00:00Can Tyler Kolek seize the back-up point guard role, or should the Knicks look towards other
00:05options? My colleague, Seth and Bonnie, he suggested two names. One was Jose Alvarado,
00:09and then Dante Exum, and he looks at them as low-cost options that the Knicks could trade for.
00:14I don't think any of the three names you mentioned, including Tyler Kolek, are needed.
00:18Mikael Bridges has shown an innate ability. Now that Mike Brown has given him more on-ball reps
00:23to run the offense with that bench unit, he and Kat have the best pick-and-roll duo on the team,
00:29in the most points per possession in pick-and-roll, and he's shown himself to be capable of very high
00:34reads in Mike Brown's motion offense. He's proven he can start or finish a play within a flow of the
00:40offense or within designed actions. Right now, he's second on the team in assists with 5.3 a game,
00:46which is a career high for him if this continues behind Brunson's six-game. Last season, he only
00:51averaged 3.7, so having Bridges on ball also allows Deuce and Partson to hunt their mismatches and
00:58shots within the wheel of the offense. I think of all the players this season, Bridges has adapted
01:02the quickest to Brown's offensive identity, and he's been involved in a ton of ball screens,
01:07a ton of weak side actions when he's not on ball. He's been the primary recipient of handoffs and
01:12been excellent at all different kinds of cuts getting to the rim. And I think the options you
01:17named Bridges makes the most sense.
