedy, unlike Schlossberg, should be somebody with a
05:43record of public service. And he doesn't have one. He's 32 years old. You got to start somewhere,
05:49you know. I mean, I think what we saw from Mom Donnie is people like, you know, they don't
05:55necessarily need somebody with a very long resume. I think that they like, you know, someone younger,
06:01someone not part of the gerontocracy, someone not part of the establishment. That being said,
06:06he is a Kennedy. So it'll be interesting. And again, like I think with the Mom Donnie campaign,
06:13they did so many things with TikTok and they really got voters invested in him and like knowing
06:18who he was. So we'll see if Jack can get that. I think Jack's like going to get that some momentum
06:23going. And they both have killer dimples. So that can't hurt either. Yes, exactly. So we'll see what
06:29happens. See if Jack gets the momentum. And for more on this story and anything from our lovely Mara,
06:34go to page6.com. Thanks so much. Thank you.
