Resident doctors go on strike today across England as part of a five-day action in a dispute over pay.The NHS Confederation and NHS Providers, which represent health trusts, said continued action was piling pressure on already-stretched budgets.
00:00We've put forward a whole range of proposals to Mr Streeting, both on jobs and on pay.
00:05Very reasonable proposals, talking about multi-year deals, progression over the course of the Parliament.
00:11We want to be able to take strikes completely off the table for the entire course of this Parliament.
00:16Make sure that we've got doctors getting jobs through an employment guarantee, increase the number of training posts.
00:22Mr Streeting will only commit to 1,000 this year, which when we've got 20,000 doctors being turned away just doesn't touch the sides.
00:29And doesn't want to talk about pay at all, not even for future years.
00:33And that makes it really difficult to solve a dispute which is about jobs and pay when we can't come to an agreement about what the sensible position is, even when we're talking about reasonable multi-year proposals.
