00:01The UK and Ireland are set to host Euro 2028, which will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year
00:07and bring thousands of football fans from all across Europe to cities across the British Isles.
00:12Cardiff is one of the host cities, with games set to take place in the Principality Stadium,
00:16the second biggest host stadium behind Wembley,
00:19and there is some hope that the venue will play a bigger role than most through the tournament.
00:25The opening ceremony is a big event which will go along with the opening game of the tournament
00:29and Senedd members have hinted that they are confident that the Welsh capital will be the location of the curtain opener.
00:36The Principality Stadium has played host to all number of massive sporting events,
00:40in particular the Champions League final back in 2017 when Gareth Bale's Real Madrid side won Europe's Premier Cup competition,
00:47so it will be no stranger to the big stage if it were to host the opening ceremony.
00:51Nothing is confirmed but at a Senedd meeting on May 20th,
00:55Conservative MS Samuel Kurtz said that as well as hosting six matches of the tournament,
01:00Cardiff will also be hosting the opening ceremony.
01:03The Football Association of Wales have not confirmed any of this and neither have UEFA,
01:08but the BBC have reported a source from within the FAW have said they are very confident of hosting it.
01:14The tournament will be the first to have four hosts, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England,
01:18with Northern Ireland pulling out of the competition and has meant automatic qualification for hosts is not guaranteed.
01:24But if one of the countries do not automatically qualify, there will be two slots available if the hosts aren't one of the 24 qualifiers.
01:31Euro 2028 is set to be a massive event and will take over Cardiff like other events have in the past
01:36and with a possible home crowd, the Welsh side will be looking for a 2016 repeat. Have some faith.
