Roque ensures price freeze of basic commodities in Cebu City supermarkets

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque inspects supermarkets in Cebu City on Nov. 13, 2025 to ensure compliance of the price freeze on basic necessities. Roque checked the prices of essential goods and confirmed that most items were sold within or below the regulated limits. The price freeze, implemented under a state of calamity following Typhoon Tino, will remain in effect for 60 days unless lifted earlier by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. DTI also checked Noche Buena items, which are expected to be in high demand during the holiday season.

00:00Basic necessities and prime commodities, actually, mas mababa po siya kaysa sa presyo set by the DPI.
00:07So, okay po yung presyo nila dito.
00:09So, nung meron tayong mga, we should check the DPI's website to be able to know the prices set by the DPI
00:20sa basic necessities and prime commodities.
00:22Wala po tayong price increase for the next 60 days kasi nag-declare po ang ating Pangulo
00:27ng state of calamity for the whole country.
00:30So, that means sa presyo ng basic necessities and prime commodities, wala pong price increase for the next 60 days.
00:45na yung mga prices ng Noche Buena package, most of them, wala po ang price increase from last year.
00:53Nag-retain lang po kung magkano yung presyo last year, yun din yung presyo this year.
01:11Pero most within the range lang po yan ang 1 to 6 percent.
01:15Pero karamihan po are the same price set by the DPI upon the instructions of the President na dapat wala po tayong price increase for basic necessities and prime commodities for the next 60 days.
01:30Secretary Cristina, Guia Navarro po from CTN 47.
01:46When we went to Talisay, dun kami sa Gaisano supermarket, dun kami nauna.
01:50Since alam rin po natin na Talisay was badly hit by the typhoon.
02:21The DPI will really enforce the rule of law sa kanila.
02:32But definitely, there will be.
02:34We know, ma'am, this grocery like this are supplier din ng mga maliliit na sarsary store.
02:43No, DTI just requires the groceries and supermarkets to make sure that the prices for basic necessities and prime commodities must be followed.
03:08Yes, actually araw-araw po sinacheck ito because in DTI, meron po tayong department that solely does this one.
03:17Actually, that's the Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Department.
03:21Yun lang po ang ginagawa nila to check the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities on a daily basis
03:27and to check also the prices of other items na kailangan nakamandato po sa DTI.
03:49kasi the lower your price, the more competitive you become
03:58So, they try to, how does that reach that price?
04:02Of course, they try to get a lower cost of raw materials.
04:05They try to bring down the different costs that it takes to produce the items.
04:10So, that's how they're able to really reach a lower price than actually the competitors
04:15or lower price yet by the DTI.
04:18Kung misan, binababa rin nila yung profit nila para lang to get the bigger market share.
04:40Kung misan, binababa rin nila yung profit nila para lang to get the big market share.
04:46Ya!
04:48Kung misan, binababa rin nila para lang to get the good market share.
04:52Kung misan, binababa rin nila para lang to get the big market share.
