00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04For some of you it's a relief, today will be drier if not brighter for a time but we
00:09do have rain topping and tailing the country and we have rain warnings in force throughout
00:14the day across southern parts of Wales yet again as well as the west country with some
00:19stronger winds. There's a trailing weather front here which extends down to another system
00:23which will push northwards bringing with it some heavy pulses of rain as we head through
00:27this morning into this afternoon. Rainfall totals continue to rise and that means river levels
00:32continue to rise as the land becomes even more saturated. The air turns colder from the north
00:38particularly across northern Scotland through this afternoon. You'll notice the difference
00:42in terms of that air temperature and the rain here will be slow moving just eventually reaching
00:48Northern Ireland later on. For the time being if you're stepping out first thing it's wet
00:53across northern Scotland as well as the west. Showery bursts of rain and this driving wind
00:57coming in from a cold direction. Southern Scotland seeing some brighter skies as the sun rises
01:04and a little showery rain can't be ruled out across the far north of Northern Ireland. Generally
01:08though it's a dry start to the day. Drier weather, brighter conditions for southern Scotland,
01:13northern England, even the far north of Wales. But then we run into more clouds across the
01:18North Midlands, the middle part of Wales and further south outbreaks of rain. So this rain again will be
01:25heavy at times as it extends from East Anglia, the middle and central southern England, the west country pushing
01:32in by around mid-morning across southern and central parts of Wales. The rain will be intense as it slowly
01:41moves northwards with a clearance coming in across the southeast later. At the same time around lunchtime,
01:47this area of rain will be drifting across the central and northern areas of Scotland. And then showers file in across the far
01:54north, help with that strong wind. And these showers could turn wintry over the higher ground over the next 24 hours. But notice across the
02:02central belt, a mix of clouds, some broken clouds with a little sunshine coming through and a fairly cloudy day, certainly afternoon for
02:10Northern Ireland and again windy along this north coast. But the rain will continue as we head through the afternoon, pushing in across
02:18northern England, covering most of Wales, the west country as well. And those rainfall totals continue to rise as it extends further north.
02:27Temperatures will still be on the mild side across England and Wales, but you'll notice the difference across the far north of Scotland, single figures through the next few days. It's going to feel cold in that wind.
02:37So if you're stepping out through this evening, notice the rain just pushing in across the southeast of Northern Ireland, covering the Isle of Man, Wales again, but the most intense
02:47burst now across Yorkshire as well as Lancashire. Now across the far north of England, most of Northern Ireland seeing some dry weather through the
02:56evening. But notice these showers streaming in across central and northern areas of Scotland. And that will be the name of the game as we head through this
03:03evening and overnight. So the rain makes inroads across Northern Ireland through this evening, southern and central parts of Scotland. Clearer skies across more southern areas through the night as this rain stalls across central Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and then another batch of rain just filters in across the southeast of England as we head through Thursday morning.
03:24Through Thursday then, there's three types of weather. We have that cold air across the far north and also those showers. And then this rain straddling central southern parts of Scotland, Northern England as well as Northern Ireland. A few showery bits further south as well.
03:39And then we run into this drier air with some brighter breaks through the morning on Thursday across mid Wales and Midlands, a legacy of clouds towards the southeast here as well. And that rain just comes and goes across Kent, perhaps Essex. Temperatures then through the afternoon, mid-teens across England and Wales on Thursday. Cold across the north. You can see temperatures here, eight or nine degrees Celsius and not feeling particularly pleasant under the clouds and the rain across southern Scotland, central parts, northern England as well as well.
04:09Northern Ireland. Now through Thursday evening, the rain yet again intensifies from the south and it pushes ever northwards as the winds pick up from a northeasterly direction. So some wet and windy weather on its way on Friday. More details, check out our deep dive this week. It's with Aidan McGiven and I'll see you again soon.
