00:00Oh, there we go.
00:02What do you got?
00:02Fits in with the time period of 1600s.
00:05It's probably the coolest thing that I've looked at.
00:07Really?
00:08Valuation, sky's the limit.
00:10Oh my gosh.
00:10Yeah.
00:14There is an island in the North Atlantic
00:16where people have been looking for an incredible treasure
00:20for more than 200 years.
00:23So far, they have found a stone slab
00:26with strange symbols carved into it.
00:28Man-made workings that date to medieval times
00:32and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:38To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
00:43And, according to legend,
00:45one more will have to die
00:47before the treasure can be found.
00:58We came in with a purpose this year,
01:05and the purpose was to put every borehole
01:06in the bottom of the solution channel.
01:08Yeah, absolutely.
01:09As a new day begins on Oak Island,
01:12brothers Rick and Marty Lagina
01:14and their team are energized
01:16by the belief that they could finally be on track
01:19to solve a 230-year-old treasure mystery.
01:22Everything that we dug up
01:25led us to this area being the money pit.
01:27We just needed to find the right spot of depth,
01:29beneath 150 feet.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Whatever was put in the money pit
01:34fell to where it could fall no more.
01:36I need a solution check.
01:37So, if it's there, we should find it.
01:40Yeah.
01:41Time's going to tell.
01:43The team is currently drilling a borehole
01:46in the fabled money pit area known as J-9.
01:50A borehole located where they believe
01:53the original treasure shaft,
01:55first discovered in 1795,
01:58has collapsed after more than two centuries
02:00of repeated excavations
02:02and fallen into a massive natural cavity
02:05in the bedrock known as the Solution Channel,
02:09between 150 and 220 feet underground.
02:13We're looking for what, hopefully,
02:15Pit Glado found in 1849.
02:18After the collapse, I think it's all down there.
02:20The whole thing is down.
02:21Exactly.
02:22Yeah.
02:23This was a coin that was given to me
02:25that, from my own research,
02:27I believe is from about 1367.
02:30Wow.
02:31One week ago, the team was presented
02:33with a 14th century silver Portuguese coin
02:36believed to be related
02:38to the Portuguese sects of the Knights Templar,
02:40known as the Knights of Christ.
02:43According to the coin's current owner,
02:45Steve Solomon,
02:46it was recovered during a drilling operation
02:49in 1849
02:50from nearly 100 feet deep in the money pit
02:53by James Pit Glado,
02:55a drilling foreman
02:56who kept the discovery a secret.
02:59You got a core, gentlemen?
03:01It looks like, yeah.
03:03Got another bag.
03:05Now, having already detected
03:07high-trace evidence of precious metals
03:09in water deep underground,
03:11they are hoping to prove
03:12that the coin is genuine
03:14by finding many more
03:15in the Solution Channel.
03:17158.
03:18158?
03:19Yeah.
03:20See what we got.
03:21None of the previous work
03:23got to the bottom of the Solution Channel,
03:24where a treasure fall into those depths could hide.
03:27And what do we got here?
03:28There could be a lot more coins hiding in there.
03:31I think there are ample opportunities here to find out.
03:35These are chunks of limestone.
03:37Nothing yet, Charles.
03:38Nothing yet.
03:40What's your suspected depth
03:42of the bottom of the Solution Channel here?
03:44In this area,
03:45it's in between 210, 215.
03:47Well, the key would be
03:49to find any evidence of treasure.
03:52That's your target.
03:53Turn immediately to recovery,
03:55and that would probably be a big dig.
03:57Let's find it.
03:58We're still a ways away,
03:59so call me if you find anything.
04:01Oh, absolutely.
04:01You're my first call.
04:02We're going to keep our eyes peeled.
04:04As the core drilling operation continues
04:06in the Money Pit area,
04:08nearly half a mile away,
04:10on Lot 5.
04:13All right, guys.
04:14We're going to go from the ferns
04:15down the beach.
04:17Marty Lagina,
04:17his nephew Peter Fernetti
04:19and metal detection expert Katja Drayton
04:22search for clues
04:24between a mysterious rectangular feature
04:26and a rounded stone foundation
04:28near the shoreline.
04:31Proceed.
04:32After the surprising discovery
04:34of these two buried features
04:36back in 2022,
04:38the team has made astonishing finds
04:41that suggest
04:41both may have been used
04:43as campsites by different groups
04:45over a number of centuries
04:46prior to the discovery
04:48of the Money Pit.
04:50These finds include
04:52a lead barter token
04:53that just like
04:54the 14th century lead cross
04:56discovered at Smith's Cove
04:57may be related
04:58to the Knights Templar.
05:01Another curious clue
05:03is a mortar-like material
05:05that has been found
05:06in both features,
05:07which has been scientifically matched
05:09to soil samples
05:10collected from more than 100 feet deep
05:13in the Money Pit area.
05:15All right, there we go.
05:22It's a two-way signal.
05:24Sounds good.
05:25Okay, see?
05:26This occupation we know occurred
05:28potentially through several time periods.
05:31Amongst other things,
05:32we have direct connection
05:33between Lot 5
05:34and the Money Pit already.
05:36Lot 5 could give us clues
05:37as to when
05:38and by who
05:39the treasure itself
05:40might have been deposited.
05:41So that could be very meaningful.
05:44That's a rock.
05:45That's a rock.
05:45How big is it?
05:49That's a big rock.
05:51Oh, that's a big boulder.
05:52You know what?
05:54There is a pry bar
05:55left from an earlier job
05:57right over here.
06:01Let's see if we can move this bad boy.
06:03This guy.
06:04Which one?
06:05Put it long ways right there.
06:07This is vaguely reminiscent
06:09of being 10 years old again.
06:10Here we are
06:11with the lowest of low-tech possible.
06:13We've got a great big boulder.
06:15We have no hydraulic equipment.
06:17We have a pry bar.
06:19We're going to try
06:19and move this boulder out of the way.
06:20It needs to get out of the way.
06:21We need to know what's under it.
06:22I'm going to fall in my face
06:24is what I'm going to do.
06:26Wish me locked.
06:27Come on, you big bugger.
06:31There's this rock here
06:32that refuses to be moved.
06:33There have been a lot of great finds
06:36around Lot 5.
06:37And so it's very important to get it.
06:39I mean, it could be a gold coin.
06:41It could be a coin with a date on it.
06:43We can't just let that go.
06:45I don't think we have
06:46the right equipment.
06:47I think the skid steer
06:47will fit in here.
06:49Pete?
06:49Yes?
06:49Yeah.
06:50Okay, well,
06:51I will go get the machine
06:52and we'll roll it out of there.
06:53Awesome.
06:53Okay.
06:54It's been fun.
06:55While Marty retrieves
06:56a small excavator
06:58to move the boulder
06:59on Lot 5.
07:01You know, whenever I see
07:02iron on the table
07:03I'm excited, obviously.
07:05This could be an important find.
07:07Rick Lagina
07:07and other members of the team
07:09meet with Laird Niven
07:10and Emma Culligan
07:11in the lab.
07:13It came out of 8.5-8.5
07:16which is 174 to 178 feet deep.
07:19It looked very much like
07:20somebody's drill casing,
07:22something from before us.
07:23They are about to hear
07:24a scientific report
07:26on pieces of a believed drill rod
07:28that was recovered
07:29over one week ago
07:31just feet away
07:32from where they are
07:33currently exploring
07:34in the Money Pit area.
07:36If it was
07:37somebody's old drill seal
07:39that tells us
07:40that somebody else
07:40was interested in this area
07:41for reasons we don't know.
07:43And Emma,
07:44that's where you come in.
07:45Yeah.
07:47Earlier this morning,
07:48Emma scanned
07:49the metal pieces
07:50using the X-ray
07:51Fluorescent Spectrometer
07:52or XRF,
07:54a device
07:55that can identify
07:56the elements
07:56in an object's composition
07:58to help determine
07:59when it was created.
08:01So,
08:02the two metals
08:03are exactly the same thing
08:05which
08:05you kind of see
08:07just from the look of it
08:08that they belong
08:08to the same piece.
08:10Based on the list
08:11of impurities,
08:12it's
08:13Manganese content.
08:14I would put this
08:16around mid-1800s
08:17to late-1800s.
08:18The dates
08:20that Emma
08:20is relating to us
08:22indicate searcher.
08:24The Truro Company
08:25in 1849,
08:26when they were doing
08:26their drilling
08:27and they brought up
08:28the coin
08:29that put a blade
08:30up in his pocket.
08:32In 1849,
08:34members of the Truro Company
08:35excavated the original
08:37Money Pit
08:37down to a depth
08:38of nearly 90 feet.
08:41After building
08:42a wooden platform
08:43at a depth
08:44of 30 feet
08:44in the pit,
08:46they began
08:46a drilling operation.
08:48At approximately
08:49100 feet,
08:51they reportedly struck
08:52two stacked chests
08:53which they failed
08:54to recover
08:55due to catastrophic flooding.
08:58However,
08:59the company's foreman,
09:00named James Pitt Blato,
09:01is believed
09:02to have recovered
09:03the 14th century
09:04silver Portuguese coin
09:05from the end
09:06of the drill bed.
09:08They were drilling
09:09when they knew
09:09where the money pit was.
09:11So,
09:11my hope is
09:12we're going to find
09:12more of those
09:13Portuguese coins
09:14in this area.
09:15That'd be pretty cool.
09:16Yeah,
09:17and we know
09:18the Truro Company
09:18didn't get below
09:19any more than
09:20117 feet
09:21with their drilling.
09:22So,
09:22the Great Collapse
09:23could have carried
09:24this metal down
09:25deeper than any
09:25known work at the time.
09:27And that area
09:27of the solution channel
09:28could prove
09:29really interesting.
09:31If this deal
09:32correlates to
09:33the efforts
09:34by the Truro Company
09:35to try to find
09:36treasure,
09:37that's important
09:37because it would mean
09:39that we are
09:39in the same area
09:40that they were in
09:42when they were
09:43looking for the vault.
09:43and we have
09:45a coin
09:46that we suspect
09:47might be associated
09:48with that
09:48and it is in
09:49this area.
09:52Bottom line,
09:53we have an area
09:54that we've designated
09:55an area of significant
09:56interest
09:57and this supports that.
09:59Given the evidence
10:00on the table,
10:00we should redouble
10:01our efforts.
10:03Let's go do it.
10:04Okay.
10:04This could turn
10:08into loose
10:09watery material
10:10within a foot or two,
10:11right?
10:12Yeah.
10:13While the drilling
10:14operation proceeds
10:15in the money pit.
10:17I'm just going to
10:18try and get right
10:19in there
10:19and pluck it out.
10:20And then we're
10:21done with that rock.
10:22Mm-hmm.
10:23Yeah.
10:23Marty Lagina
10:24arrives back
10:25on lot five
10:26with a small excavator
10:27known as
10:28a skid steer
10:29to move the boulder
10:32that is covering
10:33what may be
10:34an important clue.
10:36Why I had to move
10:37the rock initially
10:38was to try and move
10:39it with levers.
10:40It didn't work.
10:42So then it's time
10:43to bring in the power
10:44of the skid steer.
10:47Oh!
10:48Nothing I like better.
10:50It's kind of hard
10:51to move a rock
10:52that's in a hole.
10:53There we go.
10:54But we want to get this out
10:55because it could be
10:56super significant
10:57and it could be
10:58very, very old.
10:59Okay.
11:02Great.
11:03The rock has moved.
11:04It is.
11:05Finally.
11:07Well, is there
11:08anything in there?
11:09Yeah.
11:10Please be something
11:11in there.
11:19It's so low
11:20of a signal
11:21and it's reading
11:22very low content.
11:24I believe there
11:24was something here,
11:25but not anymore.
11:27It disintegrated.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Yeah.
11:29It seems that it's
11:31a bit of a ghost
11:33who we were chasing.
11:34Probably there was
11:35something in there
11:35that corroded
11:36a long time ago.
11:37So it's still
11:38a bit of a mystery.
11:38We had to do this.
11:40There was a clue
11:40potentially under that rock
11:42and it would have driven
11:42all of us crazy
11:43if we didn't find out.
11:44But we're not going
11:45with the island beat us,
11:46so let's get on
11:46to the next task.
11:47Let's do it.
11:48Lot 5 has been
11:50a better place to look
11:50than just anywhere.
11:52I'm still hoping
11:53to find something
11:53interesting,
11:54something valuable,
11:55a clue.
11:56Actually, Katja,
11:56you know where I brought
11:57the skid steer in
11:58and disturbed all the soil here?
12:00Yeah.
12:00Why don't you scan this?
12:01What the heck?
12:01I'd love to do it.
12:02That'd be great.
12:11There's definitely
12:11some over here, too.
12:13Yeah, that's a good signal.
12:14That's a great signal.
12:19That's pretty deep.
12:22Oh, yeah, that's out.
12:26Pinpoint.
12:29Ooh.
12:30There we go.
12:31There you go.
12:32Oh.
12:33Want to clean it up
12:34a little bit?
12:36That's not just
12:37a shard of metal
12:37because it's got
12:38something going on
12:39right there.
12:40There is some sort
12:40of attachment here.
12:42Yeah, it looks like
12:42it has a fastener on it.
12:44I'll tell you what it is.
12:45It's lab-worthy.
12:46That's right.
12:47So that's good.
12:49Okay.
12:49All right, so all this
12:50rigmarole to get that rock
12:51might have been worth it
12:52if this means something.
12:53Mm-hmm.
12:54I mean, look at the proximity
12:55to the rectangular feature.
12:56Mm-hmm.
12:57Just an inch or two
12:58outside of where
13:00they were digging.
13:00And so if this
13:02could be a clue
13:03to figure out
13:04what the heck
13:04was going on here
13:05and how it associates
13:06to the money pit,
13:07yeah, I think
13:08there's something here.
13:09There's certainly
13:09a possibility.
13:11This thing might
13:12mean something.
13:13It might tell us
13:14who was there
13:15and when,
13:15and that would be
13:16a big deal.
13:17it could very well
13:18be significant.
13:19So bag it, please,
13:20and we'll analyze it.
13:21Sounds great.
13:22Let's go on to
13:23something else.
13:23Perfect.
13:24Way to go, you guys.
13:26As Marty and the team
13:27finish their investigation
13:29on Lot 5
13:30in the research center.
13:34So, Sandy,
13:34I'd like you
13:35to introduce you
13:36to Steve Solomon.
13:37At the request
13:38of Rick Lagina,
13:39Steve Solomon
13:40has agreed
13:41to have coin expert
13:42Sandy Campbell
13:43examine the 14th century
13:45Portuguese coin
13:46that was reportedly
13:47extracted
13:48from the original
13:48money pit
13:49back in 1849.
13:53So this is it.
13:54There you go.
13:54Interesting.
13:59With his extensive
14:00experience,
14:01it is the team's hope
14:02that Sandy
14:03will be able
14:04to confirm
14:05the origin of the coin
14:06as well
14:07as its potential value.
14:10It's quite cool.
14:12Probably the coolest
14:13thing that I've looked at
14:15in my time
14:16on the island.
14:17So, you know,
14:18we've had
14:18some cool things,
14:20but this goes
14:22to a different level.
14:24It's a torne discota,
14:26which means
14:27a decorative shield.
14:30It's Portuguese
14:3114th century.
14:33There's clearly
14:34a connection
14:35to the Templars
14:36because of the design
14:37of this coin.
14:38You have the cross.
14:40Here it is here.
14:41And that's basically
14:42the religious
14:43Templar
14:44connotation
14:45on the back
14:45and the celebration
14:47of the king
14:47on the upper side.
14:49This would be
14:49after the Knights
14:50Templar
14:51were technically
14:51disband,
14:53but there was
14:54still a lot
14:54of involvement
14:55with the monarch
14:56and the Templar.
14:58You know,
14:58secretly, obviously.
15:00And this was
15:00an ode to the Templar.
15:03It's a fairly
15:03unique item
15:04because it was
15:05only minted
15:06from 1367
15:07to probably 83.
15:10That's very curious.
15:11Interesting.
15:12Although the Order
15:14of the Knights Templar
15:15were disbanded
15:16in 1307,
15:18their rumored
15:19treasures
15:19were never found
15:20and many fled
15:22to nations
15:22that offered
15:23them safe harbor,
15:24including Portugal.
15:26Is it possible
15:28that this coin
15:29suggests
15:29that their missing
15:30valuables
15:31were hidden
15:32on Oak Island?
15:33This is exceptional
15:35because
15:35this coin,
15:37whenever it was
15:38buried,
15:38was brand spanking new.
15:39This was not
15:40circulated at all.
15:42And you say
15:42when it was buried,
15:43it was buried
15:44for a long time?
15:44Oh, this was
15:45definitely buried.
15:46Why do you say that?
15:47If this wasn't buried,
15:49it couldn't look like this.
15:50It would get very dark.
15:53If this was sitting
15:54in a chest
15:55and protected
15:56down there,
15:56it's going to be
15:57very slow
15:57at 100 feet deep
15:59for the deterioration.
16:01So this coin here
16:02will have silver,
16:04zinc,
16:04copper,
16:05and a touch of nickel
16:06when it was made.
16:07We have seen
16:08those elements
16:08in the water testing
16:09though that's been
16:10done, right?
16:11That's true.
16:11Silver, nickel, zinc.
16:13Yeah.
16:14Okay, I've got to
16:15go back and do
16:15my due diligence
16:16here for my dad.
16:17What do you think
16:18it would fetch?
16:18Oh, this?
16:21There's a Marty
16:21McGinnick question.
16:22There you go,
16:23right there.
16:24Valuation,
16:25you would be shocked.
16:26This would be
16:27$25,000,
16:28$30,000.
16:29If you find some
16:30that aren't
16:31deteriorated like this,
16:34you know,
16:34sky's the limit.
16:36That's amazing.
16:38Let's give my dad
16:39a call.
16:42Hey.
16:43Hey, Alex,
16:43what's up?
16:44So, just a quick
16:45question for you.
16:46I need your help
16:46with some math here.
16:47Okay.
16:48In the Oak Island
16:48Research Center,
16:50members of the team
16:51called Marty Lagina
16:52to inform him
16:53that the 14th century
16:55Portuguese coin
16:56reportedly found
16:57in the original
16:58money pit
16:58back in 1849
17:00may be worth
17:01more than $20,000
17:03in today's value.
17:06So, um,
17:07if we have a coin
17:08on the table
17:09that's worth,
17:09say,
17:10$20,000,
17:11perhaps more,
17:12what would be
17:14the approximate
17:14value of an entire
17:15chest full of those?
17:17Oh, man, Alex.
17:18Seriously?
17:19Yeah.
17:20According to Sandy
17:21that it could fetch
17:22quite a bit.
17:23Yeah.
17:23That's amazing.
17:25Let's just call it
17:26$20,000 for one.
17:27That's $2 million
17:28for $100.
17:30That's $20 million
17:31for $1,000.
17:32Yep.
17:33And that's $200 million
17:34or $0.2 billion
17:36for $10,000.
17:37A chest of coins
17:38such as that
17:39could easily be
17:40a billion dollars.
17:41Yeah, that's amazing.
17:44Boy, all it does
17:44is speak to the value
17:45of what might lie below.
17:47Yeah.
17:48All right.
17:49Really, if Mr. Pitblado
17:50found that coin,
17:51then where are the rest of them?
17:52Yeah.
17:53There should be more of them.
17:54Look, we found all kinds
17:56of really interesting things
17:57and intriguing clues
17:58and things that make you wonder
18:01what in the heck
18:01happened on this island.
18:03It looks quite likely to me
18:04that this coin
18:05is a piece of treasure
18:06that was extracted
18:07from deep in the money pit.
18:09And that means
18:09that there's a lot more
18:10down deep
18:11in the solution channel.
18:13Now you can stop asking me
18:15if there's a treasure
18:15in the money pit.
18:18Show me where to dig.
18:20I'll find them.
18:21I'm on board with that.
18:23All right.
18:24Well, guys,
18:24thanks for the call.
18:25Good job all.
18:26Keep me posted.
18:27Yeah, we'll keep you posted.
18:29Thanks, Marty.
18:30Thank you very much.
18:31Take care.
18:32The focus here for me is,
18:35you know,
18:36why was it put there?
18:37You don't cross the oceans
18:38with money
18:39and put it in a 100-foot shaft
18:41protected by a flooding system.
18:43Too much work.
18:43It's just,
18:44it's something else.
18:45Some intent,
18:46some purpose.
18:47Truthfully,
18:48if the numbers reached
18:49a billion dollars
18:50or even more,
18:52I'm not surprised by that.
18:54but I think
18:56there's something
18:57far more valuable.
18:58There's a real treasure here,
19:00a monetary treasure
19:01and something else.
19:02Secret information,
19:03secret knowledge
19:04has allowed this treasure mystery
19:06to endure for 230 years.
19:09And I've always believed it
19:10since I was a little boy.
19:11I believe it yet today
19:12as I sit here.
19:13We just have to find it.
19:15Sandy, Steve,
19:16thank you both very much.
19:17The raising of the level
19:19of excitement
19:19wouldn't have happened
19:20without the both of you.
19:21The Oak Island story
19:22is alive and well.
19:23And at this point,
19:24all that remains to be said
19:26is we need to find it.
19:27Let's go.
19:28Let's do it.
19:28All right.
19:29All right.
19:30As Rick and other members
19:31of the team
19:32conclude their meeting
19:33in the Oak Island
19:34Research Center.
19:37We'll take that corner
19:37down too.
19:38Yep.
19:39And I'll probably work
19:40with you over here.
19:41Yes, please.
19:42Over on Lot 5,
19:44archaeologist Fiona Steele
19:45and other members
19:47of the team
19:47continue to search
19:49for clues
19:49in the rounded stone foundation
19:51near the shoreline.
19:57Fiona?
19:58Yeah.
19:59I think this is red
20:00with glaze on it.
20:05Okay, you know what?
20:06I think that looks like
20:07black Anglo-American wear.
20:09Yeah.
20:09The Anglo-American wear
20:10is a coarse earthen wear.
20:12It could be anywhere
20:13from 1600s to 1800s.
20:15There's a body of evidence
20:17from the Lot 5 feature
20:18that literally spans centuries.
20:20How do you explain that?
20:21Good eyes.
20:23The archaeologists
20:24are intrigued by the feature
20:25and more and more information
20:28continues to come out
20:29of the ground.
20:30So you have to go
20:31where the information
20:32takes you.
20:40I found a button.
20:42Well, hallelujah.
20:43My first button.
20:44Wow.
20:45That's good eyes
20:46because they're hard
20:46to see when you're
20:47with the rocks.
20:48Yeah, you totally
20:48found a button.
20:49Put you around.
20:50Well, and you can see
20:51the shank there.
20:52It's kind of flattened down.
20:53Butts are falling off
20:54all the time
20:55and we have found
20:55so many here on Lot 5.
20:57Some of the buttons
20:58have even had
20:58military science on them.
21:00We have found
21:00the Starburst button.
21:02That one is really,
21:03really old.
21:03That could even possibly
21:04go back to medieval times.
21:05another mysterious button
21:08and found close
21:10to where the team
21:10unearthed the so-called
21:12Starburst button,
21:13which may be related
21:14to the Knights of Malta.
21:16Could the team
21:17have possibly found
21:18another piece of evidence
21:20that may help identify
21:21one of the groups
21:22who used this feature
21:24prior to the discovery
21:25of the Money Pit?
21:26And if so,
21:28what their purpose there was?
21:30Every button that we find
21:31adds to our picture
21:33of what we think
21:33might be happening here.
21:35I do think that this structure
21:36is connected to the Money Pit
21:38and the story
21:38of Oak Island itself.
21:40There's so much evidence
21:41in relation to the artifacts
21:43that give us the timelines
21:44and these timelines
21:45really all predate
21:46the Money Pit discovery.
21:47So that's why we never
21:48let anything go unexplored.
21:51Yay!
21:53Best find of the day so far.
21:55Well done.
21:57That's exciting.
21:58While the investigation
22:00on Lot 5 continues.
22:03Back in business, Rick.
22:05Several hundred yards
22:06to the east
22:06at Smith's Cove.
22:08Oh, no.
22:10Not that type of pesky nail.
22:12Rick, Gary, and Billy
22:14are continuing
22:15to search through
22:15the spoils
22:16that were extracted
22:17during the large-scale digs
22:19in the Money Pit area
22:20one year ago.
22:24This doesn't sound bad.
22:25I'll pin point, mate.
22:27Let's see if there's anything
22:28in there.
22:30After finding a tunneling tool
22:32one week ago
22:33that may date back
22:34to the 1600s
22:36and possibly connected
22:37to a deposit of treasure,
22:39now they are hoping
22:40to recover a piece
22:41of those potential valuables.
22:44Oh.
22:46Nice.
22:48Chain?
22:49No, I don't believe so.
22:50No, it's not.
22:51Some kind of oak.
22:52Yeah.
22:53My thought is
22:54the curve looks
22:55like it's not damaged,
22:57so you could hang
22:58something off it.
22:59That went into the wall
23:00with a sharpened end.
23:02You hang something
23:03right in there.
23:04Yeah.
23:04I mean, it makes sense.
23:06Yeah, it looks like
23:06kind of a refashioned
23:08square shanked fastener,
23:12the older type
23:13square shank fastener.
23:15Dang stuff.
23:16Yeah, I think this is old, mate.
23:17I think this could go back
23:19to the same period
23:20all the rest
23:21of those iron fasteners
23:23and tools
23:24that were finding
23:24in these money pit spoils
23:26which would be 1600s
23:28or older.
23:28That would be fantastic.
23:30No, mate,
23:30I'll put this in the pouch.
23:31Yep.
23:32I don't think any of us
23:34will want to quit
23:35on this attempt
23:35to find whatever we can
23:37in the spoils.
23:38I think there's more
23:38to be found.
23:39It's exciting.
23:41The money pit spoils
23:42piles are huge
23:43because they accumulate.
23:45There could be anything
23:46in them.
23:47The hope is that
23:47we will find
23:48some serious clues
23:49associated with
23:51the treasure
23:51in the money pit area.
23:56There we go.
23:58Just in there.
24:02Oh, is that it?
24:08Oh!
24:10This is beautiful.
24:15That's really nice.
24:16Oh, beautiful square nail.
24:19While searching
24:19through last year's
24:20money pit spoils,
24:22Rick, Gary and Billy
24:23have just made
24:24an exciting discovery.
24:26And that looks suspiciously
24:28like our old friend.
24:30Rose head.
24:31Yep.
24:31You got that right, mate.
24:32That's a rosie.
24:34There's a whole lot
24:34of rosie going on here.
24:36Yeah?
24:37It's cool.
24:38It's definitely
24:38an old fastener.
24:40There's no mistaking
24:40when you see that
24:41beveled edge
24:42going around there.
24:43They made the shaft
24:44and then did
24:45the head separate.
24:47And when this
24:47was hammered
24:48into wood,
24:49that's when
24:50all these facets
24:51were made.
24:52They resemble
24:53those rose head
24:54petals.
24:55Is it broken off?
24:56Oh, yeah.
24:58Yeah, that would have
24:58been twice as long.
24:59And if you look
25:01at the size of it,
25:02it wouldn't have
25:02been a lot bigger.
25:03We're on a treasure,
25:04don't we?
25:04That could have been
25:05out of a treasure chest.
25:07Really could.
25:08You've got a big chest.
25:10You've seen
25:11these silver coins.
25:13I mean,
25:13they would have been heavy.
25:14They would have
25:14needed a big chest.
25:16To your point,
25:17it's not like
25:18they're only
25:18for creating shafts.
25:20No.
25:20You can look
25:22at old doors
25:23and chests
25:24and you see
25:24rose head spikes
25:25all the time.
25:26Will it connect
25:27in some way
25:29to the efforts
25:30done long ago
25:31in the money pit
25:31in Smith's Cove?
25:33That's the hope.
25:34Okay, man.
25:35That's a really
25:35great find, mate.
25:36Do you want to do
25:37the honors
25:37and put it
25:38in the bag of goodies?
25:39Sure.
25:39It's got to go
25:40to Emma, obviously.
25:41It's a cool find.
25:42Yeah?
25:42Stock up the coffee
25:43because you're
25:44going to be busy, Emma.
25:45As the search
25:47for evidence
25:47of treasure
25:48continues at
25:49Smith's Cove.
25:51Hey, Steve.
25:51How you doing?
25:52Hey, guys.
25:52Got to the bottom
25:53of the J9?
25:54Yep.
25:55In the money pit area,
25:57Terry Matheson,
25:58Charles Barkhouse,
25:59and Steve Goptill
26:00are about to examine
26:01the final two core samples
26:03that were recovered
26:04in borehole J9
26:06that reached
26:07the bottom
26:07of the solution channel
26:08at a depth
26:09of 216 feet.
26:13Hit the bottom
26:14of the solution channel
26:14at 216.
26:16That has 26 feet
26:17of recovery.
26:17That's pretty good.
26:18Got some loose material
26:19here.
26:19It looks kind of
26:20intriguing and interesting.
26:21That's potentially
26:22the kind of stuff
26:23we're looking for.
26:24Something that might
26:24indicate there was
26:25a treasure chest
26:26in the immediate vicinity.
26:28There's some treasure
26:29broke up in the area.
26:30Yeah, I haven't run
26:31my pinpointer over it yet,
26:32so I'll do that.
26:35Every single one
26:36of these cores
26:36needs to be metal detected
26:37because this is the heart
26:38of the solution channel
26:39and this is the depth
26:40where we're looking
26:40for treasure.
26:41Anytime we see
26:42that loose material
26:43in the solution channel,
26:44that means that
26:44treasure can fall
26:45to the bottom
26:45when we see that.
26:55Clean, gentlemen.
26:56It's not going to be
26:57in this.
26:58You know what, though?
26:59We've got good information.
27:00This is one of the deepest
27:01hits we've ever had
27:02in the solution channel,
27:03so we know it's a deep
27:04canal or channel
27:05in here at least.
27:06Yeah.
27:06I think Emma should look
27:07for precious metals
27:08in this.
27:09I think you're right.
27:10I would say this area
27:11between 208 and 211
27:12is the loosest
27:13and potentially there
27:13could be something in there,
27:15something that might indicate
27:16there's some treasure
27:17in the area.
27:18Yeah.
27:19Back in 2024,
27:21the team conducted
27:22new water tests here
27:23that confirmed
27:24high traces of gold
27:26and silver
27:26more than 100 feet
27:28underground.
27:28ground.
27:30Two weeks later...
27:31Stop!
27:33It's caving.
27:34It's caving all the way back.
27:36The ground in this area
27:37collapsed
27:37as the team conducted
27:39a major excavation,
27:41which led them to believe
27:42that the possible treasure
27:43now lies
27:44more than 200 feet deep
27:46in the solution channel.
27:50Now,
27:50the team is collecting
27:51soil samples
27:52to have them tested
27:54for more trace evidence
27:55of precious metals.
27:57Look how loose that is.
27:58Yeah.
27:59Here we go.
28:00That does it.
28:01Yep.
28:01If those tests
28:02yield positive results,
28:04it will help the team
28:05plan their most ambitious
28:06excavation yet
28:07in the hopes
28:08of finally recovering
28:09the long-lost treasure.
28:11The next hole,
28:12we're not going to go far
28:13from this hole.
28:14All right,
28:14I'm going to go drop the gyro.
28:15We'll get that information
28:16and we'll move on.
28:17Yep.
28:18Absolutely.
28:22As a new day dawns
28:24and while members of the team
28:26begin drilling a new borehole,
28:28in the Money Pit area.
28:31On lot five,
28:33there's a mystery there
28:34wrapped in an enigma.
28:36Rick Lagina
28:36and members of the team
28:38have joined Laird Niven
28:39and Emma Culligan
28:41in the Oak Island Laboratory.
28:42I mean,
28:44it really is confusing.
28:46But in its confusion,
28:47artifacts come up
28:48to the surface, right?
28:49We have one here.
28:51Katja and Peter
28:51and Marty found it.
28:54Laird and Emma
28:54have just completed
28:55their preliminary
28:56scientific analysis
28:57on the metal artifact
28:59that was unearthed
29:00one day ago
29:01on lot five.
29:02What I think is really cool
29:04about where we found this
29:05is it was really near
29:07the rectangular feature.
29:08Then Katja came through
29:10and it was metal detecting
29:11on the tracks
29:12and this is where
29:13we found that.
29:14So it was kind of
29:15the skid steer
29:15turning up a little bit
29:17of the material
29:18that brought this to life.
29:21Emma,
29:21what can you tell us
29:22about that?
29:23So it is a cast iron pot.
29:25There is a slight
29:26phosphorous content
29:28but this would not affect
29:30the quality of the iron
29:31whatsoever
29:31because it is cookware.
29:33And you're certain
29:34that that's what that is
29:35based on the curvature?
29:36That's what we think.
29:38Yeah.
29:38The high phosphorous content
29:40that's present
29:40throughout an iron
29:41creates an iron
29:43that is brittle
29:43during colder climates
29:45and is prone to breaking
29:47which suggests
29:48that being pre-1800s.
29:50I find that
29:51Industrial Revolution
29:52is when they really started
29:53to stray away
29:53from cast iron pots.
29:56So it fits in
29:57with the time period
29:58of 1700s.
30:00It could go into
30:01the 1600s.
30:02Wow.
30:03I'm quite stunning.
30:07Oh my gosh.
30:11So this cast iron pot
30:13fits in with
30:14the time period
30:14of 1700s.
30:16It could go into
30:17the 1600s.
30:18Oh my gosh.
30:19In the Oak Island
30:20Laboratory,
30:21Emma Culligan
30:22has just informed
30:23Rick Lagina
30:24and other members
30:25of the team
30:25that the remains
30:27of a cooking pot
30:27found by Marty,
30:29Katya,
30:30and Peter
30:30one day ago
30:31on Lot 5
30:32could date as far back
30:34as the 17th century.
30:36So this was probably
30:37used by someone
30:38who was associated
30:40with the features.
30:41I think that's a reasonable
30:43assumption.
30:44And the neat thing
30:45about cast iron pots
30:46is I don't believe
30:47in the 1700s
30:48they had the ability
30:48to cast anything
30:49in Nova Scotia.
30:50No, they didn't.
30:51So it was made in Europe
30:52and then brought here whole.
30:54Could Laird be correct
30:56that this piece
30:57of a possible
30:5817th century cooking pot
30:59was likely brought
31:01to Oak Island
31:01by someone
31:02of European origin?
31:03If so,
31:05who was it?
31:06And what were they doing
31:07on Lot 5?
31:09We've all broken things, right?
31:11If you don't pick it up,
31:13the whole thing is there.
31:14Yeah.
31:15Because this island
31:16is just strange
31:16with all of these one-offs.
31:19So between the round feature
31:20and the rectangular feature,
31:22we have hundreds of pieces
31:24but nothing whole.
31:27We certainly haven't
31:27found a whole pot.
31:29No.
31:29And that's what's
31:30troubling to me is
31:31is this an attempt
31:33by whomever
31:34to police the site
31:36to hide something?
31:37So I don't know
31:38if they just picked up
31:39the larger pieces
31:40and threw them
31:41in the ocean
31:41or took them with them.
31:44The foundation itself
31:45before it was discovered
31:46was under several feet
31:47of soil, was it not?
31:48Yeah.
31:48And rocks.
31:49So everything's well covered
31:50and it's a possibility
31:51that they were hiding
31:52something there.
31:53Yeah.
31:54Everything that comes
31:55from Lot 5
31:55hopefully can help
31:57solve that mystery.
31:58Correct.
31:58Because if you can
32:00put this back
32:00in the 1600s
32:02then the who
32:03becomes maybe
32:04attainable, right?
32:05Yeah, I agree.
32:06Right around that area
32:08we had found
32:08trade weights,
32:10buttons that connect
32:11with the Knights of Malta,
32:12some other very old
32:14artifacts,
32:15but we get something
32:16different here.
32:17Yeah.
32:18That could be important.
32:19That cast iron
32:20may give us a clue
32:21to who else
32:22was active in that area.
32:23Could Rick and Doug
32:24be correct
32:25that this fragment
32:27of a cooking pot
32:28offers more evidence
32:29that someone
32:30deliberately covered up
32:31the two foundations
32:32as well as
32:34all traces
32:34of their activity
32:35on Lot 5
32:36back in the 1600s.
32:39If so,
32:40could other
32:40potentially 17th century
32:42artifacts
32:43that have been uncovered
32:44nearby
32:45help identify
32:45just who it was?
32:47Truthfully,
32:48I wish I could say
32:49Lot 5 was done
32:50by this group of people.
32:53Could it be
32:53the Knights of Malta
32:54or something
32:55associated with
32:56the Templars?
32:57Sure,
32:57it could,
32:58with some of the artifacts,
32:59go back into
33:00medieval times,
33:02you know,
33:0314, 15, 1600.
33:06But for right now,
33:07I think we're done.
33:08We need to get back to work.
33:09All right.
33:09See you later.
33:10See y'all.
33:11As Rick,
33:12Peter,
33:13and Doug
33:13conclude their meeting
33:14in the lab.
33:17Okay, Katya,
33:18we're on.
33:19We're on Lot 5
33:20and this thing
33:22has given up a lot,
33:23but today it's gonna
33:23give up more, right?
33:24I'm hoping.
33:26On Lot 5,
33:27Marty and Katya
33:28are expanding
33:29their search
33:29south of the rounded feature
33:31to look for new clues.
33:34Sir.
33:34Sir.
33:34Sir.
33:34Sir.
33:34Sir.
33:34Sir.
33:35Sir.
33:35Sir.
33:36Sir.
33:36Sir.
33:36Sir.
33:37Sir.
33:38Sir.
33:39Sir.
33:40That sounds pretty good.
33:46It does.
33:46It's registering pretty good.
33:48It looks non-fares.
33:50Let's have a go.
33:51Right under that rock.
33:59Come on,
33:59be something good.
34:00Come on.
34:05All right.
34:05Maybe that might
34:06loosen things up.
34:09Oh,
34:09that sounds a lot
34:10better out.
34:13Let's see.
34:16There you go.
34:17There we are.
34:21Oh,
34:21a button?
34:28What,
34:28is that a coin?
34:29I don't think
34:30that's a button.
34:31Wowzer.
34:34Does it look like a coin?
34:35I think that's a coin.
34:37I think that's a really old coin.
34:39All right.
34:40Way to go.
34:41Gotcha.
34:43That looks like a very old coin to me.
34:45Oh,
34:45my gosh.
34:46It does.
34:47It almost looks like there's a cross on it.
34:49Really?
34:51Oh,
34:52yeah.
34:52Right there and right there.
34:54I think it might be copper,
34:55because it's...
34:56Yeah,
34:56I think it's copper.
34:56It's tinted green,
34:58and only copper does that.
35:00The coin is really exciting.
35:02Katja and I look at each other,
35:04and,
35:04you know,
35:05I know what she's thinking,
35:06and I know what I'm thinking.
35:08This is the Roman coin area,
35:10and that is,
35:10you know,
35:11hugely exciting.
35:12Hey,
35:12you nailed it.
35:13You said it was non-fair.
35:14It's right off the bat.
35:14Good on you.
35:16I'm impressed.
35:17I'm so excited about this.
35:18This is amazing.
35:19I feel pretty good about this.
35:21Okay,
35:21Katja,
35:21let me call Big Brother.
35:24Honestly,
35:24you'll want to see this.
35:29Okay.
35:30All the smiles.
35:32Proud dad coming in.
35:33Yeah,
35:33dad coming in.
35:35On lot five,
35:36Rick,
35:36Gary,
35:37and Billy
35:37arrive after hearing
35:39that Marty and Katja
35:40have found a potentially
35:42important clue.
35:44Come on over here.
35:45We think this is good.
35:48When Marty calls,
35:49it's got to be good.
35:50Gary,
35:51come here.
35:51Yeah.
35:52I'm coming in.
35:53Telling you this,
35:54your daughter was pretty excited.
35:56Ready?
35:59Oh,
35:59that is,
36:01oh,
36:02that's nice.
36:05Oh,
36:05that's old.
36:06Is it?
36:07Yeah.
36:08It might be identifiable
36:09because there is writing
36:10around the edge
36:11that's partly corroded away.
36:12Yeah,
36:12definitely not a button.
36:13That's a coin.
36:15This,
36:15this is pre-1600s.
36:19Yeah,
36:20this is an old one.
36:21Wow.
36:22Did me proud,
36:23Katja.
36:24Could Gary be correct
36:26that this copper coin
36:28may be more than
36:29400 years old?
36:30If so,
36:32might it be related
36:33to the Portuguese
36:34silver coin
36:35and help identify
36:36just who was behind
36:37the Oak Island mystery?
36:39The more you look at it,
36:42the more stuff
36:42you can see on it,
36:43so the lab's
36:43going to see stuff.
36:44Yeah.
36:45Yeah,
36:45CT scanner will.
36:47Yeah,
36:48it's irregular shaped.
36:50It's nice and thick.
36:52But it's also not,
36:54it's not deteriorated.
36:55Like,
36:56you know,
36:56I think it just was that
36:57sort of like a crude shape.
36:59Older metals also have
37:00pure compositions.
37:02You know,
37:02the metals are just,
37:03they're better.
37:04They don't rot like,
37:05you know,
37:05the nails I've been finding.
37:06This would be a hammer coin?
37:09Yeah,
37:09it would have been
37:09an hammered coin.
37:13Oh my God,
37:14that is absolutely gorgeous.
37:18That just only tells a tale.
37:19I hold the coin
37:20and I can see things
37:22on the face.
37:23So,
37:24at that point,
37:25it's really become
37:26quite exciting.
37:27I mean,
37:27we've already found
37:28five coins,
37:29Roman era coins,
37:31on watch five
37:32that have been authenticated
37:34metallurgically.
37:35The coin will tell you
37:37what it is
37:37and that
37:38provides immense
37:41hope amongst all of us.
37:43That's the top pocket filling.
37:44You ain't got any top pockets,
37:46Catcher.
37:46I know.
37:46That's what dad's for.
37:48Well done,
37:48Catcher.
37:49Yeah.
37:49That is brilliant.
37:51Thanks be proud.
37:51That's fantastic.
37:52That means the world to me.
37:53Yeah.
37:54Let's get back to work,
37:55Catcher.
37:55Great find.
37:56That's cool.
37:57The new discovery
37:59on lot five
38:00and
