The Beach Volleyball World Championships are getting underway in Adelaide. The tournament is the biggest volleyball event in Australia since the Sydney 2000 Olympic games.

00:00It's the first time the Beach Volleyball World Championships are being held in the
00:06Southern Hemisphere. We're here at Pinky Flat in Adelaide's CBD where they've
00:10carted three and a half thousand tons of sand to create five courts, three
00:15competition courts and two warm-ups. There are nine Australian teams that have
00:18qualified for these championships with a number of Olympians amongst them but
00:23also 12 senior debutants who will be competing in the World Championships for
00:27the first time. Nearly 200 athletes from about 40 countries have travelled here
00:33to Adelaide. The championships are continuing for the next 10 days. Athletes
00:37spent the morning warming up before the first serve at 9 a.m. and the games will
00:42continue with the last game taking place at 10 p.m. tonight.
