00:40other half of that well hi guys it's st. Nick here welcome to my crazy Christmas basement let's take

00:58a tour I'm 26 and I still live here with my parents down here usually is at least half of

01:04the year is decorated everybody's bathroom needs ceramic trees we got them everywhere I was born

01:10on Christmas Day so the first night of my life I was literally put in a Santa hat and a Santa outfit

01:15right at the hospital so I go by st. Nick here is my crown jewel of trees it's a white bottle brush tree

01:23which is really really hard to find this came straight out of a drugstore so I'm thinking it's

01:28at least 50 years old over here is like another crown jewel this was only made for about two or

01:34three years and it actually starts off snowing I could show you right here the snow gets sucked up

01:40from the bottom and then blows through the whole tree like it's snowing I'll probably never get rid of

01:46my stuff because I am so obsessed with collecting it makes me all bubbly I feel like a kid again so

01:52anytime I could feel that way in this crazy world I will and I'll never let anybody tell me otherwise

01:57usually every garland is covering every little edge see how there's a couple edges over on that window

02:03there they cover every single edge I hate seeing edges if I go in your house I will be judging your tree

02:09not you physically but your tree you got to see my bedroom go on in here is my really really special

02:19stuff anything that could break and I don't want anybody touching I keep behind these doors

02:23oh and speaking of cool things this is my idea of my dream house but in little miniature scale

02:32the wallpaper is actually real wrapping paper from the 1960s and why not you got to have the elf

02:38going to the bathroom isn't he precious I love him every night I sit in this bed and I get to have

02:44the view of this entire crazy Christmas extravaganza so you could just sit here and relax and look at all

02:51the really cool shiny stuff isn't it cool look this tree took me eight hours wow and it keeps not moving

03:01wait watch wait wait wait she spins just very uh not consistently isn't it nice I used to just sit

03:15home and just strictly play with Santa Clauses but once I met him I finally actually uh found out what

03:21a social life is you used to just strictly play with Santa Claus I did I did I'm only like 50% done

03:27with this room to normal people this is done there's literally 20 snowman that go on that couch do they

03:34look like they're there look at how cute that is he's definitely obsessed he's in his own little world

03:4224 7 then he definitely misses out on a lot of stuff but whatever he sets his mind on is what he's gonna

03:50do until he gets it done why are you looking at it like that stop it's freaky freaking cool

03:55all right let's go look for the Santa I don't know exactly where it is but we're gonna find it anytime I'm

04:09free I will always want to be out in my workshop fixing refurbishing repainting just getting stuff

04:16ready for this holiday season especially if you have as many projects as I do it's pretty much a

04:20never-ending cycle I had a Santa that I already started to rehab a couple months ago so I have to find

04:26this Santa Claus and get it going Nicholas when are we gonna put this stuff away look at it isn't that

04:33so nice Nick is my youngest of seven as a kid he always was a collector and it's never gonna stop I

04:41just wanted my red still put them away please I know I'll get there we're in the middle I do

04:47construction which is also kind of a creative outlet you get to build nail create paint a lot of the

04:53times I'm painting which I find very relaxing so exactly what does it look like and what is it in

04:59it's in a box and it's got a red suit I'll pick anything off the shelf that I feel is in that

05:05category okay okay you go that way you go that way look in a box that doesn't have blow molds like

05:13this see it's all stacked my barn is sort of an organized mess it's 40 by 80 and I specifically

05:19wanted the 16-foot ceiling so that I could put all of my giant things just straight in there

05:24is this Pinocchio what the hell is this that ain't going nowhere that used to hang on State Street in

05:29Chicago there's just so much stuff overflowing if somebody steps on something I got probably a

05:33hundred more of them what is that is that a banana okay oh it's batty bear what is this I created that

05:43thing in high school it's hair is falling off it's terrifying oh no oh it it's definitely hoarding

05:48but cool stuff is it really hoarding if it's cool and people think it's cool that's the real question

05:54this is a bag of that stuff leave that that's all craft stuff it's a bag of bags okay can we get the

06:01bigger stuff out of the way please Nick's collection has cost him upwards of a hundred thousand or more

06:09it is concerning but he knows what's worth buying and everything that he purchased can be turned over

06:18and he can make three times four times off of every single thing oh my god this is actually mine

06:25what is this oh if Nick had more barns he would fill them all he has so much stuff it's endless and he

06:36could never get enough stuff oh oh god don't drop anything on me please found him I think I am the

06:45real-life elf here let me just you're good you're good you're fine every single thing I eat is covered

06:52in syrup it gives me energy and that's probably why I'm always smiling and jittery because I'm just

06:5690% sugar oh I'm so happy I found it oh yeah it's long enough us too

07:02hope are you down here yeah oh jesus what are you doing here well I came over to get that thing

07:15for your mom but where did all this stuff come from well you know over time as a collector it just kind

07:22builds up I guess I'm hope this is my dad Chris and I love Christmas yeah she loves Christmas to an

07:31extreme I guess is the way to put it I am obsessed with making Christmas headbands I did make one for

07:35you oh thank you honey okay how does that feel great just great thank you why do you need two of those

07:45yeah I think one would be good you know well I have three that's nice my collection is pretty big

07:52it started with blow molds and now it's like the tchotchkes and it's huge my entire basement is

07:58Christmas I'm gonna take those two and let me grab the last one isn't there enough up there already

08:03well I'm gonna decorate for the living room too

08:06hey you've seen my house decorated for Christmas yeah my love of Christmas started as early as I can

08:16remember when I was a child okay so last year Kyle and I were talking about suspending Santa and the

08:21reindeer from the ceiling do you think you could help me do that no my dad back in the 90s you know

08:27in his heyday really decorated for Christmas he would go out and string all the trees outside and

08:33put all the blow molds I bought blow molds just because I knew the kids would like them no actual

08:39intent of creating this passion will you grab this one for me yeah sure my dad started a Christmas

08:45dish set for my mom and as a kid we would buy my mom pieces of it and give that to her for Christmas so

08:51it really started my love for collecting open up your right yeah there we go turn for me there we

08:56go in a previous profession I have dealt with hoarders and I can see the signs so we're getting

09:05signs it was his job to go in people's houses for safety code so that he has seen his fair share but

09:10I'm not hoarding garbage I'm hoarding Christmas hope my god isn't it great this was all in the basement yeah but

09:24doesn't it look awesome and this is only room one of four how did you pay for all this well I do have a job I am

09:32a special education teacher grades two through four this year this is a very popular one with my students

09:38I will say they love it see it moves do you see a box anywhere dad that says flocked hmm oh there you go

09:51snow flocking tree that probably has asbestos in it you know dad that any dark hole that I can crawl

09:57into to find something vintage and Christmas filled with asbestos sign me up asbestos that's what I said

10:03asbestos how do you pay for all this honey you know every time I look at your checking account there's not

10:11very much in it I got my first job at the mall when I was 15 and he's been on my account ever since

10:16because I needed a cosigner you know when she gets paid you know I see what her check is then she

10:21transfers money into her savings account which I have no control over you can't see it and then I

10:26don't know what's in there you know now I think it's time that we cut bait I don't think it's time

10:32we're on a 15 year streak I say at least get to 20 any money that I put into vintage Christmas dad I'm

10:37gonna get back out of it yeah I've sold a ton at my sale this past summer and your P&L on that is

10:44how much what's a P&L oh god any money I make from selling parts of my collection is gonna go right

10:51back into the collection I don't see why I would put that money into a back into my checking account

10:56when it's only gonna come back out oh dad by the way um later this week can I borrow your truck I have

11:01to go pick up a chair for Kyle it's not Christmas it's just a chair it's just a chair nothing extra

11:06because the last time I gave you my truck you came home with blow molds it was an emergency

11:12that's not an emergency hope trust me in your definition I would consider that an emergency

11:17I don't understand having so much but she's my daughter and I love her so we've always been

11:25very close like told daddy's girl but you're sure you're just picking up a chair my intention right

11:34now that I know about the sales to pick up a chair or nothing else and I need your big truck for this

11:39big chair okay sure and can you also put gas in it because I'm low on funds we're in the beginning

11:47of a slasher movie I'll take a little peek when you squint your eyes yeah you could see that this

11:53section is brighter wait so we're gonna have 200 people here and you want them to squint we see it we

11:58get it where's the chair I have to come home with a chair what are you doing I'm trying to put these

12:11bugs on the tree but I can't find a spot the trees done no I know the trees done but we have bugs and

12:17I thought I bought more of these and somebody touch something I think something broke somebody move

12:21something because there's no way I would put two ornaments like this next to each other okay well no

12:25someone's been here you've been here I didn't I don't touch this tree we are months months away

12:32from the Christmas party and this sometimes it just relaxes I know but are you redoing the whole

12:38thing no I'm just redoing this there's only about 20% left to do in the house I thought we were done

12:44you're gonna change 20 no but like we didn't do anything in the living room I have to add some

12:48things because there's a new concept a new vision that I'm having and I have to execute it well I mean I

12:54guess it's good it's July here's a spot we don't run out of time again you're stressing me out I'm

13:07and I live in New York with my husband Dominic we have been together for just over 20 years married for

13:1510. Matt discovered my Christmas fetish wait wait back up you can't say fetish I'm like legal but that's still legal Matt

13:27discovered my Christmas obsession when he came up to visit my family for the first time I saw all of the Christmas stuff on that trip

13:37and you were like wow this is cool it could use a little more magnolia because when you squint your

13:50eyes you could see that this section is brighter than that section so that's given the illusion that

13:56that section has lights out when it really doesn't it's just we didn't fill this one enough I started

14:05Christmas collecting since I was like seven it started because I think my mother wouldn't let me

14:12decorate anything so I think it was all this repressed energy and then finally at seven years old I got a

14:17ladder and decorated the outside of the house at that point my mother realized that I might have had a

14:22skill set that she didn't have to work so hard decorating anymore this is very bright why don't we just put

14:29less lights on the tree you can't have the elegant warm glow of a tree if you don't hide the lights when

14:36you squint your eyes you could see the dark spots of the tree it's pretty dim and very warm and then

14:43you get to this section and it's on fire I mean it might as well be at a hardware store we used to have

14:50New Year's Eve parties and I would not like it so much because it went from like all the warmth of

14:56Christmas into the New Year's explosion so we started to have a small Christmas party like 20

15:02people and it just morphed into this bigger party and it takes many months to get the decorating done

15:08wait so we're gonna have 200 people here and you want them to squint no they don't need to squint but

15:14when the lights come down they'll see that it's one big beautiful glow not all this brightness if we

15:20but if you only notice it when you squint that's the whole point just just the squint is a test to

15:26see where it needs more magnolia and less magnolia when decorating season is coming if Dominic says

15:34I'm just going to change a couple things it'll be fine this season will be easy no never he always

15:40changes everything but it also is like therapy to me

15:44we have so much stuff yeah yeah how many wreaths one two three four five five times five that's 25

16:01probably 40 well if there's 40 why are you asking me how many you just I'm just I'm just trying to

16:06say so 40 reads and what are these do you know how many you have well how many windows do we have

16:13there's one for each window that's not a hard one you don't even know how much you have I do too

16:17the amount of things that are downstairs is a lot more than even I realize sometimes I think that's

16:26one of many boxes of sticks no this is the only box of sticks that are white if I have to go get a

16:31box for him or if I'm looking for something or honestly if I'm looking for him so if it's kind

16:36of ugly why don't we get rid of it would you get rid of an ugly child no he's like sometimes three

16:43rows behind of shelves and boxes and spaces and I forget just how much there is 12 boxes of vintage

16:51ornaments I own a antique shop and I love my collection I mean there's no doubt about it just

16:57like somebody would buy a fancy car I know they're materialistic things but they do bring me joy

17:03so how many of these cosmic stars do you have well two broke so whatever it is minus two okay but

17:11maybe that's the whole point you don't know the quantity minus two I'm just saying look at all this

17:16stuff how can you not find something something something if I come up with a new concept in my head

17:23chances are I don't have it here because it's new just what if you had at your fingertips

17:33the entirety of your collection wait is this for a last will and testament like why do we need an

17:39accurate account no because I think if you knew how much you had it doesn't matter I could have a

17:43billion dollars worth of Christmas stuff but that's not going to make me change my mind and not make me

17:47want the two things what if you could pick the person that can come in and do it Dominic has so

17:52much that I sometimes think he forgets what he has my hope with the assessor is that once he sees

17:59this accounting and this list he may realize oh perhaps I don't always need to be going out and

18:04getting more and more and more if you really want to have it assessed then I'm fine I mean so we're

18:12going to do it we could do it oh I'm so excited to go to this pick it's at a really really old

18:22abandoned looking type building what are you hoping to get out of this place something mechanical something

18:28very old and moves I just got this text from Paul and I know him from picking paths there's a new place

18:36that I could pick from like across the street from his other place I ran right as soon as I could I

18:43don't do running come on let's go when I pick I'm after a certain decade of decorations pretty much from the

18:5050s to the early 70s the most glitter the most shine the most fiberglass and other materials you

18:58probably shouldn't touch let's go the hell is this place Wow look at this place I love it it smells like

19:09like someone's basement in here sometimes when I pick it's just so much stuff to move around I

19:32need my extra family and friends just to have a helping hand did you bring any like costs or like

19:38anything I did not you guys didn't think to bring gloves you just told and we're both wearing white

19:45why would you wear white if you're going to a Nick pick it's gonna be a dirty place a Nick pick a Nick

19:50pick yeah we definitely didn't come prepared but we'll do anything for a Nick guys look at these

19:59things a little tacky I think I like it I love extra tack at least it's not doesn't look dirty it might

20:05be I'm actually it's turning my fingers black yes it's a little bit of an addiction but I think

20:09that's the way it's supposed to be yeah I mean he's st. Nick like this is his whole entire life like he

20:15loves this and we're just here to support him and just you know be in it is this maybe something oh I

24:42wow I asked to borrow my dad's truck the other day to go pick up a chair for my boyfriend Kyle

24:48knowing that this chair was being held at an estate sale by my friends and also knowing that there was

24:53boxes of smelly vintage Christmas so I knew quite literally I wasn't going to be leaving with just

24:59a chair and I think my dad might never admit that but he knows that too he knew where did you hear

25:06about this one my friend Lori she does like clean outs and she was like hey you want to come through

25:11and just look so this is like literally before anyone's even been here well let's start digging in

25:17oh look at this we got one oh god right off the bat oh my god he's so cute it's gonna go to your

25:25house Holly is my aunt we see it we get it and she's the person I call when I can't tell my mom or dad

25:32that I want to buy something see her with her little face oh the angel yeah let's like you want this one

25:37yep there we go I don't know that I would call her an enabler I don't like that word so much I like

25:42supporter oh this is what we're talking about hope this is it oh yeah I haven't seen a poinsettia

25:50thing like this have you I do want the trees too the vintage pipe cleaner trees that's been on my list

25:55there's definitely asbestos in that um I think for the ornaments maybe I'll just ask how much for the

26:01lot if you don't take them you're gonna regret it so you're so right take them all that's what I say

26:12wait till you see this room oh yeah and I am her financier here's the Christmas oh my gosh look at

26:20she must have crocheted these all of the trees is that a cover is that a wine bottle cover it is

26:26oh that's got to go on top of something oh that's so cute this reminds me of like the stockings that

26:31grandma knit for all of us with their names on them hi ladies are you finding treasures yes we have

26:36found a lot um you've met my aunt holly right I have yes yeah absolutely so I had a question for

26:41you um there's like a bucket or two buckets of ornaments in that back room and then there's all

26:47of this Christmas we were wondering if we could do like a lot listing or a lot sale so I've known hope

26:52for about three years she's one of our best customers she's been a friend and she buys from

26:56us all the time she loves to give all old things a new home and give them a new purpose for everything

27:02on this table and the ornaments in the back yes and then everything on that table all the Christmas

27:06as well do you have a price in mind no well because you're a good customer how about 600 for

27:15everything 600 for all okay um yeah I think 600 will work for that for the ornaments and these two

27:23tables but would you be interested in everything in the basement upstairs and this room for 1200

27:29if it's Christmas related yes just the Christmas and most of it's vintage yes most of it's vintage

27:45I was supposed to be gone for an hour for a chair there is no room for that

29:09missed out on and I would rather not live with that and just take the money that chair is not going

29:16with us it's there's no room for that oh let's take this one you said it was a rocker

29:23it's not a lie I did plan on getting the chair and then I saw much room the chair would take up

29:29and then I found a different chair so I wasn't a lie I don't like lying well I hope Kyle likes his

29:35chair I did come home with a chair I intended to come home with a chair it wasn't the chair I thought

29:40of but I came home with a chair all good intention well we should really get home and try and hide

29:45some of this we'll face the music but there'll be Christmas music yay I don't know if I'm ready for

29:57the warehouse started because there was an antique collector and we would run sales once a month

30:14there and now it houses some of my larger decorations and a bunch of Christmas trees I don't know

30:20everything it's in a warehouse it's been years of stuff just sitting there

30:26with the crown and everything so whenever I go in and I do find something it does inspire me because

30:45I'm like oh this is great I remember buying this 40 years ago but now I'm getting to use it and bring

30:52it to life again and that's really a cool feeling there it is hello not now not now no hello hi

32:19I thought we agreed that we're going to do an assessment we're going to get an idea of what

32:24the inventory is no we didn't really agree I had said if we found something then I would go with a

32:29different concept but if we did not find something I'm pretty sure I said this we would use the

32:34original but we're not even done so I had this incredible vision and I knew I put the peacocks in a

32:43warehouse somewhere and I had to find them so that's why I went to the warehouse this is the

32:48most bizarre thing it's not that bizarre it's wonderful look at how many bedazzled things we'll

32:54call this one mamarachi and the other one liberachi okay so uh definitely not following the rules

33:01like you don't even need to Christmas decorate with this it's done but so we're done yeah did you say

33:06done finished no more purchases no more purchases we're good we're good grab the bird let's get

33:11mamarachi out of the warehouse mamarachi and get the other rachi

33:15oh yeah dad oh it went really well yeah are you done with my truck yeah yeah and did you get

33:24kyle's chair I did get kyle's chair yeah that yeah I don't know why you needed my truck to get this

33:37you're right dad I didn't need your truck for this chair but I did know I was going to the estate

33:41sale and I figured you know better to have it not need it than need it not have it and I got some

33:47extra Christmas things yeah I got a lot of extra Christmas things because my checking account says

33:51it's minus 600 bucks uh-huh and I talked to your mom and she said you didn't spend 600 bucks you spent

33:58$1,200 well she's right this is true and Holly did front me the other $600 hope okay but look dad

34:05vintage Christmas is obviously a hot commodity right now and because we are in September we're

34:09getting closer to the season yeah but look at all this honey I it's you know it's an investment

34:17so did you see the Santa will mold that I got yeah okay you know I paid like four bucks for him

34:22yeah let me just show you what he sells for $145 dad so while you have access my checking account

34:30for emergencies like this you don't actually see the income part of this for me yeah I guess I don't

34:36see your income at all but I've actually sold this much in my account so far $15,000 wow were you

34:43expecting that no I guess I wasn't see it's fine it's all safe we're all good hope if you're going to

34:50make that kind of profit then we got to get organized we got to get a ledger sheet you know

34:54what you paid what you sold it for and list everything and inventory so that way we can have a

35:00definite profit and loss so a whole list of every single item that I buy and then I sell yes do people

35:06do that in real life yes they do hope you've done great but I think now is the time that we have to

35:13cut the checking account so you can manage your own money and you'll learn from it even though you

35:19will bounce a few checks but I think it'll be a good learning experience for you honey

35:23I don't think I need that learning experience I don't think we're there yet

41:53to cut our summer vacation short because they had to go back home and like decorate get everything
