00:00Hello!
00:02Come here, girl. Come, come, come.
00:04Stay!
00:05We are their caregivers and trainers
00:08and basically we look after their need.
00:11Come on, girl. Come. Come, Luzo. Come, come.
00:13Good, girl. Good, girl. Sit.
00:19Hi, guys. This is Warren Officer Daya here
00:21from Singapore Civil Defense Force.
00:23I've been here for about 15 years.
00:25Currently, I'm a search specialist under DART K9 unit.
00:28Go, go.
00:29Currently, I handle two dogs. One is Rizzo, the Black Labrador.
00:32Rizzo is for USA Operations, which is Urban Search and Rescue.
00:37The other one is COPE, which is Springer Spanier.
00:40COPE is for FI, FI Investigation.
00:43So, over here as officers, we train them, feed them,
00:46and we basically have to look after them.
00:49Other than this, we do have to do policy work
00:53and attend seminars as well.
00:55In this 15 years, one thing I've come to realize is that
00:59teamwork is a huge component of it.
01:01Be it be the younger colleagues or the older ones,
01:04everybody is willing to share and everybody is willing to listen.
01:07Plus, I've also acquired a couple of valuable skill sets such as life saving.
01:13And that's why I feel the ICDF is the right fit for me.
01:16Come on, girl. Let's go. Time to go and rest.
01:20The funny story is one day my mum called,
01:23and she was talking to me about the fire which actually happened at my neighbour's house.
01:27She said that the fireman came and then helped to put out the fire,
01:30and then actually brought them down to safety.
01:32So, my mum was telling me,
01:34boy, why don't you try considering this job?
01:37You know, you might like the excitement and the adventure.
01:40And I thought to myself, okay, why not?
01:43Then another friend of mine told me that in order to find out
01:47what is it like to be a fireman, you need to speak to a fireman.
01:50So, that's what I did.
01:51I walked into a fire station and I spoke to a fireman.
01:54And that's how I ended up as a fireman.
01:58Hop!
02:02Good girl, good girl. Good girl.
02:05Come.
02:08One of the memories which left an impression on me
02:10was when we were on an overseas mission.
02:12A local who was performing a rescue op over there
02:15was actually only wearing a singlet,
02:18a pair of slippers, and an N95 mask.
02:21It made me realise how lucky we are to have all these resources
02:24for us to do a successful mission.
02:26And for that, I'm actually very thankful.
02:30After I graduated from Polytechnic,
02:31I joined Singapore Civil Defence Force as a fire and rescue specialist.
02:35Spent six months in Civil Defence Academy as a trainee.
02:38Spent like three to four years as a sergeant,
02:40then became a staff sergeant,
02:42and then in 2019, I became a promoter as a warrant officer.
02:45So, I spent about seven years in fire station,
02:47and then another seven to eight years over here at Search Platoon.
02:51So, currently I'm on office hours,
02:53which I really do appreciate
02:55because I can get to spend a little bit more time with my family
02:58during the weekends as well.
03:00But we are on 24 hours activation
03:03due to the nature of our operations.
03:11Stay.
03:12The reason why I joined Singapore Civil Defence Force
03:15is to help people in any way I can.
03:18So, my advice for those people who want to sign on
03:21in Singapore Civil Defence Force
03:23is for you to go and do your proper research.
03:26Read the career e-booklets from SCDF,
03:29visit the fire stations on the open house on Saturdays,
03:32and speak to people who are already serving
03:35in Singapore Civil Defence Force.
03:36All this will enable you to make a sound decision.
03:39At this call, for me, this job is about being able to help people,
03:43being part of a team,
03:45and trying to find purpose in my everyday action,
03:47and that's why I signed on the dotted line.
