00:00This episode is dedicated to a motorcycle that has shaped the history of our brand like no
00:15other. It is the best-selling Ducati of all time. Since its launch, we have produced more
00:20than 350,000. It was also the inspiration for an entire category of motorcycles,
00:25the sport naked category, which is as widespread as it is sought after today.
00:30Young and modern, elegant and sophisticated, it offers sporty yet extremely easy riding in all
00:36conditions. I am therefore very pleased to be able to present the new monster to you today.
00:53In Italy, coffee is a ritual, but not just regular coffee, it is a real Italian ristretto,
00:59just a few drops, but with an explosion of aroma, the essence and energy of a good Italian espresso.
01:05This was the concept we had in mind when we started working on the new monster,
01:09the entire essence of Ducati, the entire essence of the monster in the most compact,
01:14lightest and purest form possible. Here is the new monster. As its name suggests,
01:20monster, nothing else.
01:50The original recipe dates back to 1993, a sporty end of the monster. The original recipe dates back to 1993,
02:18a sporty engine, perfect for road use. Here we have the Test Savior 11 degrees, twin cylinder,
02:264-valve, liquid-cooled, desmodromic valve timing, 111 horsepower.
02:32The second ingredient is a frame derived from a superbike, introduced in 1993. Here we have the
02:38front subframe with the same concept as the Panigle V4. A very short aluminum frame, attached directly to the
02:44headstock, and also very light, allowing us to reduce the dry weight to just 166 kg.
02:51The result of the recipe was and is very simple. A light, compact and advanced motorcycle.
02:58Everything you need to have fun, every day.
03:03Let's talk about the design. It's a monster, but contemporary.
03:06We wanted a modern, non-nostalgic monster, which combines and re-interprets the original recipe with today's tastes.
03:14The tank shape has the classic bison's back shape when viewed from the side.
03:22The headlight is high-tech and very modern. The DRL, the daytime running light, has a circular dog ring pattern.
03:29The inner part is very advanced with a charging module positioned in the middle.
03:35The indicators also have a new design. They are dynamic charging indicators with a wiping effect.
03:42The automatic switch-off function is extremely practical in the city.
03:45The motorcycle detects when the turn has been completed and switches the indicators off automatically.
03:50Lightness, compactness, sleek design. These are the goals pursued by the designers and technicians during development.
04:06The first and most important goal is lightness. Imagine 18 bottles of water and packing them in a backpack.
04:13Then take your motorcycle on a trip. Now, with the new monster, we've gotten rid of that backpack.
04:20The monster weighs 18 kilograms less than the monster 821 in running order.
04:25And lightness is a key element in achieving a light, easy-to-handle and fast motorcycle.
04:31In other words, a motorcycle that's great fun.
04:35But how did we do that? Every new component has been made lighter.
04:39The frame is the component where we have saved the most weight.
04:42As already mentioned, this is a so-called front subframe, like on the Panigle V4.
04:47A very short aluminum frame that is attached directly to the cylinder heads.
04:51The engine is therefore a stressed part of the chassis.
04:53The weight of this frame is only 3 kilograms, i.e. 4.5 kilograms less than that of the monster 821.
04:59A saving of 60%.
05:01The subframe for the seat mount is also high-tech.
05:07It is made of fiberglass, which allows us to optimize the frames and surfaces and, above all, to save a lot of weight.
05:13In this case, the advantage over the monster 821's tubular space frame is almost 2 kilograms.
05:20The engine also contributes to the overall weight reduction of the monster.
05:23Specifically, the saving is almost 2.5 kilograms.
05:28The same goes for the rims and rear wheel swingarm.
05:31Both contribute to a weight saving of almost 2 kilograms each.
05:34The motorcycle is extremely compact.
05:38This can be seen particularly in the so-called bird's-eye view from above.
05:43The sides are very narrow, which is very important, as it allows the rider to easily put their feet on the ground when the bike is stationary.
05:51This advantage is due to the front frame, which is very short and ends at the height of the vertical headrest.
05:57The monster is essential, both in terms of its appearance, which is characterized by simple and clean lines, and from a technical point of view, there are no unnecessary components or frills.
06:12In this case, the monster follows the basic concept of 1993.
06:16We only have the components necessary for riding, the engine, a seat, the tank, the handlebars, nothing more.
06:34The new monster is simple in every situation.
06:37Let's start with the seat.
06:39In standard conditions, the seat height is 820 millimeters from the ground.
06:43Combined with the narrow sides of the bike, it is very easy for the rider to put their feet on the ground.
06:51An accessory seat is also available to reduce the height to 800 millimeters, while maintaining the good padding.
06:59And if all this is not enough, a suspension kit is available to lower the entire vehicle.
07:04The seat height is then reduced to 775 millimeters.
07:08We have increased the steering angle, which is now 36 degrees, 7 degrees more than on the monster 821.
07:18This is important for use in city traffic, as it makes it easier to steer around cars and even difficult maneuvers such as turning are no problem.
07:27The handlebars have been moved about 7 centimeters closer to the rider's torso to achieve a more upright riding position, more comfort and more control.
07:37The position of the feet has also been changed.
07:39The legs are now less pulled in.
07:41The monster is a very sophisticated motorcycle with the latest technology.
07:58It is equipped with the best electronic package in its segment for greater safety, performance and fun.
08:04The motorcycle has the most advanced electronic control systems such as abs and traction control, both with cornering function, i.e. with activation that is modulated according to the lean angle.
08:18And as with the top of the range models, here you will also find wheelie and launch control, to enjoy the fun in complete safety.
08:25The standard quickshifter up and down is a must-have for perfect gear changes without using the clutch.
08:34The monster is equipped with three riding modes to modify both the engine power and the levels of the various electronic control systems, sport, touring and urban.
08:44The instrument panel consists of a TFT color display.
08:50The layout is based on that of the Panigle V4, with a large rev counter and a gear indicator in the center.
08:56These are indicators that you should always keep in mind when riding a sporty style.
09:01And for everyday use, you can equip your bike with the Ducati multimedia system to connect your smartphone to your monster.
09:08The purpose of this bike is quite clear, to have fun while riding.
09:21To achieve this, we have worked on lightness, compactness and aerodynamic design, but also on the engine and chassis.
09:29The engine of the non-monster is the Testistritter 11 degrees, here in the 937cc version.
09:34A larger displacement engine that is lighter than the previous monster's 821cc engine.
09:40The weight saving is around 2.5kg.
09:43The larger displacement has been used to increase the fun.
09:48We have two more horsepower, now it's 111.
09:51But more importantly, we have plenty of torque in the mid and low rev range.
09:55To give you an example, at 6000 rpm we have 20% more torque.
09:59These are the speeds at which you take the bike around corners.
10:02Lots of torque equals lots of fun.
10:04Then we reduce the effort required to use the clutch by 20%.
10:11Riding a bike in the city is now even more fun.
10:15More power, more torque, but a lighter engine with a softer clutch.
10:20The new monster will also be available in a 35kW version, suitable for those with an A2 driving license.
10:27An engine like this deserves high quality components.
10:32The handlebars are made of variable section aluminium to combine lightness, resistance and aesthetics.
10:38The brake system is that of a real sports bike.
10:42The front brake master cylinder is radial, as is the clutch master cylinder, which is therefore hydraulic.
10:49Up front, we have a 320mm double disc with radial bolting and very important metal brake pads.
10:57This allows excellent performance both in sporty riding and on wet asphalt.
11:02The tires are Borelli Diablo Rosso 3, which guarantee excellent grip both in sporty riding on dry and wet roads.
11:11The rear tire has a large section.
11:13To be precise, it is an 1805.
11:17You lift it off the stand and wonder, is something missing?
11:20Then you ride it and it really is.
11:23Very light, responsive and it corners with astonishing ease.
11:28The throttle response is nice and direct and the torque of the twin cylinder will make you smile when the front wheel lifts off the ground.
11:35This is the email that Alessandroia, our fastest test rider, sent me when I asked him how the new monster rides.
11:43Let's recap the monster's key figures.
11:45The maximum power is 111 horsepower.
11:47We have 9.5 kilograms of torque for a dry weight of just 166 kilograms and the Desmo service, the inspection that includes checking the valve clearance, is carried out every 30,000 kilometers.
12:01For those who want a monster with an even sportier image, we have created the plus version.
12:07In this case, the cockpit fairing and the seat cowl are standard.
12:15This completes the range.
12:17Two versions, Monster and Monster Plus, both available in three colors.
12:22Ducati Red, the sporty one, mad black, and the aggressive aviator gray, with fluorescent red circles, the most sophisticated.
12:31Many Ducati performance accessories are available to customize your monster.
12:36For example, the type-approved Terminioni exhaust and carbon silencer, a guarantee of sportiness.
12:42In addition, we have also made many parts from solid aluminum or carbon fiber.
12:48Another example is the painted spoiler in the same color as the body and the engine.
12:53Many accessories that make your monster unique.
12:56The monster is the Ducati symbol of individuality, also in terms of aesthetics.
13:01For this reason, we have developed sticker kits for the aftermarket.
13:07And for those who want an even bigger change, there will be kits made of painted plastic.
13:12Striking graphics that certainly won't go unnoticed.
13:24But now let's see the new monster in action.
13:28The monster is the new monster in action.
