00:00excuse me may I have your attention please thank you I know many of you are
00:18aware that dr. Marlene Evans experienced a medical emergency earlier this evening
00:22I've been asked to share that she is well and resting comfortably at University Hospital
00:29where it goes without saying she's receiving the best of care so please please continue to enjoy
00:34yourselves our program will resume shortly thank you oh Steve hi baby how is Marlene she's stable
00:49thank God are they running more tests on her yeah they're gonna start now I'm gonna go check on her
00:53after the gala I'd like to go with you if that's all right I I kind of feel responsible I should
00:58have been able to diagnose her by now come on Sarah you did everything imaginable every single test
01:04yet there's obviously something I missed oh look at that granddaughter of yours she's been filming
01:13those interviews for that documentary all evening and no help no crew well she just wanted to make
01:20sure she had enough footage for her project even if Tate had to go to the hospital with Marlene
01:26who would think hmm well she looks like she has good character you know it's refreshing to see
01:34youngsters interested in stories about the good old days so to speak I'm so grateful the two of you
01:43made it to the dedication where else would we be hold on a second I know that necklace yes you do this is
01:52our grandmothers and since it was returned to the family home I've kept it locked up but tonight
01:57such a special occasion I decided to take her out first well it looks absolutely stunning on you sis
02:04have I told you how very sorry I am that I even for one minute thought you stole it once or twice
02:11a thousand apologies would not be enough you know I still can't believe that it's Doug's grandson who
02:18was the real culprit have you heard from Doug the third since he left town uh no no he did repay
02:28the money that I lent him to pay off his debt but since then radio silence actually I know someone that
02:37he's spoken of a sparkling cider when did you get in less than an hour ago listen I had to give that
02:58driver a massive tip just to get him to put the pedal on the metal and get me here on time so what am I
03:02late did I miss it no no you're just in time oh good
03:07now look our son has been way late by Leo Stark should we rescue him no no you can stoop for a
03:17little bit I'd like to enjoy a quality moment with my wife first look at you look at all of this
03:24this is your big night for you and the whole family all the hoardings it's a culmination of all
03:30your hard work yeah so why does it seem like you're not enjoying it no I am I'm trying I just
03:40I can't stop thinking about Thomas I can't stop thinking about him lying in front of that car on
03:49the ground Jack yes I know must have been terrifying for you but thank god he's okay yeah for now for
03:58now I'm Jack listen I it's not his physical health that I am worried about I know that Chad would never
04:06deliberately put his children in harm's way but he is not seeing the situation clearly the more he's
04:13around cat green the more he's hurting his children so that's why I think we need to take
04:20them to Boston both of them and I just pray that Abigail would be okay with that
04:25Abigail would do anything to protect your children you know that you've always known that
04:32you always knew her heart better than anyone okay so so you believe that that this would be the right
04:39thing to do right she would agree with me I do I believe that she would find it unacceptable for
04:49Thompson Charlotte to be in that woman's orbit so yes I also think she would want them as far
04:56removed from Catherine as possible
05:06oh agent grant I hope you're enjoying yourself it's very special night for my family you know after the
05:15gala I like to ask you a few questions concerning missing persons case more than one to be exact all members of
05:24your family your brother Stefan your brother Tony and your nephew Dimitri all whom have just banished
05:34like sands through the hourglass so are the days of our lives
05:49these disappearances are all very disturbing obviously and possibly connected somehow hard to say of course
06:07but as far as I know both Stefan and Dimitri left the family fold of their own volition so my focus
06:14is on locating my brother Tony I believe it should be law enforcement's as well
06:19hmm
06:20excuse me
06:24so tell me
06:26uh have you been in contact with Doug the third
06:29Robert
06:30no no no but he did reach out to Robin
06:32oh that's right I forget that they're related
06:35uh Robin's uncle Robert is Doug's other grandfather
06:39I remember Robert so fondly and young Doug and Robin are close
06:43uh they lost touch over the years but when Doug learned the journey was staying in your place
06:49he told Robin that he was relieved you could still open your home and your heart to somebody else after all the things he did
06:57how come
06:59it would have been even kinder if he had said it to me personally
07:03you're right it would have and it's too bad he didn't
07:06but I think that kid is pretty shamed everything that happened
07:10he'll reach out when he's ready
07:12I hope so
07:14so um
07:16tell me about Jeremy
07:19is he showing you the proper gratitude for your hospitality
07:24oh yes
07:25big time
07:27well then um allow me to show you mine
07:30it means a great deal to me that you took him in Julie
07:34I know he's made some terrible decisions
07:37terrible decisions
07:39you could say that about a lot of Hortons
07:42Lord knows
07:43but
07:44but
07:45still
07:46your
07:47generosity you've shown to take him in
07:49you've given him a safe place to land
07:52and I
07:53can only hope that now he can finally find his way you know
07:57thank you

08:14but um
08:15I'm gonna go check on her after the gala
08:17I'm sure she'll appreciate that
08:19but I suspect that's not the only thing that's on your mind right now
08:24has Xander responded to your divorce decree?
08:29no
08:30he hasn't
08:31well I'm sure it'll go smoothly
08:34I spoke to him the other day
08:37you did?
08:38mm-hmm
08:39what did he say?
08:40well he's devastated of course
08:42I mean he's aware that he's gonna lose his wife and his child
08:46because of his own actions
08:48but
08:49he intimated to me that he's not going to fight you
08:52in any way for this
08:54really?
08:57hmm
08:58that's the impression I got

09:53and skeptical if the project would ever become a reality
09:57but then earlier today when we cut the ribbon
10:01giving hope to so many people that that place is going to help

12:05I felt his spirit come through that article
12:07when I read that
12:08sounds like you all right
12:10and the research though
12:12there's so much about him I didn't know right

14:31thank you
14:33but my support comes with some advice
14:36when I was going through my custom battle with Will
14:40I thought I was doing the right thing
14:42but it turns out I was causing him more harm than good
14:44and I just don't want to see that kind of thing happen in Thomas and Charlotte
14:47right but that's what I'm trying to do
14:49I'm trying to keep them from harm Lucas
14:52I know you feel like you're doing the right thing

15:21I did marry him
15:23and I was just remembering all the wonderful anniversary celebrations that followed
15:27of course we had so many memories
15:29but let me tell you
15:32I'm gonna give you some unpleasant news
15:36I was thinking about the mess that Titan has become
15:40what's going on with Titan?
15:41oh well listen
15:43the only way we can save Titan
15:45is to take out a massive loan
15:47so we had to put the
15:49the Kiriakis estate up as collateral
15:52now if we don't turn the company around
15:54we could lose everything
15:56then my daughter's future and Victoria's future
15:59well Maggie, turn the company around
16:01you make it sound so simple
16:03well all it takes is good people at the top
16:06and you're good people Maggie
16:08come on
16:11you have more business acumen than Sander and Philip rolled into one
16:15thank you for saying that
16:17it's the truth
16:18I believe it
16:20I wish I could make you see you now
16:22right
16:23a girl from the farm morphs into the boss in the boardroom
16:34you have come a long way baby
16:37and I drink tea

16:41ladies and gentlemen
16:43if I could have your attention once more

16:51I can think of no better way to honor the man who I've
16:57yes this is Mayor Price
16:59what? what?
17:01his family
17:03how did that happen?
17:04his colleagues
17:05and those
17:07who carry on his legacy
17:09just keep me up to date
17:11journal?
17:13yes
17:15but I'll tell you after the gala
17:28and on that note
17:30please welcome to the stage
17:32Dr. Sarah Horton Kiriakis
17:34thank you
17:40um
17:42as many of you know
17:43Dr. Tom Horton was my grandfather
17:47growing up with someone so kind
17:50and
17:51with such a well-tuned moral compass
17:54such a gift
17:56and
17:58whether I'm counseling a patient
18:01or
18:02help someone through a difficult diagnosis
18:05or the loss of a family member
18:07I always think
18:09what would Grandpa Tom do?
18:12and
18:14I only hope that I'm able to offer my patients
18:17a fraction of the wisdom and guidance that he gave to his
18:22and to me
18:24and that
18:25is the legacy that he left for every doctor and nurse at the hospital
18:30and the example for all of us
18:34one that I strive to follow every day
18:36hello everyone
18:37I'm Mike Horton
18:46like Sarah I'm a doctor
18:48clearly Grandpa Tom inspired a lot of us to go into medicine
18:52when I worked at University Hospital
18:56I could feel his influence there
19:01long after he passed away
19:03never more so than when I became Chief of Staff
19:06I was so honored to be offered that position
19:09but as much as everyone told me I was qualified to take it
19:14I wasn't sure I could live up to Grandpa's example
19:19luckily
19:21there was one person who gave me the reassurances I needed
19:24hello what's this?
19:26it's something that your grandfather gave me when I was a little girl
19:30and I've always loved it
19:32it's something that Tom got when he was Chief of Staff
19:34and I want you to have
19:39but I felt like I should ask Alice first
19:42so this is what your
19:43your little secret with my grandma was all about
19:55it's a silver pin
20:01I'm Horton Chief of Staff
20:02yeah
20:05I've carried this with me everyday since
20:08close to my heart
20:10just like my grandfather still is
20:13it's like he's
20:15been with me
20:17pointing me in the right direction
20:19when I have a tough decision to make
20:21he could always make the most complicated problems seem so simple
20:26and to him
20:28it only ever boiled down to one thing
20:29put what's best for your patients above all else
20:35as a current Chief of Staff of University Hospital
20:46I am proud to be in a long line of Chiefs that followed Dr. Horton
20:52all of our nurses and doctors strive everyday to live up to Tom Horton's example
21:00I know that for the Chiefs it's probably double that
21:05the Tom Horton that I had the privilege to know
21:08not only cared about his patients but also his staff
21:15and when times were bleak he was always there to give us words of advice and encouragement
21:22and on those terrible times when we actually lost a patient
21:28he was always there to comfort us
21:31and to remind us that we did everything
21:34everything we could
21:36and that sometimes
21:38sometimes it's just out of our hands
21:40he was also there to remind us
21:44to be grateful
21:46for the days when we could intervene
21:49in a positive healing way
21:52in the grand scheme
21:54of life and death
21:56that
21:58is Tom Horton's legacy
21:59and one that I think every Chief of Staff since
22:05has tried to live up to
22:08I just want to say thank you to our wonderful team at University Hospital
22:22not just for everything they do
22:25but for keeping alive the spirit of Dr. Tom Horton
22:30I'm very proud to open this clinic
22:33that bears his name
22:35one that is free
22:37to all
22:41I can think of no better way
22:44to honor this great man's legacy
22:45a man's legacy
23:04good evening everyone
23:06as we've heard Dr. Tom Horton's legacy at University Hospital
23:11is a long-lasting one
23:15and while I wasn't
23:17fortunate enough to
23:19witness
23:21Dr. Horton's tenure
23:23first-hand
23:25I've heard so much from my husband
23:28about his impact on the lives of our fellow citizens
23:31his late wife Dr. Lexi Carver
23:34she was also Chief of Staff
23:37and I know she
23:38that she
23:39like her predecessors and successors
23:42strove to maintain
23:44Dr. Horton's
23:46standard of excellence
23:48applause
23:55as mayor
23:57your wife is giving a wonderful speech
24:00I agree
24:02when this wraps up
24:04you and I need to talk
24:05to know that the Tom Horton
24:06I hope you make progress
24:08with what we had discussed earlier
24:10every one of them
24:11I haven't forgotten
24:12no matter their means
24:15hello everyone
24:17I'm Marie Horton
24:19and you may be surprised to learn
24:21that I was never Chief of Staff
24:23of the University Hospital
24:25I am simply
24:27Tom Horton's daughter
24:30and when I was a kid
24:32I didn't think that was very special
24:33well I knew Dad was special of course
24:36but it seemed to me
24:38that whenever my siblings
24:40or I wanted our father
24:42all to ourselves
24:44he'd get called away
24:46I can't tell you how many Sunday dinners
24:49and birthdays
24:51even Christmas he missed
24:53but then when I grew up
24:55I realized that's why he was so special
24:59and why he is beloved
25:02and respected
25:04because of his commitment
25:07well he wanted to spend every minute of
25:11of his life with us of course
25:13but he made a sacrifice for the greater good
25:17and he would be so honored
25:20he's so honored
25:26like Marie
25:28I also was never
25:30Chief of Staff of University Hospital
25:32but unlike Marie
25:34I didn't grow up with Tom Horton
25:37lucky me
25:39lucky me
25:41I came into this extraordinary family
25:44by marriage
25:46a family that healed my body
25:49my heart
25:51so many times over the years
25:54so I decided
25:56that I should pay it back
25:58at least a little bit
26:00so I volunteered
26:02at University Hospital
26:03with his beloved wife Alice
26:07a truly wonderful woman
26:09as well
26:11she was so proud
26:13of this hospital
26:15she was so proud of her Tom
26:18whose powerful
26:20uplifting influences felt
26:22in every corner of this hospital
26:24and it still is
26:26and it still is
26:35dear friends
26:37I am Tom Horton's oldest grandchild

30:52All the loved ones we've lost,
31:21I love you.
31:46I love you.
31:50Rest in peace, baby.
31:52I love you.
31:54I love you.
31:56I love you.
32:00I love you.
32:12I'm sorry.
32:28There's no gentle way to tell you this.
32:34But Adrian's gone.
32:38She died.
32:40I love you.
32:44I love you.
32:46You'll never know your mother.
32:58You're much too young to remember how good she was and how much she loved you.
33:06She was willing to give up her own life so you could live.
33:10She was my mother too, Hope.
33:14You're my baby sister.
33:18Maybe someday I can tell you about her and help you to know what a brave and beautiful lady our mother was.
33:28All the miracles we've witnessed.
33:34Your son of being married to you.
33:36You're all I really need.
33:38You're gonna need this present.
33:40You're gonna need this present.
33:41And want it.
33:42I promise you.
33:43Dancing shoes.
33:48Dancing shoes.
34:00You were born to dance, Maggie.
34:04You like them?
34:08Or is it you want a different color?
34:14Marty, they're beautiful.
34:16Marty, wait and take my wife dancing.
34:28All the traditions we've kept.
34:32Alright, now I'm gonna tell you a story.
34:34A very special story.
34:36We listen to it every year at this time.
34:38And it only gets better every time we hear it.
34:41Our story starts with a star.
34:44A star, heralded birth of a child.
34:48A child who would bring a message to all of us.
34:50A message of peace.
34:52A message of love.
34:54Joseph went into the city of Bethlehem to be taxed with Mary, his wife, who was great with child.
35:02And while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
35:06And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger.
35:12Because there was no room for them.
35:14Because there was no room for them in the end.
35:18So in addition to this being a place of healing and innovation.
35:24University Hospital brought the community together.
35:28For laughter, charity and hope.
35:30So with the opening of the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic.
35:34My grandfather's legacy will continue to serve the community all the days of our lives.
35:44And beyond.
35:46Thank you
35:58It's a beautiful tribute Jennifer.
36:00Well, thank you. I could not have done it without your daughter.
36:02She did a great job.
36:03You know, when you mentioned all the kids that were born at the hospital,
36:08it took me right back to the day our little Stephanie came into the world.
36:14And I can't believe how many years have gone by.
36:17Well, you know what they say, time flies when you're having fun.
36:23That was a lovely speech you gave earlier.
36:25Mom, yours too, Mom.
36:27Yeah, you really showed everyone how far-reaching Grandpa's legacy is.
36:30Um, oh, Marlena's cardiologist needs to see me, so, um, I better get back to the hospital.
36:40Yeah, well, good luck, sweetie.
36:42Keep me posted, okay?
36:43You will.
36:44Love you, love you.
36:50It has been just wonderful having you all home again.
36:54Well, we should do this more often.
36:56Well, maybe we could start a whole chain of Dr. Tom Horton free clinics.
37:01That's not the worst idea you've ever had.
37:05I'm just so glad we have the one, and I've been thinking.
37:10I can't imagine that Grandma or Grandpa ever realized that his legacy would last so long, so long after he was gone.
37:21Leaving so soon?
37:29The Bureau will be in touch with more questions.
37:32We are well aware that you have your own people searching for Tony in Greece.
37:36Hmm.
37:37I'm willing to do whatever it takes to find my brother.
37:42Right.
37:44Look, I would ask you to call your little search team off, but I'm sure you're not going to do that, so...
37:49Keep me in a loop, let me know if you find out anything.
37:51Of course.
37:52You'll be the first to know.
38:03I think I'm getting close to the breakthrough we've been waiting for.
38:07I need to find E.J.
38:17Oh, it's right over there.
38:22E.J.
38:23Ah, Madam Mayor.
38:27Is something wrong?
38:29You could say that.
38:31It seems that your sister Kristen has escaped from prison.
38:42Hello?
38:46Where the hell am I?
38:48Tony?
39:02Tony?
39:02Tony?
