00:00Welcome to Yap Session where we talk about what's buzzing on the internet and
00:04anything that page six is talking about around the office too. First topic of the
00:08day is it girls. What is an it girl? It's not Pennywise. We're not talking about
00:13Pennywise here. These are cool girls in Hollywood that everyone's
00:18talking about. They're stylish, they're cool, they're in movies, they're on TV.
00:21Sydney Sweeney's at the top of the list right now. Yes, and she's not going
00:26anywhere because we're talking about who she's with, where she is, what she's
00:29doing, what she's wearing. We can't stop. Yeah. I know she was just making out with
00:34Scooter Braun in Central Park. Yeah, she wanted us to see her. Yeah, and it's not
00:37even warm out anymore. What are you doing in the park making out? Go inside Sydney.
00:41Well, that's not where the paparazzi is, Ryan. You gotta think like a celebrity. Scenic rock. Yes.
00:47Scenic rock. Yeah, Scooter Braun out of all people. It's like she's turning on Taylor.
00:50I know, but you know she courts the controversy. I saw a headline that said
00:55Sydney Sweeney refuses to apologize. I'm like, refuses to apologize for what? For
01:00being hot? Like at this point, she was given the opportunity to apologize and she
01:03was like, what are you talking about? I'm Sydney Sweeney. What confuses me though is
01:08like, she's saying she's single, she was engaged, then there was speculation that
01:13she split, no more ring, she seemed single, then was seen with Scooter, then was
01:18saying she was single, and now she's making out with Scooter on a rock. Like, I can't
01:21keep up. Can a girl date? You never dated and got a little messy Rasta hiltation, if you
01:26will. I don't know if the girls know about that, but you know, they keep a couple.
01:30Well, and she's still hanging out with Jonathan DeVino, you know, under not so
01:34romantic situations. She was spotted like in a car with him. I mean, the fact that I
01:38know this much about this girl's personal life. Against your will probably, right?
01:42She gets a new haircut and I'm like, okay, I'm in again. She pulls you back in.
01:48Anything she wears. It's like, she's out there promoting this new, her new movie,
01:51Christie, which actually is an incredible story, true story. And it's like, all we can
01:56talk about is, wow, this dress that she has on is sheer.
01:59You know who's like that though? Zendaya. Zendaya's another girl that's like that, where it's like,
02:03she can do anything, but it's like, well, what is she wearing?
02:05Yeah, she's in the Dune movies, but everyone wants to know what she's wearing on the red carpet.
02:09I didn't even watch the Dune, but I definitely checked out the red carpet looks.
02:12Absolutely. I mean, but she's an icon. I think Sydney is becoming a red carpet icon probably
02:18herself, but. But it's like, how does one become an icon? That's the question. What are the elements
02:23of the it girl? You have to have a perfect stylist, I feel like. And Law Roach has definitely.
02:27Law Roach. Yes. Yeah. He's definitely gotten Zendaya like all the way together, like really made
02:33her an icon through fashion. Absolutely. Okay, so fashion. The fashion, the look. Yeah,
02:37first of all, the look. I'm sorry. We all talk a lot of smack about JLo. I love JLo,
02:41but it's the face for me. That face card for 50 something years has never looked better. She
02:47is a stunning woman. I just get hypnotized. So the look is very important. And she was
02:50the it girl when she was in the green Versace dress. Yes. You know, that was the moment,
02:55you know, it wasn't just the face, it was also the butt. Yeah. And for years, we couldn't
02:59stop talking about her. And, and you know, we've had other it girls, you know, a couple
03:02years ago, maybe it was Jennifer Lawrence, you know, pre pandemic, you know, Angelina
03:07Jolie, when she first burst on the scene, won an Oscar, started dating, you know, Brad
03:11Pitt, she was in that girl. So we have these, each generation has a little micro
03:15moment. And some of the things I think that those girls have in common is like the
03:19it factor, right? Like they have charisma. Sure. Anybody can have charisma, but to
03:23have the it factor, what is that? Like, it's like this, je ne sais quoi. It's this
03:28like thing you can't teach. It's something that's unique to them.
03:30Energy. Yeah. But they give off, it like irradiates, and then we're all like,
03:34Oh, yeah. We don't know what it is. We can't even put our finger on it, but we're
03:37like, I'm obsessed. Yeah. It's not enough just to be beautiful or just stylish or just
03:42talented. Have to be all three. Yeah. So that like you rise above all of it because
03:47there are a lot of beautiful women in Hollywood. Yeah. And they have, they can
03:51all hire a good stylist, but that extra thing that makes Zendaya cool. Right. Yeah. I
03:55think to me, that's a bit of a cool girl. Like when I was like a little kid, I
03:58remember thinking Winona Ryder was so cool and she was an it girl. Oh, she was in
04:02Beetlejuice, Heather's, you know, she had this like the bangs. Yes. You know, she had
04:07the cool leather jacket. Like, I think you have to kind of... Not an it girl. Yeah. I think you can't be a
04:12pick me girl. Right. We have an it girl. We have pick me girls. Yeah. A pick me girl can never be an
04:17it girl. Anne Hathaway, unfortunately, has never been an it girl. Don't you dare. Don't you dare. I love Anne Hathaway. I love Anne Hathaway. Maybe for the one month Devil Wears
04:26product came out, she was an it girl. And then she, then she ruined it. I mean, that's all she
04:30needed was Devil's Wear product. I know. Do you think Taylor Swift is an it girl? Because I feel like
04:37we're paying a lot of attention to her, but then she does get a lot of critiques on
04:41her fashion choices, I'll say. Yeah. I'm not going to say backlash. She's pretty basic. Yeah. The way she dresses and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm,
04:48yeah, I'm a cozy kid. I love wearing something comfortable, but I would say in the world of pop music right now, Charlie is the
04:54it girl, Charlie XCX. Oh, okay. Yeah. And Taylor is just, yeah, Charlie has the cool factor. I mean, Taylor Swift
05:01said herself that she's not a savage or she's not a, what is it, like a, a hot girl or whatever, when she
05:06was kind of dissing Kayla Nicole, shading Nicole. So she's not, she's admittedly like not the cool girl.
05:13That's not her brand. Her brand is like the girl next door, the girl that you can relate to. That's her brand.
05:17She doesn't give me it girl though, but I think it matters who you ask, right? Because like,
05:20I think if you were to ask me, my it girls are like Rihanna, Beyonce, but those are almost, you almost, they're in a category on their own.
05:27Yeah. Rihanna in the 2010s. It's like anything she did. As soon as she cut that hair off.
05:32Yes. Yeah. And she was the first, I remember this was such a moment where she just started going topless on Instagram.
05:38And she's like, ban me, go ahead. I have a hundred million followers on here. Ban me, go ahead. Like, okay.
05:44Boo hoo. I'm still Rihanna. Like she just started taking the tasteful nudes, you know,
05:48a tasteful nudes. One hand over the breast, like, and everyone was like jaw dropped. This was like,
05:52you know, 2012, 13 era. And it was just, yeah, bad girl RiRi. Yeah. Yeah.
05:57I think it matters who was popping when you were in your formidable years. You know what I mean?
06:01When you were in like junior high to high school to like early college, who was that guy? Like for me,
06:06it was like the Rihannas and the Beyonce's and like Drake. I don't talk about girls,
06:09but just who was popping during that time. Yeah.
06:11You have like a particular connection to them and that nostalgia that turns like a regular fan to like a barb or like a beehive.
06:16Like, you know what I mean? It's like, you can have an extra part.
06:19You can have an it boy. I think Jacob Elordi is an it boy.
06:22He's an it boy.
06:23Yeah.
06:24He appears on camera even as Frankenstein the monster on Netflix. And I'm like, I'll watch.
06:30Like me like Frankenstein.
06:32And we are like, Ooh, he's out to lunch with someone. Like it could have been his next door neighbor or his,
06:38you know, someone from his office and we're all like, who's that girl he's eating with?
06:42Like we need to know now.
06:44Yeah. That's the thing. It girls and boys can make whoever they're around it boys and girls.
06:48Yeah.
06:49That's how much of an it they have is that they're, it's contagious.
06:52Well, another it girl is definitely Kim Kardashian. And it's interesting because when we listed
06:57kind of the things that we say, make you an it girl, talent was one of those things.
07:00And a lot of people critique Kim.
07:03Let's get into the talent talk.
07:05A lot of people critique Kim. So it's like, does she fall? I mean, we can't deny her impact,
07:09but does she fall under that it girl factor?
07:10Like even someone like a Rihanna or a JLo, like they're unabashed it girls.
07:15The talent is arguable, but it's, I think you have to have, here's my, here's what I say.
07:20You have to have a minimum amount of talent. You do have to have some talent.
07:23You don't have to have an extraordinary Beyonce level of level of talent, but you do have to have
07:27some just like the bare minimum. But if you have charisma and the look and the it factor,
07:31then it's like, that'll carry you the rest of the way.
07:33Oh, I mean, Jennifer Lopez is one of the best dancers, you know, in pop music.
07:38She's stunning. She's a fantastic actor too.
07:40Yeah, I do think she's a good actress.
07:41Not to sound like I'm in Mean Girls, but one time Jennifer Lopez did an interview
07:45where she said she gets eight hours of sleep a night. So now I'm always like to my husband,
07:49I need eight hours of sleep. Jennifer Lopez gets eight hours of sleep a night.
07:53That's her trick.
07:54That's the influence.
07:55It's probably a little bit more, you know, but she told me eight hours of sleep.
07:59And I said, same.
08:00Say less.
08:01I'll do that too.
08:01I know the next generation of it girls are probably people we don't even know.
08:05They might be a TikTok star, a podcast girl.
08:07Yeah. Who do we think is next?
08:09I mean, are the Alex's the podcast, you know, Alex Cooper?
08:12I don't really feel like they have that sort of stardom about them.
08:16Like you look at them and I feel like sometimes it makes a difference between like your influencers
08:20and your celebrities. Like, you know, you look at Sydney Sweeney, you're just like
08:23captivated and drawn in like you want to look like her, like you want to look at her.
08:27I'm sorry. But like, I would say, I would not say no to that.
08:35I just don't feel like Alex Earl and some of the other podcast girls really have that sort of
08:39that draw to them.
08:40We're just in a new era of celebrity, I feel like.
08:41We're like the influence of the new celebrities and the celebrities have less pull in a way.
08:45But a good celebrity, we still need those, you know?
08:48Mm-hmm.
08:48I would say maybe Sabrina Carpenter. I know she's not really up and coming.
08:52She's kind of here.
08:53She's came.
08:54But she's, yeah.
08:55She's 25.
08:56She's like 10, she has 10 albums.
08:58Yeah.
08:59Yeah.
08:59But I mean, her fashion is really evolving.
09:01Yeah.
09:01She's like recreating looks from the nanny that everybody's obsessed with following what
09:06she's going to do next.
09:07Yeah.
09:07So she kind of has that, she's still like young Hollywood.
09:11Yeah.
09:11And she's stunning.
09:12Like, beautiful woman.
09:13Yes.
09:14And an it girl that I, that had a great comeback this past year was Parker Posey.
09:19So in the eighties and nineties, and you know, she was just this quirky, cool girl, you know,
09:24great style, hipster.
09:26And then a couple of decades, you know, we didn't hear about Parker Posey, but then with
09:29White Lotus, she came back and it, that magic was still there and it was like, oh my God,
09:33we love Parker Posey.
09:34The resurrection of an it girl.
09:36Yeah.
09:36Once an it girl, always an it girl.
09:38Yes.
09:39I mean, I think.
09:40Said by the number one it girl herself.
09:43You know, I am following JLo's rules, so here I am.
09:46So in high school superlatives, the it girl doesn't win homecoming queen.
09:51She wins best dressed or like, you know what I mean?
09:53Like she wins something else.
09:55Most likely to host a talk show.
09:56Yeah.
09:57Right.
09:57Or like most likely to be like president, something where it's like,
10:00you could see her have an influence.
10:01She's a little charismatic, powerful.
10:03Or maybe the prom queen.
10:04Mm.
10:04Yes.
10:05Yeah.
10:06Hopefully they have a little bit more to come than just looks though.
10:08You got to have, you know.
10:10I'm like Sydney Sweeney's prom queen in her sheer dress.
10:12Yeah.
10:13Yeah, she is.
