00:00When Zoran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race,
00:03it stirred plenty of strong reactions.
00:06While many celebrated his historic victory,
00:08some public figures were, let's say, less than thrilled.
00:12So who couldn't hide their disappointment?
00:15Let's see.
00:16One of the loudest critics
00:19turned out to be actress Debra Messing.
00:22Yes, Will & Grace's Debra Messing,
00:25someone known for her outspoken political views
00:27just days before the election.
00:29She publicly backed Andrew Cuomo,
00:32calling Mamdani inexperienced
00:34and claiming he had never held a job.
00:36Then, after his victory, she doubled down,
00:39resharing a post from President Donald Trump
00:42that called Mamdani a Jew hater.
00:45Many called her response a meltdown,
00:47with users on X accusing her
00:50of spreading hate and misinformation.
00:52My parents were proud Zionists my entire life.
00:55And so, you know, I feel to honor them,
00:59you know, I have to continue that, you know, and not shy away from it.
01:06But Messing didn't stop there.
01:08In the days that followed, she went even further,
01:11memes on her Instagram stories targeting Mamdani,
01:15which many criticized as Islamophobic.
01:17One post even referred to him as Osama bin Mamdani
01:21and urged New Yorkers to vote no to terrorism,
01:25while another labeled him a communist jihadist.
01:28The posts didn't stay up for long,
01:30but the backlash came fast,
01:32with social media users calling her behavior unacceptable.
01:36And Messing wasn't the only one rallying behind Andrew Cuomo, Woody Allen.
01:41The controversial filmmaker also threw his support behind Mamdani's opponent,
01:45insisting that Cuomo's experience made him the better choice.
01:48Cuomo knows New York, Allen said in an interview.
01:52Mamdani is inexperienced.
01:55Seems like time has proven him wrong.
01:57Meanwhile, rapper 50 Cent reacted in a way only he could.
02:01With dark humor, he posted a picture of a tombstone on Instagram reading,
02:05RIPNYC, founded 1624, died 2025.
02:10The post went viral, and soon others jumped in.
02:13And by the way, he has moved out of the city.
02:16But he's a classic New Yorker.
02:17I'm sure you'll like some of his songs.
02:18Oh, man.
02:19It's actually tough for me in that way.
02:21Yeah, so where does this debate go?
02:22Incredible songs.
02:23Reality star Jackie Goldschneider from The Real Housewives of New Jersey
02:27shared the same image, writing that Cuomo wasn't perfect, but at least had the experience.
02:33She even accused Mamdani of supporting protests that put Jews at risk,
02:38a claim that, by the way, has no factual basis.
02:41Amy Schumer also seemed to side with Cuomo, though in her usual cryptic style.
02:45She posted a picture of her mail-in ballot sticker with the caption,
02:50Rhymes with Duomo.
02:52Subtle, but clear enough.
02:54Then came Michael Rappaport, who went after Mamdani for eating sushi.
02:59Yes, seriously.
03:00The actor shared photos of Mamdani at an upscale New York restaurant on X and wrote,
03:05How's a so-called working-class mayoral candidate like Zoran Mamdani eating at Omen sushi tonight,
03:13one of the priciest joints in NYC?
03:16This clown lives in a rent-stabilized apartment in Queens,
03:19but dines like a diplomat on a Qatar-funded per diem.
03:23Who's paying for that Toro, Zoran the moron?
03:26You ain't working-class, you're-you're fraud-class.
03:30Ouch.
03:31Maybe Michael could grab some sushi himself.
03:33Might help take the edge off that rant.
03:35Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, simply wrote on X,
03:40If this is what the people of NYC want, then so be it.
03:43Thank God I don't live there anymore.
03:46Ouch.
03:47But perhaps the loudest and most persistent critic was Donald Trump himself.
03:52The president spent weeks mocking Mamdani as
03:54a communist and a danger to New York.
03:57If you want to see what congressional Democrats wish to do to America,
04:02just look at the result of yesterday's election in New York where their party installed.
04:07A communist as the mayor of the largest city in the nation.
04:15And Mamdani was brought up in an interview.
04:17Trump delivered his signature punch.
04:19Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you.
04:23Charismatic, breaking the old rules.
04:25What do you think about that?
04:27Well, I think I'm a much better-looking person than him, right?
04:30After the election, the president warned that Mamdani's victory showed how
04:34crazy Democrats had become, and even threatened to limit federal funds for New York City.
04:39Although legally, he can't actually do that.
04:41Yeah, and I think he should be very nice to me.
04:43You know, I'm the one that sort of has to approve a lot of things coming to him,
04:47so he's off to a bad start.
04:48Trump didn't stop there.
04:50He claimed that Mamdani's win meant the U.S. had lost its sovereignty,
04:54and warned that people would soon be fleeing communism in New York.
04:59According to him, the country now faces a choice between communism and common sense.
05:05But now the Democrats are so extreme that Miami
05:09will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York City.
05:14But while the headlines were full of critiques and jabs,
05:17Mamdani's victory was also met with plenty of excitement and celebration.
05:22On January 1st, I will be sworn in as the mayor of New York City.
05:30And it wasn't just politicians cheering him on.
05:33A whole lineup of celebrities joined in the celebration,
05:36especially those who had been rooting for him all along.
05:40So who exactly were Mamdani's biggest supporters?
05:44Let's take a look.
05:45Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for playing the Hulk but also for his political activism,
05:50didn't just tweet his support.
05:52He picked up the phone.
05:53Along with comedian Ilana Glazer,
05:55he volunteered to work a phone bank for Mamdani in the final stretch of the campaign.
06:00Meanwhile, Wallace Shawn — yes, the beloved actor from The Princess Bride —
06:04was out canvassing in the East Village.
06:07You have to admit, that's some serious dedication.
06:11Then there was filmmaker Spike Lee, who made his stance clear during an interview with CNN's
06:16Victor Blackwell back in August.
06:19Why Mamdani?
06:22We have to move forward.
06:23We have to move forward for equality and for New Yorkers to make this,
06:28again, the greatest city in the world.
06:31Powerful words, from a man who spent decades highlighting social justice issues through
06:36his films.
06:38And speaking of powerful gestures, comedian Rami Youssef not only invited Mamdani to join him on
06:44stage at the Beacon Theater earlier this year, but also took things to another level.
06:49Over the weekend, he played Mamdani on Saturday Night Live.
06:52Rings, suit, and all — a pretty creative way to show his support.
06:56I can't wait to see it, man.
06:59Dude, it was so fun.
07:00This is honestly —
07:01This is crazy.
07:04I love you, man.
07:05Love you, brother.
07:06I appreciate you.
07:06Bo and Yang also got in on the fun, posting a selfie wearing a Zoran for Mayor t-shirt.
07:12We're so lucky to have Zoran as a candidate.
07:15Let's give him all the support he needs.
07:17Let's make New York City more affordable for everybody.
07:20Meanwhile, actress and former gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon cast her early vote and
07:26urged everyone else to do the same, calling Mamdani brilliant and young.
07:31Not bad to have Miranda Hobbs in your corner.
07:33And of course, model and activist Emily Ratajkowski was one of the earliest to back him.
07:38She even launched the Hot Girls for Zoran trend, sharing a video alongside the candidate himself
07:44to encourage voter turnout.
07:45It is Emily Ratajkowski and —
07:47Zoran Mamdani.
07:48It's election day today.
07:50You need to get to the polls.
07:51They're open till 9 p.m.
07:52What else do they need to know?

07:56You can find out where your poll site is.
07:57Text your friends and family because we need everybody to come out.
08:01You have to love how Gen Z and millennial activism keeps getting catchier.
08:05Actress Lupita Nyong'o also shared her personal connection, saying she's known Mamdani from way
08:10back and believes he has the personality and temperament to be an excellent mayor.
08:15She proudly shared that she'd already voted for him.
08:18Now that's friendship and faith rolled into one.
08:20Even singer Lorde, though not a U.S. voter, showed her enthusiasm on Instagram, calling Mamdani
08:28the one candidate with a crystal clear vision for a fairer and more caring New York.
08:34She urged followers to get thee to the polls, because who can resist a poetic call to civic
08:39duty from Lorde herself?
08:52meaning, is echoing?
08:54Now I'll wait and see.
08:58Amen.
08:58Here we go on Icharatton and Prayasjon mine.
08:59Thanks a lot.
