For such a big guy, the T-Rex's arms are comically short, but have you ever wondered why?
00:09
Well, researchers from UC Berkeley may have a theory, and it's almost as funny as the T-Rex's arms.
00:14
Author of the paper, Integrated Biologist Kevin Padian, believes it could have to do with accidental bites.
00:19
The T-Rex's jaw is sort of its defining feature, but its size may have meant it could have been a danger to both friend and foe.
00:26
With the study suggesting the arms were short to protect them from accidental bites from family and friends.
00:31
Here's how Padian describes it in the new study.
00:33
What if several adult tyrannosaurs converge on a carcass?
00:36
You have a bunch of massive skulls with incredibly powerful jaws and teeth, ripping and chomping down flesh and bone right next to you.
00:42
What if your friend there thinks you're getting a little too close?
00:44
They might warn you away by severing your arm.
00:46
So it became evolutionarily beneficial to keep your digits away from your food, where hundreds of foot-long teeth were chowing down.
00:53
Padian says the trick now is to find some evidence that might support this hypothesis.
00:57
Saying T-Rex fossil records could reveal less bite marks on its tiny arms versus the rest of its massive body.
01:03
Having a non-teleptive body.
01:07
At the same time.
