00:00I'm Tom Morris, Jr., and this is Fugitives Caught on Take.
00:27This guy has no regard for anybody else on the road.
00:57In Lone Oak County, Arkansas, where state troopers are in pursuit of a man wanted for assault, who fled a traffic stop and is now driving dangerously.
01:07Earlier, Trooper Jacob Price reported a car driving slowly in the far left lane of a highway for several minutes, violating Arkansas's continued driving law.
01:17He got passed on the right.
01:20The trooper initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over.
01:25But when he exited his cruiser, Trooper Price noticed that the driver had his foot on the brake.
01:31Don't do it, bro.
01:35Put the keys on top of the car.
01:37But the suspect did not comply and fled the scene.
01:41He took off.
01:42He took off.
01:44The trooper hurried back to his cruiser and called it in.
01:48Trying to catch up to him.
01:50Looks like a white male.
01:51Got a tattoo on his face.
01:55It's about a quarter mile in front of me now.
01:57The gray Mercedes.
01:57Traffic's light.
02:01I'm at 120 trying to catch up.
02:03It's passing on his shoulder.
02:04About the 177 looks back.
02:06As the pursuit continues and the suspect increases his speed.
02:11Need to get 140.
02:14Trooper Crossland goes in for a pit maneuver.
02:18And the suspect cuts over and exits the highway.
02:21But Crossland tries again on the ramp.
02:27As they exit the highway, the trooper bumps the suspect.
02:42Who nearly slams into this sign.
02:47Then, on his third attempt, the trooper spins out as the suspect recovers and pulls away.
02:54But trooper Crossland isn't done yet.
02:58He manages to get his cruiser back on the road.
03:01And follows the suspect into the opposite lane of traffic.
03:05Then, about a minute later, with the fugitive's reckless driving continuing to endanger the public,
03:27police make a risky move.
03:29The trooper's pit maneuver sends the suspect spinning off the road where he crashes into this sign.
03:49Additional trooper's arrive.
03:58And quickly get the suspect in cuffs.
04:01The suspect was ID'd as 35-year-old Dominic Copenhaver.
04:19Copenhaver has a criminal history in multiple states, including an open warrant out of Maryland for assault.
04:27He was charged with driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, reckless driving,
04:33fleeing, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.
04:37Copenhaver was released on bond, but after he failed to appear at a hearing,
04:42a warrant was issued for his arrest.
04:44He's pled not guilty to all charges.
04:47And his case is pending.
04:48Next, we're in Ferndale, Michigan, where local PD are in pursuit of a suspect
04:56who just stole a police cruiser and is driving dangerously on the opposite side of the road.
05:03Earlier, Officer Kevin Jerome was at a bus stop speaking to a man who called police about an unrelated incident.
05:10That's when another man at the bus stop got Officer Jerome's attention.
05:15Hey, he's got in your car.
05:16How far?
05:17What?
05:18He's got in your car.
05:256-0 Ferndale.
05:26A girl just got in 6-0 and took off.
05:29Go and go in, Woodward.
05:30A woman hopped into the officer's cruiser with his duty rifle inside and sped away.
05:38A black female walked across Woodward.
05:47She got in the driver's seat and took off northbound on Woodward.
05:51I don't believe it.
05:52Okay, so we have a fully marked 6-0, stolen, northbound, Woodward from Namath.
05:58Now, the dash cam in Officer Jerome's stolen cruiser records the suspect's every move as she runs a red light, nearly hits another car, and then stops just short of hitting a group of pedestrians crossing the street.
06:21Before long, additional officers spot her getting off the highway.
06:29Do report that she's south on 75, approaching 9 miles.
06:33She just got off on 9 miles.
06:35Just got off on 9 miles.
06:37Step 4, exit at 75 at 9 miles.
06:41Now, on local streets, the suspect drives in the middle turn lane.
06:46He's in traffic.
06:49Traffic medium, speed's about 60.
06:53As more officers join the pursuit, the fugitive's erratic driving continues to pose a real danger to the public.
07:02Officers attempt to box her in.
07:05But the suspect evades their moves and speeds away.
07:11We had her locked in for a second.
07:15After blowing through another red light and speeding past this van, the fugitive drives in the opposite lane, where several cars are forced to pull over to avoid a head-on collision.
07:28As she speeds toward a busy intersection, the suspect somehow makes it through unscathed.
07:40Until...
07:41Crashed out.
07:42Stoleful.
07:43She slams into the back of this large SUV.
07:54After the crash, the suspect is able to slow-roll the cruiser up this block.
08:06But she doesn't get far, as officers Justin Harwood and John Heath quickly catch up with her.
08:12Airbags up!
08:13Are you okay?
08:14Get the out of the car now!
08:16Grab it!
08:17Grab it!
08:18Grab it!
08:19Get in the car!
08:20Come here!
08:21Get in the car!
08:22Get in the car!
08:23Come here!
08:24Get on the car!
08:25During the struggle, Officer Harwood's body camera becomes detached and falls to the ground.
08:30Cornelar in custody.
08:32Give me your pants!
08:34What do you got on you shouldn't have?
08:37It's a real wall now.
08:39Do you know how many lives you just put in danger?
08:41I don't know.
08:42Do you know how many people you just put in danger doing this?
08:45Yeah.
08:46Unbelievable.
08:47Who are you?
08:48I'm here.
08:49Tell me why.
08:50Where do you live?
08:51How old are you?
08:52How old are you having fun?
08:55The suspect was ID'd as 24-year-old Destiny Hawkins, who just two hours prior to stealing
09:01the cruiser, was in court for a stolen property case.
09:05Hawkins was hit with a felony charge of auto theft, plus fleeing, eluding, and unlawful
09:10driving away.
09:12She pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to three years probation.
09:17As a result of this incident, the Ferndale Police Department had their squad cars outfitted
09:22with anti-theft systems preventing anyone from illegally driving them ever again.
09:28No officers or civilians were seriously injured during the pursuit.
09:34Next, we're in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, where officers are in pursuit of a suspect whose dangerous driving has caused multiple accidents and forced several drivers off the road.
09:46Earlier, Excelsior Springs PD received multiple calls about a truck pulling a wide load and a man driving erratically sending other vehicles into ditches.
09:57Officer Johanna Robertson and Sergeant Kyle Craven tracked down the truck, which was towing a double-wide mobile home and taking up most of the road.
10:08Now, officers activate their lights and sirens, but the driver does not pull over.
10:26So further up the road, Officer Andrew Stott gets ready to deploy stop sticks at this intersection.
10:32I got sticks.
10:46The stick deployment is unsuccessful as the fugitive and his double-wide load somehow manages to avoid them.
10:54Officer Stott then joins in the pursuit.
10:58Just as the truck makes a left turn and the tail end of the mobile home dips down into a ditch.
11:05The suspect's truck seems to be disabled and the officers spring into action.
11:15Put your hands up!
11:22Hands up!
11:23Turn up!
11:24Turn around!
11:25Turn around!
11:26Turn around!

11:31On the ground!

11:33He's up!
11:34I got him!
11:35What the is going!
11:36He's up!
11:37I got him!
11:38What the is going!
11:39I got him!
11:40What the is going!
11:41A passenger surrenders and is quickly placed in the back of a squad car while officers struggle
11:48to detain the driver.
12:13Officers finally get the driver cuffed and Officer Robertson and Sergeant Craven walk him
12:18over to a cruiser.
12:19Spread your feet!
12:20I can't!
12:21Stop resisting!
12:22I'm not resisting!
12:23What's your name?
12:24My name is Robert Matthew McKenzie.
12:26Did you not see us?
12:27We've been behind you for a long time.
12:28I have no brake!
12:29It's a half-turned truck!
12:30It's a 40,000-pound f****** mobile home!
12:37Come on, people!
12:39As officers are patting down and speaking with the driver, the passenger yells to him from
12:44the back of the cruiser.
12:45Now I love you!
12:47Clear.
12:48Two subjects in custody.
12:49Awesome.
12:50He says he has no brakes.
12:52Yep.
12:53F****** you high-fiving!
12:55The driver, 38-year-old Robert Matthew McKenzie, has a criminal history including convictions
13:02for theft and failure to register a motor vehicle.
13:05He was treated for his injuries and taken back into custody.
13:09McKenzie was charged with resisting arrest, pled guilty, and was sentenced to 180 days in
13:15jail suspended, plus two years probation.
13:18The passenger, who's also the owner of the mobile home, was not charged in this incident.
13:26Excelsior Springs Police reported that, remarkably, no one was injured during this wild highway
13:33pursuit.
13:36Next, we're in Atlanta, Georgia, where police are in pursuit of a fugitive wanted for violating
13:41his probation in an assault and weapons possession conviction.
13:46Earlier, an off-duty officer recognized 25-year-old Damien Davenport when he spotted him riding
13:53a bicycle.
13:55Aside from the assault and weapons convictions, Davenport was also a suspect in a recent machete
14:01attack.
14:02Now, Officers Arian Miles and Malekia Ballard, along with Sergeant Sean Houston and Anthony Tejeron
14:09John, respond to the location and close in on Davenport near a highway overpass.
14:15But the suspect reverses course and pedals away.
14:20Two of the cruisers make U-turns, take a pursuit, and immediately witness Davenport doing something
14:28suspicious.
14:30A trailing officer exits their vehicle, picks up the machete, and then rejoins the chase.
14:43Up ahead, two of the officers close in on Davenport, attempting to block him in.
14:49But the suspect narrowly avoids their trap and rides off again.
14:59They give it another try.
15:01But again, the suspect manages to escape, weaving dangerously into the opposite lane of traffic,
15:07before moving onto the sidewalk.
15:10Officers react quickly to block his path.
15:13But suddenly, he disappears from view.
15:16This officer opens their door and sees the bike on the ground.
15:31But it doesn't take long before officers have their fugitive in custody.
15:37In addition to the machete he discarded during the pursuit, officers also found a knife on Davenport.
15:43He was transported to a hospital, treated for some minor injuries, and then booked into Fulton County Jail.
15:50No officers were injured during the incident.
15:53For that day's events, Davenport was charged with riding a bicycle on the right side of the roadway,
15:58willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and other charges.
16:03He accepted a deal, pleading guilty to all of his new charges in exchange for the court waiving any costs or fines.
16:10He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 60 days credit for time served, followed by one year probation.
16:17As for the machete case, Davenport was charged with battery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife,
16:25and that case is pending.
16:27For his assault and weapons case, Davenport's probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to six months in jail.
16:36Next, we're in Akron, Ohio, where police are chasing an unusual suspect wanted for causing a public disturbance.
16:45Earlier, dispatch received several 911 calls from concerned drivers about a mysterious figure lurking on the side of a local highway.
16:54Akron 911, what's the location of your emergency?
16:57I'm driving on Route 8.
16:59I'm not sure.
17:01It's either a deer or a dog.
17:03It's alive.
17:04It just crossed the highway into the median.
17:07A couple people almost lost control.
17:09Hi, I'm on Route 8, and there's like a lamb that just walked out in the middle of the five-lane traffic.
17:16All these cars are spinning.
17:18Did you say a lamb?
17:19At first I thought it was a doodle.
17:21Yeah, it doesn't look like we're getting another call about this, actually.
17:24Are you having an emergency?
17:25It's a loose dog on the Route 8.
17:28He's sitting on the side of the, on the shoulder.
17:31Officers were quickly dispatched to the area where they find the four-legged fugitive walking along the median side of the highway.
17:40The officers encounter a lone female goat, and before long they make their move.
17:49But so does the goat.
17:53Vehicles whiz by, some nearly hitting the lost goat.
17:59Somehow she avoids getting hit and returns to the median.
18:04And this time, instead of running, the officers calmly walk toward her.
18:10But just as they start to get close, she makes another, even more dangerous move.
18:22While running along the median, the goat suddenly darts back into traffic, stopping abruptly in the far-right lane and almost getting hit by this car.
18:32Come here! Come here!
18:35And then, bolting back to the median and barely avoiding another speeding car.
18:42Soon, backup arrives and helps block traffic as officers give it another try.
18:49This time with a collar and some rope.
18:52And after one more failed attempt, this officer is finally able to corral the wayward nanny in a wooded area on the shoulder of the highway.
19:02With some additional help from a good Samaritan, officers quickly get a collar around the goat, and after taking a moment to comfort the anxious animal, they move her to the back of a cruiser and celebrate.
19:19Now you guys have to interview him.
19:26Freedom is random.
19:28Later, a local rescue group picked up the goat and took it to a farm and gave it a new and very appropriate name.
19:36And by all accounts, Fugitive is adjusting well to her new home, despite its bad experience on the land.
19:45In fact, after the video of Fugitive's adventure corralled the spot on the late show with Stephen Colbert, it went viral.
19:52Whoa!
19:54Extending her 15 minutes of fame.
19:57Oh God!
19:58Thanks for watching.
19:59Fugitives caught on tape.
20:00I'm Tom Morris Jr., and we'll see you next time.
