Non, le Portugal n'a pas interdit toutes les pratiques islamiques

Des affirmations virales en ligne semblent donner une portée excessive à une loi récemment approuvée qui interdira le port du voile en public au Portugal.

00:00No, Portugal is not banning all Islamic practices.
00:06Viral claims on social media
00:09allege that Portugal is banning
00:10all Islamic laws and practices
00:12and that failing to comply
00:14will result in a €4,000 fine.
00:17This post on X has been seen
00:19more than 800,000 times
00:21and has been shared and liked
00:22thousands of times too
00:24and alleges that more and more EU countries
00:26will follow suit.
00:27It attaches a video
00:28which also makes the same claims
00:30noting that France, Italy, Sweden, Austria
00:33and Belgium are also going to implement
00:36the same measures.
00:37However, the claim that Portugal
00:39and other countries are banning
00:40all Islamic practices is wrong
00:42and appears to be an exaggeration
00:44of a recent bill to ban the wearing
00:46of face veils in public places.
00:48In mid-October, the Portuguese parliament
00:50approved a bill banning face veils
00:52worn for gender or religious reasons
00:54in public in a move seen as targeting
00:57the face coverings worn by some Muslim women.
01:00It was proposed by the far-right Jäger party
01:02and received support from the ruling
01:04centre-right PSD, the Liberal Initiative
01:06and the centre-right CDSPP.
01:09Anyone flouting the new law
01:11could face fines of between €200 and €4,000
01:14depending on the severity of the case.
01:17So the online claims clearly have some parallels
01:19to the face veils ban, but they've exaggerated
01:22and misconstrued the truth.
01:24The law will now be debated
01:25in a parliamentary committee
01:26where it may be amended
01:28before returning to the plenary
01:29for a final vote.
01:31President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza
01:33still needs to approve the law.
01:35Otherwise, he could veto it
01:37or send it to the Constitutional Court
01:39for review.
01:40Once fully approved,
01:41Portugal will join the likes of Austria,
01:43France, Belgium, Denmark
01:45and others in the group of European countries
01:47which have banned the burqa.
01:49But again, this doesn't mean
01:50that these countries have banned
01:52the practice of Islam.
