00:00After the guns fell silent, a new struggle defines daily life in central Gaza

00:05where scores of displaced Palestinians, most of them children,

00:08lined up on Tuesday with empty pots at charity kitchens

00:12for their only guaranteed meal of the day,

00:14comprising of simple rice served from a large communal pot

00:18into the containers of a weary queue.

00:23The rockets and planes topped, but the rising living costs

00:26have been the hardest weapon used against us,

00:29given that we are unemployed and most people don't have jobs.

00:34We rely on charity kitchens, which provide us once again

00:37with only one meal for the entire day.

00:43For many, like Father of Three, Muhammad Jedeli,

00:46the charity kitchens are not a temporary relief,

00:49but a critical lifeline as the soaring market prices for food and essentials

00:54have made self-sufficiency impossible for those stripped of their livelihoods.

00:59We get food from charity kitchens.

01:03There is no alternative to that.

01:05Things in the market are expensive.

01:08If charity kitchens close, we will be unable to get food from another place.

01:13While some humanitarian supplies have trickled into the Gaza Strip

01:17since the truce took effect last month,

01:19the amount of aid reaching the territory continues to fall drastically short of the overwhelming need.
