00:32and personality five boys were chosen the last performance now give it your all they are reach

00:39james dexter blaze and ollie the aim was to create a new k-pop inspired british super group we're

00:50looking for a boy band that can take over the world k-pop first out of south korea in the early 1990s

00:57and changed the music landscape forever it's a hybrid ranging from pop to rmb to hip-hop to rock to edm

01:07it's also a very visual genre fancy outfits highly choreographed dash routines it's now become a

01:15global phenomenon in 2023 six of the top 20 best-selling artists in the world were k-pop

01:23and 90 billion streams were by k-pop idols blackpink have been awarded mbes by king charles

01:29espers sold out the o2 17 have taken glastonbury by storm

01:36and one of the biggest k-pop festivals is sm town with 120 000 fans

01:43that is the boys first stop on their k-pop adventure

01:46we left here fro it was rainy gray and cold and we got on a plane 14 hours later

02:11absolutely mental it was amazing i think that was our first taste where we went okay

02:17there are about 200 million fans worldwide and the industry is estimated to be worth five billion

02:36it was mind-blowing the vocals were flawless the dance moves were precise the performance was just

02:52incredible it sort of set the buyer very very high standard

02:59we went backstage to get some tips from some of the k-pop idols who had performed

03:03starting with the incredible prize we'll do our official greeting

03:17how did you come up with rise as your name our name is kind of like a combination of the words rise

03:24and realize and we kind of have like a team bottle sort of like to rise and realize our dreams in a way

03:38and then the legendary 10 from waving came to see us

03:42so what was your first experience performing at like sm town i'm very nervous at first and then

03:49like a year after i debuted i become more like comfortable like on stage so it gets like easier as

03:54you go on yes you learn the tips and the tricks after like you perform like one after another so i feel

04:00like you learn along the way yeah oh wow definitely one of the most full-scale concerts i've seen in a while

04:29as we came out we met some fans even though you know we didn't even know it was possible to have

04:34fans before we'd even really started

04:40made i'd say probably all five of us very happy

04:46that was amazing we've met some of our first fans what can we say

04:49on the drive to the house we actually got to uh see soul on the way through it was like something

05:09the lights were just insane there's so much life in the city it's amazing but it was also quite daunting

05:16because i haven't actually lived this far away from home before during the time in korea the boys

05:22will be living together in the fashionable soul district of ittawam

05:39already the house is so sick downstairs we've got like games room mirrors so we can practice our

05:48dancers i'm on the next level hi i'm dexter i'm 22 i've been a performer ever since i was a little

05:58kid and i've been dreaming about doing something like this that's a cute room so i want this one i can't

06:04like i would say i'm an attention seeker but when i'm performing i definitely want everyone to look

06:09at me yeah i mean who doesn't love loads of people applauding you it's just fun

06:51she was going to tell us what was going to be happening over the next 100 days every week you

06:55guys are going to prepare a performance different performance every week and you guys will be

06:59evaluated by heijun the head of training and every trainee goes through her but i do have to let you

07:05know that it's not guaranteed that everyone's going to be there at the end of the program

07:10not everybody makes it through the program

07:14yeah wait we're not going to make it is this is going to be cut well i can't really say much because

07:21he's just going to be in charge of evaluating you guys you guys are going to meet her at the end of

07:25the week for your first evaluation what she said about not all of us will make it i'm not feeling

07:31too great wait one of us one of us we're not only one of us we could all be cut blaze definitely took

07:38the news the hardest but that is the business at the end of the day you know if you if you can't keep

07:41up you get cut and that's that's how the industry works indeed it does the first thing any boy band needs

10:16looking like a team and looking the same because we all have a bit different flavors it's definitely

10:20hard um i'm gonna have to put in the work but yeah it's fun hi i'm ollie i'm 20 years old and i'm from

10:28sunderland i went to school in derring cathedral so i sung in the choir there i've always grown up with

10:34just my mom my nana and my granddad look after yourself right now but know that this is your

10:40dream yeah you know you'll work hard i think performing was passed on to me from my mom she

10:45used to do a lot of modeling when she was younger and dancing and you know that we're both gonna miss

13:20social thing it's a trend worth millions and thousands of booths have opened across south korea in the last
