NSW Premier warns supporters of neo-Nazi party will be 'exposed as racists'

"Anyone who's thinking about signing the paperwork to register this political party has to think long and hard about whether they want their name and their reputation publicly associated with Nazis," Premier Chris Minns said.

00:00In order to register a political party, you need 750 people who are prepared to sign the register.

00:06So that's 750 people who would effectively out themselves as associated with neo-Nazis.

00:12And anyone who's thinking about signing the paperwork to register this political party

00:17has to think long and hard about whether they want their name and their reputation

00:21publicly associated with Nazis in New South Wales.

00:24Because, spite of the organisation, organisers of the party will tell you,

00:27this information may well become public and you'll be exposed as a racist.

00:32I think we've got the highest barriers to entry for new entrants to political parties

00:36of any jurisdiction in the country.

00:38For example, I could have these numbers wrong,

00:41but there's 60 New South Wales parties registered for federal elections

00:45and we're down to about 20 in our state.

00:49So it's a high barrier to entry.
