Met Office forecasts heavy rain for parts of Scotland

The Met Office has issued a three-day yellow weather warning for ‘persistent’ rain in parts of Scotland.

00:00Hello, no Storm Dara this weekend, but there's still plenty going on, always something to

00:06talk about.

00:07And it'll be a weekend of contrasts when many places across the south in particular finally

00:12see a bit of sunshine.

00:13High pressure to the west, high pressure to the east, low to the north, low to the south.

00:17And it's this weather front which is sweeping away the cloud, or trying to at least as we

00:23go through the night.

00:24As we see the clearest skies across Scotland and Northern Ireland, it will turn a bit chilly.

00:28The weather front itself has a little bit of rain on it, but nothing too heavy.

00:32Staying quite murky and misty across the south, poor visibility on some of the higher routes.

00:37But the cloud will keep the temperatures up across England and Wales once more.

00:41So we're above freezing here.

00:43Some pockets of frost likely over Northern England and certainly in eastern Scotland

00:47through some sheltered parts we could dip down in the countryside to minus two, minus

00:52three Celsius.

00:53Some showers coming in across the far north of Scotland, quite a blustery, gusty starts

00:57to the day across western Scotland with some showers feeding in here and down through the

01:01Irish Sea.

01:02So the odd shower getting into north and west Wales.

01:05A grey start for east Anglia and southern England, so you may have to wait a few hours

01:10before finally the skies turn a little bluer after what's been a very grey week.

01:15We should see some decent spells of sunshine over the Midlands, eastern and southern England

01:18by the afternoon.

01:20Same goes for south Wales.

01:21The showers in north Wales tending to fade, but the cloud thickening once more in the

01:26north west.

01:27Another weather front bringing in cloud and rain to western Scotland and the west of Northern

01:31Ireland by the end of the afternoon.

01:33The winds picking up once more here too.

01:35Temperature wise tomorrow, well, six, seven, eight Celsius, generally in the south a touch

01:39below average.

01:40But because it's been so drab, I suspect a little bit of sunshine will make it feel a

01:45bit warmer than recent days.

01:48The winds, though, are going to strengthen further and that patchy rain will push southwards

01:52during Saturday evening.

01:53So turning a bit damp over southern Scotland, then northern England, and then we're into

01:58much more cloud spilling back in across the country.

02:01Some clearer skies across east Anglia in the southeast lasting well into the night will

02:04allow those temperatures to drop down into single figures, well into single figures.

02:09Whereas further west what we'll actually see through Saturday night is temperatures starting

02:13to rise.

02:14So by the time we get to Sunday, temperatures higher than they have been through most of

02:18Saturday.

02:19Some places starting Sunday in double digits.

02:22That's because that's a thickening cloud and the rain is coming in from a warm front

02:25and tucked in here, that's called a warm sector.

02:29So milder air is pushing in as this front moves through.

02:33So it is going to turn milder during Sunday, but those weather fronts also likely to bring

02:38quite a lot of cloud.

02:40Rain at times, chiefly over hills and coasts in the west.

02:43Many eastern areas will stay dry.

02:45It may brighten up at times, but generally we are back to those grey skies.

02:50It will be a lot milder, however.

02:53Temperatures in double figures across the board, 11 or 12 degrees Celsius.

02:56But it's also going to turn windy on Sunday.

02:59Some lively gusts of wind, especially over and to the east of the Pennines, but also

03:04in the northwest of Scotland where the rain will keep on coming through Sunday night and

03:09into Monday.

03:10This is something we need to keep a watch on because we're setting up what's called

03:13a warm conveyor belt and that moisture in here through Sunday lasting into Monday could

03:20actually drop quite a lot of rain as we go through Sunday night, Monday and even into

03:23Tuesday as these weather fronts just wiggle around.

03:25Depends on the exact location of those weather fronts, but it could be a very wet 48 hours

03:31in northwest Scotland.

03:32So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place from Sunday into Tuesday.
