00:00Let's get back, Sean!
00:02This is how we get back, bro!
00:04Let's play in the game!
00:06Go, go, go, go!
00:08Go Kiera, go Kiera!
00:10Hey!
00:12Oi, oi!
00:14Hey!
00:16Hey!
00:18Hey, hey, hey!
00:20Now he wants to fight!
00:22Come on!
00:24Now he wants to fight!
00:26Come on!
00:30Can you do me one favour? Just do two claps.
00:32Okay.
00:44Alright, Eric!
00:46What is SNL?
00:48SNL stands for Saturday Night Live.
00:50We played together for a very, very long time.
00:52The core of us have been together since secondary school.
00:54Together with friends we met in Poly, in JC.
00:58We played football together every Saturday, and we became good at it.
01:01We started joining League.
01:02Off the field, we are close.
01:04We are good friends.
01:06SNL is all about the friendship.
01:08Our bond actually transcends football.
01:12Everybody gets busy in life, but football on a Sunday, you know, you turn up, you can see your old friends.
01:16And you can rekindle all the old memories, the jokes.
01:19And you feel like a kid again, right?
01:21I think without SNL, we have nothing to look forward to.
01:23No football.
01:24And then, life becomes sad, yeah.
01:28In the exit currently, there are 27 teams.
01:30It is split into three divisions.
01:32Div 1, Div 2, Div 3.
01:34Div 1 is the top division.
01:36Each division, there will be nine teams.
01:38Currently, we are playing in Division 1, and we were the champions for last season.
01:42They embody everything that a team is supposed to be like in the traditional sense.
01:52A close-knit group.
01:57My name is Mar Ramadan.
01:58I play as a midfielder.
02:01What a find, man.
02:02One of the only players I see from midfield gets the ball and goes for a shot right away.
02:06Confident.
02:07Reminds me of Gerard.
02:08He is a technically gifted player.
02:10It's like a complete package to me.
02:12Can attack, can defend, strong on the ball.
02:15He's got a great character.
02:16He knows that to be a part of this team, you need to be one of us instead of being a star player.
02:21He's very happy to be a part of the team, to put in the hard work, to do the runs,
02:25and to chip in with the goals whenever necessary.
02:35That's why we love him so much.
02:37How do you come to be involved with SNL?
02:42It goes back to when I first came to Singapore in mid-July of 2024.
02:48I found him off Facebook Marketplace.
02:50No, I'm just kidding.
02:51There's this SG amateur football group which I'm in.
02:53There was once where we were lacking players in the team.
02:58Derek went onto some Facebook group for Singapore football.
03:03And posted my situation in there, describing myself and what I was looking for, and Derek reached out.
03:11Derek was like, okay, he looks like he can fit into how we play.
03:14So we got connected, exchanged a few messages, and then I think the following week I was already playing for them.
03:23Let's move on to Maverick.
03:25Maverick?
03:26Oh, I would say if Derek is hard working, Maverick is about three times more than that.
03:32I'm Maverick.
03:36I play fullback for SNL FC.
03:40He's fast, aggressive.
03:43He adds the spice.
03:45Sometimes football gets serious, but you need that little fun in the game.
03:48He's a happy-go-lucky guy, so everything that he does, he does for the fun of it.
03:52He offers the legs to cover the ground.
03:54Anyone you ask in a team, they'll say that Maverick plays with a lot of heart, just like I do.
03:58I guess it's the nature of the Lin Brothers.
04:01As I grow older, I play more, I have more experience, and I know what I'm capable of, but it can definitely be better.
04:08After he was in the team, Derek found out about his situation.
04:24Your rice looks more than mine.
04:27Seems like the girl gave you more for free than me.
04:32Were there any, like, Singaporean things here that were climatized environment?
04:37Some local orders for coffee, and definitely the swear words, the curse words, yeah.
04:43All the Hawkins ones especially, let him know what it's about, yeah.
04:46Then when I go out with him, I have to climatize him to just letting him know
04:52girls here are actually not that aggressive, it's only towards him.
04:57His brother, well, I asked him for work, because I wanted to stay in Singapore permanently.
05:03And he told me for my background, and I said I studied business and German, and he told me that Maverick works in a German firm.
05:11So, one thing led to another, and here we are, doing an internship in a, I guess, it's not really a German firm.
05:20No, it's not, Derek gave you the wrong thing for sure.
05:22Yeah, but these things have a funny way of working out.
05:30So, it was initially my father's work, he's in academia, and he got a full professorship here, and my mum and my younger brother and myself, we helped for their relocation here.
05:42And since I graduated, I haven't had any serious work opportunities, so I decided to come here to Singapore and try my luck here.
05:50And at the same time, my boss came up to me and said she needed an intern for our company in the sustainability sector.
05:57Then I was like, oh, I have someone on my football team, and he's looking to just, yeah, get into sustainability as well.
06:03He had a chat with Maro, really liked his personality, that he came in.
06:08Yeah, I mean, it's definitely been the biggest cultural shock I've had so far.
06:13I've lived in a few countries in Europe, most recently in America as well, for my studies, university studies.
06:19And I must say the integration into Singaporean life has been the most challenging.
06:27Every aspect of the culture here is different to something that I've experienced before.
06:32From the way people interact, both in the professional setting and personal setting, is very unique.
06:41And then all the way to the things like football, the food, is something that I've never experienced before.
06:48So it's been challenging.
06:50It's a funny combo, Maverick and Maro.
06:53Maro came to us, I think, late last year.
06:55I'm happy that Maverick is here to guide him.
06:57I think he started an internship because of Maverick.
06:59So I think it's a really nice way to see how football connects people.
07:04And they are inseparable.
07:09He is definitely a very good friend.
07:11Could see him as almost like a family as well, for Derek and I, like another brother of ours.
07:16Whenever I go out with friends, I'll bring him out to meet more people because it's hard for him to meet people of our age group.
07:22For Chinese New Year, we had him over for reunion dinner as well as some of the visiting as well.
07:34Our workplace environment or atmosphere is fairly different.
07:41The demographic tends to be a bit older.
07:44So we tend to gravitate to each other not only because of football, but also because of that fact.
07:48We get along quite well.
07:50I mean, I've had a few nights out as you've seen with Maverick and he's really helped me adapt and gave me some pointers about what Singapore is like and the culture.
08:01So our relationship has definitely grown.
08:03So actually, I'm coming to the end of my internship.
08:08I have two more weeks left and I will most likely or definitely actually be going back to Croatia at the beginning of March and try my luck there to find full-time work.
08:20I found it quite difficult to find a working opportunity here in Singapore because of the various restrictions and requirements for foreign workers and expats.
08:30So, you know, hopefully in the future with the few years of experience, I'll maybe get a better chance of coming back to Singapore to find the permanent work.
08:40Yeah, we didn't manage to get him a job.
08:43I told him to try out for A&F modelling but he didn't want to.
08:46He wanted to use his brains instead of just his bronze.
08:50Everyone, especially SNL and my sister-in-law as well, everyone is looking for opportunities for him.
08:58We've tried to line up a few interviews but nothing came out of it.
09:02So, it's a massive loss but there's nothing that could be done.
09:07Yeah.
09:08And so, you know, I won't close the door after Singapore.
09:11My parents are still here and I definitely will be returning in the near future even if it was for holidays.
09:17So, yeah, we'll see. I have no idea. I don't think they're far ahead.
09:22Today we're playing BFA. They're a very strong team. Full of flair, full of technical abilities. They're quite physical as well.
09:35So, it's something that we've played them four times. Every game is quite tough to be honest.
09:41Yeah.
09:42I think the team I like playing most against is BFA.
09:47One of the best technical teams in X-Lit.
09:50Plenty of hearts.
09:51Games with them are always tough. They give it their all, you know.
09:54So, yeah, they're dangerous.
09:55Actually, that's mine. Leave it first. Leave it first. We do the talk first.
09:58Okay, listen up. Today is Maro's last game.
10:01First of all, Maro, I'd like to thank you for being a part of the family.
10:05All right. Maro, get a few words for us.
10:09Okay, thank you guys. I don't want to cry before the game, but thank you very much.
10:13And it's really unbelievable our six months.
10:16All I want to say is before the game, it's a new league, a new beginning.
10:20And really, it's just another day at the office. Another day to take care of business and continue to grind.
10:24But thank you very much again, and let's give it our roll today.
10:28Let's go, boys. Come on. Thank you for what you've done for us.
10:30And I hope you really had a great time here.
10:33SNL on three. One, two, three. SNL! Let's go!
10:43I think SNL, we're a team that adapts to the opponent.
10:47And we play a fast-paced, dynamic game.
10:52The two words, team spirit, it had never really been said by SNL players until Maro came along.
10:59And that's when it really made me realise why Meda was so strong.
11:04Much more than the resilience, much more than the drive to win.
11:07It was the team spirit that the whole team has.
11:11BFA, I think they are one of our biggest rivalries.
11:14BFA actually came in second, behind us last season.
11:18They are one of the teams that always attack us, so they leave space behind.
11:21And it plays to SNL's strengths.
11:24Attacking-wise, I mean, really a big threat.
11:27Wow, Tiki Taka, Flare players.
11:33I think what we need to watch out for is keeping our shape together.
11:37Because their movement, their passing, they're really on a level.
11:43So one mistake will get punished, and that's what this league has always been about.
11:46How's the game going so far?
11:50It's good, we're leading 1-0.
11:52Hope to keep it up.
11:53If things go our way, we should be able to execute a victory.
11:56The game against BFA, we started very strong.
12:03We scored very early on, however we failed to capitalize on our chances.
12:07In the second half, BFA started getting more aggressive.
12:18It was a very intense match.
12:20More intense compared to previous season.
12:22I'm not sure why it was over.
12:24Emotions started boiling over.
12:26And the situation got out of hand a bit.
12:29We knew it was Maros very well, and maybe that played a little bit on the emotional side of the game.
12:38We wanted to give him a good standoff.
12:40So we tried to do a little bit more than usual.
12:46It didn't turn out the way that we expected.
12:49Luckily this is when emotions get the best out of us.
13:19Hey!
13:20Hey!
13:21Hey!
13:22Hey!
13:23Hey!
13:24Hey!
13:25Hey!
13:26Hey!
13:27Hey!
13:28Hey!
13:29Hey!
13:30Hey!
13:31Hey!
13:32Hey!
13:33Hey!
13:34Hey!
13:35Hey!
13:36Hey!
13:37Hey!
13:38Hey!
13:39Hey!
13:40Hey!
13:41Hey!
13:42Hey!
13:43Hey!
13:44Hey!
13:45Hey!
13:46Hey!
13:47Hey!
13:48Hey!
13:49We are not afraid to tell each other off, and that's when you know you're really good friends.
13:55If you're not playing well, you get a kick up your ass or something, we will tell each
13:59other straight up to your face.
14:00When we want to win the game too much, then we stop playing football.
14:03I mean football is like that, you know, when two competitive teams come together, and it's
14:07part of the game.
14:08Second half, winger snowball.
14:10I need my midfield, my defence, send it to a wide.
14:13The second half, we're not even playing, we're not playing, send it along.
14:16Alright, come, we can do it, come on, let's go ahead, let's go ahead.
14:24I think everybody was quite rolled up.
14:26I think that's why we stopped playing football.
14:29When we got back our composure, BFA started getting more control of the game.
14:33It took too long to take our goal kick and it was intercepted by the opponent, which gave
14:37them an open goal to shoot against Luck.
14:46When we considered their goal, it was a very hard blow.
14:56We can't always be waiting all the time.
14:58It's important that we pick something out of it.
15:00Yeah, there was some expectation, unfortunately we couldn't do it for Marlo.
15:28That was a regretful part.
15:31When we lose our emotions, things don't always turn sideways.
15:41Sorry Marlo, we couldn't get a win on your last game, but at least we didn't lose.
15:46At least you scored again.
15:47Yeah, and you scored again.
15:49First 25, I think it's the best we've ever played since I've been at SNL.
15:54It's one of the best teams in the league.
15:56We absolutely dominated first 25.
15:57It's a shame we couldn't score more.
16:02Football, man.
16:06A few of the things that I would miss the most is definitely the weather.
16:08And then it's the people.
16:10I think any place is made by the people you interact with and the relationships you have.
16:14So definitely a big part of those people are from SNL.
16:28What I will miss most about Marlo is besides his presence is our mentor and his very laid-back personality.
16:37We will keep in contact for sure.
16:56You know, I think this has been a great experience and I'm sure I'll be back even if my future doesn't...
17:00or isn't in Singapore.
17:02But, uh...
17:04Yeah.
