00:00I'd noticed a huge commotion outside the gallery. The glass had been completely smashed,

00:04an iconic piece by Banksy, robbed from the gallery. Who on earth has targeted us?

00:09Are we ever going to see the painting back?

00:12Shortly before 11pm on the 8th of September 2024, a man stole Banksy's iconic

00:19Girl with Balloon artwork in an audacious late night raid. Smashing his way through the glass

00:24doors of the Grove Gallery, the thief targeted the anonymous street artist's print valued at

00:29more than a quarter of a million pounds. After breaking the reinforced glass door,

00:34a man was seen on CCTV, climbing through and snatching the signed artwork before disappearing

00:40into the night. Given the high value of the stolen artwork, the Mets flying squad were called in.

00:46Detectives made extensive CCTV enquiries, tracking the movement of the individual in possession of

00:51the artwork, following him to several streets before he was seen loading the artwork into a van and

00:57fleeing the scene. Within 48 hours, we had identified, located and arrested two men.

01:04We recovered the artwork following a warrant in the Isle of Dogs and returned it safely to Grove Gallery.

01:10I was completely, completely shocked, but in a very, very positive way. I mean, when,

01:16when sort of the flying squad showed me the actual artwork, it's very hard to put into words,

01:20the kind of weight that comes off your shoulders.

01:22Wait, look at that guys, we've got the champions here. The way that they dealt with it from the

01:27moment that they arrived on the scene, pragmatic, logical, very composed and ultimately professional,

01:34but also extremely good at what they do. I mean, as I said, to have the artwork recovered

01:39after it being robbed from us is remarkable.
