China, Global South academic forum to start at East China normal university

The Global South Academic Forum at East China Normal University brought together experts from 35 countries to discuss sovereignty, modernization, and South-South cooperation. teleSUR

00:00Preparations are advancing in Shanghai for the Global South Academic Forum 2025,

00:04which will bring together researchers from Asia, Africa and Latin America

00:08around the role of the Global South in a new international order.

00:11Our correspondent Bruno Falsi brings us the details from the Chinese city.

00:16Hello comrades from Telesur and the audience following us in this transmission.

00:20I am now in Shanghai, in China, to inform you that everything is ready

00:25to the start of the 2025 Global South Academic Forum.

00:30Organized by the Institute of International Communication Research

00:34at East China Normal University, the forum was launched in 2023

00:40with the first edition in Shanghai, as we are here now,

00:46with more than 100 academics from 20 countries participated in it,

00:52leading to the Shanghai Academic Consensus.

00:55In 2024, the edition held under the term

01:00The Global South and World Modernization

01:03broke together more than 250 participants from 35 countries,

01:10consolidating a network that connect more than 1,000 researchers

01:15and experts from the Global South.

01:18The 2025 edition will address the victory of the anti-fascist war

01:25and the post-war international order, past and future,

01:30continuing the reflection on the historical and contemporary challenge

01:35of the international system.

01:37The forum also promoted academic initiatives, such as bilingual published series,

01:45the translations of work from the Global South

01:48and the Digital Sovereignty Index,

01:52which measures the country's technological independence.

01:57With these actions, China strengthened the collaboration between South and South

02:03and the cooperation between the Global South,

02:07promoting a more equitable and inclusive international dialogue.
