02:00you are
02:07i don't think i've realized how upscale and how big it is absolutely mental it was amazing i think that was
02:14our first taste where we went okay we can see what we're getting ourselves into there are about 200
02:22million fans worldwide and the industry is estimated to be worth five billion dollars
02:31i think we'll be on a growth trail i think for the next seven eight years hopefully more so
02:36it was mind-blowing the vocals were flawless the dance moves were precise the performance was just
02:52incredible it sort of set the buyer very very high standard
02:59we went backstage to get some tips from some of the k-pop idols who had performed starting with the
03:04incredible prize we'll do our official greeting cool how did you come up with rise as your name our name
03:20is kind of like a combination of the words rise and realize and kind of have like a team bottle sort of
03:29like to rise and realize our dreams in a way cool nice yeah it was cool
03:38and then the legendary 10 from waving came to see us so what was your first experience performing at
03:44like sm town i'm very nervous at first and then with a year after i debuted i become more like comfortable
03:52like on stage so it gets like easier as you go on yes you learn the tips and the tricks after like you
03:58perform like one after another so i feel like you learn along the way yeah definitely one of the most
04:10full-scale concerts i've seen in a while
04:12i'll put it next uh taylor sweat huge huge it was amazing
04:29as we came out we met some fans even though you know we didn't even know it was possible to have
04:34fans before we'd even really started
04:40made i'd say probably all five of us very happy
04:46that was amazing we've met some of our first fans what can we say
04:49on the drive to the house we actually got to uh see soul on the way through it was like something
05:02out of a batman movie
05:09the lights were just insane there's so much life in the city it's amazing but it was also
05:15quite daunting because i haven't actually lived this far away from home before during the time
05:21in korea the boys will be living together in the fashionable soul district of ittawan
05:28okay here we go oh my look in the kitchen yo oh my god yo wow i think i know which room i want already
05:39oh my god the house is so sick downstairs we've got like games room mirrors so we can practice our
05:48dances i'm on the next level hi i'm dexter i'm 22 i've been a performer ever since i was a little
05:58kid and i've been dreaming about doing something like this that's super cute room so i want this one
06:04i can't lie i would say i'm an attention seeker but when i'm performing i definitely want everyone
06:08to look at me yeah i mean who doesn't love loads of people applauding you
06:15it's just fun
06:19ah do you remember this one i was just so proud of you this is how i'd like you to dress all the time
06:26i love the like tank top with the smart trousers
06:29last time in south korea i'll probably miss my mum the most i see her every day in london you
06:33know i live with her spending my time with her so it'll definitely be hard but it's worth it
06:41let me show you what is that wait is that actually someone at the door just looking around the house
06:46and the doorbell rang a lovely lady arrived called joy our translator and she was going to tell us what
06:52was going to be happening over the next 100 days every week you guys are going to prepare a performance
06:56different performance every week and you guys will be evaluated by heejun the head of training
07:01and every trainee goes through her but i do have to let you know that it's not guaranteed that
07:07everyone's going to be there at the end of the program not everybody makes it through the program
07:12yeah wait we're not going to make it because this is going to be cut well i can't really say much
07:20because he's just going to be in charge of evaluating you guys you guys are going to meet her at the end
07:24of the week for your first evaluation what she said about not all of us will make it i'm not feeling
07:31too great wait one of us one of us we're not all we're not going to be one of us we could all be
07:36calm blaze definitely took the news the hardest but that is the business at the end of the day you
07:40know if you if you can't keep up you get cut and that's that's how the industry works indeed it does
07:45the first thing any boy band needs is a sound can you feel the vibes i'm checking how i'm speaking of
07:52sm entertainment believe this song will work for them speaking body language we both understand can
07:58you feel the vibes and this is the choreography they'll be learning to accompany the song
08:09okay let's go
08:14k-pop is technically difficult as the choreography needs to be in perfect unison teaching them the
08:20skills to achieve this is sunshine park
08:28absolutely honestly i'm i am slow at picking up choreo and channel done
08:37i'm james i'm 23. i'm from huddersfield in the uk around sheep and cows let me try that one again
08:44let me run that one around i have a twin brother called lewis we post dance videos online and we
08:50create our own dance trends i think standing now on our main page we have 5.6 million followers
08:59this opportunity is huge i want to learn that's what i want to do i want to learn i want to soak up
09:04everything i can for me dance it's my main discipline which means i can really really appreciate the
09:15sort of intricacies of the movement five and six and seven and eight i'm not super good at picking up
09:26dance i come from all like a singing modeling background one more time sorry
09:33yeah you got it you got it okay yeah um we'll see step and slide off roll and roll kick
09:46right from the start i found the choreo tough free styling is my forte because i struggle to follow
09:51direction i'm very do things on my own kind of a guy i felt a little bit bad for our choreographer
10:08on the first training day i don't think he really worked with a group of boys like us before
10:13our coordination wasn't wasn't great it's about looking like a team and looking the same because
10:18we all have a bit different flavors it's definitely hard um i'm gonna have to put in the work but
10:23yeah it's fun hi i'm ollie i'm 20 years old and i'm from sunderland i went to school in derring
10:31cathedral so i sung in the choir there i've always grown up with just my mom my nana my granddad
10:37look after yourself right now i know that this is your dream yeah you know you'll work hard i think
10:43performing was passed on to me from my mom she used to do a lot of modeling when she was younger and
10:47dancing and you know that we both gotta miss you like soul mother everything all of her acted in
10:54sang danced i was all i'm not bragging but he's good lucky you know and i'm so proud of you always
11:03remember that little darling come here between rehearsals the boys have taken the opportunity to
11:12go out and about around soul to experience the unique world of k-pop culture
11:28their tour guide is local legend the k-pop cowboy
11:40are you guys ready for a k-pop tour okay let's go let's go let's go the k-pop cowboy is a street
11:50interviewer hi i have a question do you guys like k-pop content creator and all-round k-pop enthusiast
11:56so for the tour today we're gonna check out some interesting k-pop spots yeah i'm taking you to
12:02gangnam style statue gangnam style a song about the hipster area of soul was a global hit for k-pop icon
12:10psy in 2012 first you know just like the statue and then go hey hey there you go
12:24also in the gangnam district is soul's answer to the hollywood walk of fame the wall of hands
12:34since you guys are here we can maybe make a wish i wish that we get our hands on one of these walls
12:42yeah how about that i can see it you see that gap just there let's go three two one here we are okay
12:50now let's go to another spot
12:54in korea photo booths are a cultural phenomenon fueled by k-pop that works that works yeah that works
13:01fans have limited opportunities to take photos with k-pop idols
13:09so photo booths are the only way to get a snap with their favorite stuff
13:15everywhere you look in the soul there are these photo booths the people here love them it's like a
13:19massive social thing it's a trend worth millions and thousands of booths have opened across south korea
13:25in the last 10 years across town in young goo is hiker an interactive experience that allows fans to make
13:36their own k-pop videos i'm gonna make you guys do a dance challenge video you're gonna come up with
13:42your own dance moves okay so i'm gonna set you guys into two teams okay how about this you wanty
13:49and i'm gonna give you guys a couple of minutes to come up with the dance are you guys ready okay let's

14:04give these k-pop dance videos a go all right guys this is the subway room do you guys have like a team
14:13name yeah with it with the jolly joe's okay jolly joe's let's go
14:27wiggle wiggle wiggle gangnam style okay let's go check out your dance moves then

14:57oh okay let's see what you got guys
15:11okay guys i have to say that was very impressive i love the dances i'm gonna
15:39raise your hand the winner for this dance challenge is
15:50i'm a very competitive person so winning a dance challenge in the first week as a cleanup
15:54crew was a very nice thing to happen i feel like it was deserved i was gutted i was i was absolutely
16:00gutted yeah
16:05but the boys break from training is short-lived over the next few days their rehearsals become even more
16:12intense
16:17being a trainee is basically a full-time job and the only time you're not training is when you're sleeping
16:23i have never been so tired in my life this was absolutely relentless
16:31drop it
16:33but despite their hard work they're still struggling to crack the choreo
16:38the only you go on to get to liquor step step
16:49no no no
16:51god you go kick step step to count to the one and two that's the count one and two one
16:58and two okay well that's right that's right as ollie struggles in the dance studio reese is struggling in

18:39it made me carry on and keep pushing to to get where i want to be today
18:44i've been a cruise ship dancer for the last eight months but a boy band's always been a dream of mine
18:49wave of the energy when we go all in
18:53k-pop is one of the biggest industries now in the world
18:56the fame the lifestyle is you know crazy good
19:01so for us you know five lads coming out of college into this extraordinary experience is you
19:06know once in a lifetime and it is amazing
19:20with just days to go until their evaluation the band are still failing to dance in unison
19:26all right yeah bye bye
19:27oh my god
19:42does that mean very bad
19:49i feel a little bit stressed
19:51it's not like perfect and perfectly down still making stupid mistakes
19:55eight and one and two and one and two okay
20:00synchronization can be very challenging good communication is really crucial and you really
20:06need to remember that you're working as a part of a team and that just comes from experience and
20:12practicing together
20:14after a tough few days of training the boys are being given a night off to have a night in
20:19hello with shindong from k-pop group super junior

21:57With just two days to go until the Heejeun-yoon evaluation, choreographer Sung Kwon Kim has
22:16been drafted in to help them crack synchronization.
22:19All right, look at each other, go in a circle, facing each other, yeah.
22:36We're one team, right?
22:37We're one team, right?
22:38Mm-hmm.
22:39So, just like this, I'll tell you what's different.
22:46Let's go on there, all right.
22:49We're showing the first part of the beginning of the beat.
22:54Okay, here, here.
22:56Let's go.
22:57Hey!
22:58Hey!
22:59Hey!
23:00Oliver!
23:01Yes.
23:02Wait.
23:03Now what's the...
23:04Wait.
23:05Just wait.
23:06Very simple and casual.
23:07Yeah.
23:08I did feel like I was holding the boys up a little bit in the first week.
23:20They're all such really good dancers, and I just wasn't at that standard.
23:23But I really wanted to be, so I knew I had to put in a lot of work.
23:30While Oli drills down on the details, Blaze has been called in to vocal training.
23:34Every time you move a little closer to me, running through your body like electricity.
23:39It's in the air, but everywhere getting to the beat.
23:41Can you feel the vibe?
23:44I'm Blaze, and I am 19.
23:47I first started performing when I was about seven.
23:50You look very serious, then.
23:52Yeah, I was very serious, I think.
23:55My mum will always say I was really talented at a young age.
23:58I don't think I was.
24:00I could not sing.
24:01When I was younger, I could not dance either.
24:04I auditioned for the Brit School.
24:05I went there from age 14 to 18, and I loved, like, every second of it.
24:11It's getting stronger and stronger.
24:14This is my dream, to be performing on massive stages in front of massive audiences.
24:19I'm expecting a lot of long hours from the training.
24:23The standards are going to be, like, very, very high.
24:26Which is slightly daunting, but very exciting.
24:30Blades is quite a low speaking voice, so I'd say he's more of a baritone.
24:42But the K-pop songs have quite a high vocal.
24:49Can you feel the vibes?
24:51Can, can you feel the vibes?
24:55Okay.
24:57Mm-hmm.
25:02With some band members struggling with the different aspects of K-pop training,
25:06wellness coach Jeannie Chang has been brought in to help them cope with the daily emotional and mental challenges.
25:12Hello.
25:13Hello.
25:14Hi, guys.
25:15So excited to meet you.
25:16Nice to meet you.
25:17I'm here to check up on you guys.
25:18Yes.
25:19Just to make sure you're doing good, you know?
25:21So how was your first week?
25:22How's it been?
25:23Um, it's been really good.
25:25It's been really good.
25:26It's been very intense.
25:27And you say that with a smile.
25:28Yeah, well, it's been, you know, it's been in a good way.
25:30Because, I mean, we're training with, like, the best people.
25:32It's a little mind-blowing training in SM.
25:35They're working with, like, the biggest names in K-pop, and I'm like, oh, wow.
25:39Like, yeah.
25:40This is kind of crazy.
25:41Okay.
25:42It's also, like, they ask us what our favorite, like, K-pop idols are.
25:44Oh, of course they're going to ask that.
25:45And we say something, and they're like, oh, yeah, they're my student.
25:48It's just, like, so casual.
25:49Nuh-uh.
25:50So who is your favorite?
25:51I'm just curious.
25:52I like SM.
25:53I like SM.
25:54Oli loves SM.
25:55I do like SM.
25:56Uh-huh, uh-huh.
25:57I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing how good we get and, like, what SM are going to
26:02create us in two.
26:03Yeah.
26:04We're already really good.
26:05I love that.
26:06But just becoming that, like, so slick and sick.
26:08How are you guys getting along?
26:09Yeah, good.
26:10I think we've all become really close because of how intense the training has been.
26:15Of course.
26:16And we're all going to have to have each of us back.
26:17Because sometimes, like, for me example, like, I'm not getting a move and I'm a little
26:22slower at choreo.
26:23And these boys are like, you all right, man?
26:25Aw.
26:26To me, that's really important because you guys have to lean on each other.
26:28You know, that's the whole K-pop thing.
26:29Yeah.
26:30The group mentality.
26:31On that note, I guess I want to know, do you guys know each other's strengths or your favorite
26:36things about each other?
26:37Ooh.
26:38Rhys.
26:39The most amazing voice.
26:40You are such a handsome man.
26:42He goes about life as if he's in a photo shoot.
26:45He's always smoldering.
26:48Let's talk about Blaze.
26:49He's a little quiet over here.
26:51Blaze, I'd say, is our little dancer from day one.
26:54The little's just unnecessary.
26:56I think just calling me a dancer is nice.
26:58I like the way he scratches his hair.
27:01Yeah.
27:02Hair?
27:03Okay, is that going to be the signature look?
27:05Yeah, look at that.
27:06Wow.
27:07Okay, let's talk about James.
27:08James.
27:09James is very mature.
27:10Okay.
27:11And he's also a very, very kind person.
27:12And an amazing dancer and singer.
27:14Yeah.
27:15What do you enjoy about me?
27:16What do you enjoy about him?
27:17Oh, he's got the best laugh.
27:18You've got a really beautiful sunshiny energy about you, Dexter.
27:21Thank you, James.
27:22But that's great.
27:23So he radiates.
27:24He has a great laugh.
27:25Yeah.
27:26Okay.
27:27That's awesome.
27:28Let's go to Ollie.
27:29Ollie tries hard, always.
27:31Yeah.
27:32So I was going to go on to say, he doesn't call himself a dancer.
27:38You don't call yourself a dancer?
27:39No.
27:40No.
27:41You know, I've danced for a long time, but I just don't have the connection in my body.
27:45I would say, I admire how he's not afraid to put himself out of his comfort zone.
27:49Yeah.
27:50If that was me, I would be like...
27:51I'm very uncomfortable.
27:52I would be stressing.
27:54Okay, so you have your assessment, okay?
27:57Yeah.
27:58So what's that going to be like?
27:59Feeling the pressure a little bit.
28:00It's a plastic...
28:01Because it's not easy to take criticism, right?
28:03Or like that feedback of like, this isn't good.
28:05I'm not intimidated.
28:06I think we will be nervous when we actually go to do it.
28:08Yeah.
28:09I mean, I think that's normal.
28:10We'll get real once we walk in.
28:19Evaluation is just a day away.
28:25This is the last chance for the routine to be perfected with vocal coach Jin Yun-jen.
28:32And everything appears to be in tune.
28:36And everything appears to be perfected with vocal coach Jin-jen.
28:40However...
28:41Can you feel the fire?
28:43Oh, good.
28:44Can you feel?
28:45Feel!
28:46Blaze, that...
28:47I need to hold it a little bit more.
28:50Can you feel?
28:51It sounds like...
28:52My position was horrible, that one.
28:54The first one was bad.
28:56Can you feel the fire?
28:58We're looking towards tomorrow with performances.
29:00We just need to clean up vocals, clean up dancing.
29:03There's a little bit of a disconnect between the two, I'd say, at the moment.
29:08We'll just get better.
29:09Let's just get better.
29:10You wouldn't think we're singers, that's for sure.
29:13We're a unit of five, and so if anyone's struggling with one thing, we're all struggling with that one thing.
29:18Every time you move a little, move, move a little.
29:22Tomorrow's gonna be intense.
29:24We finally just gotta go in there and give everything we've got.
29:30One week into their 100-day training regime, and it all comes down to this.
29:35Yeah, you nervous?
29:37Erm...
29:38A little bit.
29:39Boys, it's good to be nervous.
29:41There's definitely some nerves and some...
29:43A lot of thinking of what-ifs and everything.
29:46Obviously, everyone has a little bit nervous, but I think I'm a little bit intimidated.
29:48I'm a little bit like...
29:49No, I think it'll be alright.
29:50I think we're gonna need dinner.
29:52Look, all we can do is try our very best, put our all into it.
29:55Whatever we leave in that room is left in that room, that's that.
29:58I just wanna get it done now.
30:00Yeah, man.
30:01The anticipation is killing me.
30:02I know.
30:03You're nervous.
30:04You're doing your vocal warm-ups, and me.
30:05I mean, you're pacing, mate.
30:06No, I'm not.
30:07No, I'm not.
30:08No, I'm not.
30:09I'm not nervous.
30:10Mate, I'm not nervous, I'm excited.
30:11I'm excited.
30:12I'm not really that worried, I think.
30:14I'm pretty confident in all of our abilities.

31:01I'll see you soon.
31:12I can feel my heart see sparks when I'm with you, I feel it in my soul, yeah, you know what we gotta do.
31:33You'll have a room so bright, gotta put on shades. Baby, come along, watch me take it away.
31:44Somebody turn up louder to get down for an hour.
31:51She's you and me out on the floor. Let's go a little longer.
31:57It's getting stronger, and stronger, and stronger.
32:01Can you feel the vibe?
32:04Every time you move a little closer to me,
32:06You're running through your body like electricity,
32:09You're sitting there in every way you're hitting the beat.
32:11Can you feel the vibe?
32:13I'm shaking, I'm sticking, I'm just making me dance.
32:16So come on over, come in closer, give me a hand.
32:18Speaking body language so you won't understand.
32:21Can you feel the vibe?
32:25Can you feel the vibe?
32:27Can you feel the wave of the energy when we all want to live?
32:35Together with the way we move when the night is lit, lit.
32:41Somebody turn up louder to get down for an hour.
32:47Just you and me out on the floor.
32:49Just you and me out on the floor.
32:50Let's go a little longer.
32:54It's getting stronger, and stronger, and stronger.
32:58Can you feel the vibe?
33:01Every time you move a little closer to me,
33:03She's running through your body like electricity,
33:06She's beating the air in every way you're hitting the beat.
33:08Can you feel the vibe?
33:09Can you feel the vibe?
33:12Can you feel the vibe?
33:14I'm shaking, I'm shaking, I'm just making me dance.
33:42So come on over, come in closer, give me a hand.
33:45Speaking body language so you won't understand.
33:47Can you feel the vibe?
33:52Can you feel the vibe?
33:57Can you feel the vibe?
34:02Oh yeah.
34:04Oh yeah.
34:05Can you feel the vibe?
34:12Can you feel the vibe?
34:20Beautiful.
34:28This event today,
34:31I felt fun for myself.
34:33What'd you say,
34:34I know where I was just today.
34:38I wanted to be
34:39The best of the best.
34:45I think I can tell you something to make sure to make sure it's going to be a score.
34:48I think I can tell you what it's going to be the highest.
34:52I think it's going to be the highest score.
34:55I think it's going to be a score for 65.
34:58I know I could have given more and cleaner with everything.
35:03For me, I think it would be like 35, 40, about 70 percent, 65 to 70 percent I'd say.
35:17I would say about 70 percent.
35:24I'd say 50.
35:30I think I got like the base of it down.
35:32There's a lot of details and things to make sure it's all perfect.
35:35That I missed out.
36:07The passion.
37:58Heejun
37:59has called
38:00an emergency meeting
38:01the team
38:05이 팀이
38:06하는 환경
38:16이 팀이
38:17인정합니다.
38:26이 팀을
38:28어느 정도의 세력을
38:29괴롭게 할 수 있는
38:30we were terrible we got ripped into in there we expected something like this
38:36just not this brutal I think we've all worked hard this week I've seen us all
38:42working hard I think if anyone took it harder than anyone today it would
38:47probably be be blaze the standard here is you think the top standard in the UK
38:56what that is imagine that times like a thousand we can walk away from this just
39:02knowing the standard knowing how hard we have to work now I don't know what to
39:07think of like what she said to me well that was the best thing around the best
39:11answer because I don't agree so it's like hmm I genuinely wasn't expecting that
39:18today mainly because like through college like in my training I've always kind of
39:25been that guy in the back I was never you know that front center guy up that
39:29they loved and they thought was amazing don't put yourself down about it in this
39:33situation she said that you were the best in both aspects in kpop I've got very
39:40different ideas of a performer and an artist then what is idolized here from
39:48that we can all gauge what what what it means what she's looking for in a kpop idol I'm pretty
39:56confident in my perception of performance and abilities and I know that at heart I'm my own
40:03artist should we go back to what she said she said we need to if you don't agree like what she says
40:10is fact we're in her territory she hates us no 50 minutes later dawn and russ from management return
40:20Wow wow wow yeah yeah yeah well how did you think it went bad idea yeah I think that's been a reality check yeah it was hard
40:40we've got to go away re-evaluate everything the ultimate goal here is to impress region and one of her
40:52notes back to us was I didn't go so hard because I didn't want to make them cry I blaze um look she
41:01doesn't feel that you've listened enough to her today she's so important that when when you are asked or
41:07told something to do you really take it on board we're not going to sugarcoat anything because
41:14there's a lot at stake there's a lot at stake here mediocrity doesn't cut it unless you're the best
41:24they won't put the name to you you have to try harder harder harder next time there's a change to that
41:36will told me bogey a path or not only the ruler and I get that I'm going to tell John we're up to
41:43on a shitty day in so for you for me this is terrifying 500 school kids eyes on me
41:53what we got bro is it comes to life so it's like it's contagious my big insecurity is that I'm not
42:00wanted here to cool up myself and they don't put us on what's in the game good you look at what you
42:08know you got to ask how much I go high to go up so
