00:00So, we've actually stolen real estate here for a refrigerator.
00:06I just love the way you say refrigerator.
00:08Frigerator.
00:09A refrigerator.
00:10Listen, you know, my meemaw called it a toilet.
00:13A toilet.
00:14A banana.
00:15Slept on her pillar.
00:17Mimi says, I'm naked.
00:19And get me a pen or a pen.
00:21Oh, I say them both the same way.
00:22Yeah.
00:23I just say pen.
00:24Who says that?
00:26Yankees.
00:27Woo!
00:28I'm Draven Co.
00:29An interior designer in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
00:33I bring pattern, color, and creativity into my clients' homes.
00:38Alongside my partner in crime, Chelsea.
00:40Whoa!
00:41An interior designer extraordinaire who also keeps me in check.
00:44Nope, no.
00:45Let's drag it.
00:46And my general contractor, Grumpy, who can build anything that we dream of.
00:49You don't need me?
00:50I don't need you.
00:51I love that.
00:52And also happens to be my dad.
00:53Oh, my gosh.
00:54This collar everywhere.
00:57Despite my name, my world is a rainbow.
01:00Be careful crossing that road.
01:02I always am.
01:03Hi, Dad.
01:04Morning, sweetie.
01:05How are you?
01:06I'm good.
01:07I've looked the plans over, but what's the family told you about the house?
01:11So this one is a 1950s duplex.
01:14Yeah.
01:15The entire family's living upstairs, so it's gotten pretty cramped, and they want to turn
01:19it into a single-family home.
01:21They want to de-dupe it.
01:22They want to de-dupe it.
01:23Yeah.
01:24So to get them started, we're going to just convert the downstairs.
01:26Hello.
01:27Hello.
01:28How are you?
01:29Hi.
01:30How are you?
01:31How are you?
01:32I'm good.
01:33It's a little tight.
01:34This is a little tight.
01:35Yes.
01:36Yeah.
01:37One of our biggest problems is as soon as you come in, you immediately feel cramped.
01:54We're all living in the upstairs apartment of this duplex.
01:58We have two little boys growing up very rapidly.
02:02We're so on top of each other that our littlest one sleeps downstairs because there's more space
02:06Oh, my goodness.
02:07And the best of us sleep upstairs.
02:09Yeah.
02:10And the dream is to make it one big single-family home and have lots of space to spread out
02:14and start feeling like we're actually living in a house instead of an apartment.
02:18Well, I don't know what's behind here.
02:20We're going to find out.
02:21But opening this up, opening that up, it's certainly doable.
02:25That would be great.
02:26That would be amazing.
02:27Can you tell us what's beyond these walls?
02:29Right.
02:30So it's essentially two-mirror duplex, two-bedroom, one-bath.
02:33It's got the 50s layout.
02:35The kitchen is in the back, hidden off by itself.
02:37And the two floors are essentially identical to each other.
02:40Right.
02:41Tell me a little bit about how you want to feel when you first walk into your house.
02:44Well, definitely, like, welcoming.
02:46You know, that sounds pretty cliche, but welcoming and bright.
02:49And right now when you walk in, it looks like a duplex, right?
02:52There's a door in an apartment immediately to your right when you walk in.
02:55I want this to really feel like the stairway of a single-family home.
02:59We just want it to feel bright, cheery, youthful, and timeless, I think is sort of our design aesthetic.
03:05Okay.
03:06I feel like because this is the first space that you see, you really want this to sort of set the tone for the rest of the home.
03:13I feel like this would be a really good space to do wallpaper in.
03:17Are there colors that you love?
03:19I love the combination of green and purple, or I like those kind of contrasting colors, really rich.
03:25What if we started in the hallway looking for a wallpaper that has muted purples, maybe?
03:31Just because you want the timeless feel.
03:33I feel like the softer purple would achieve that better.
03:36Maybe we can bring this color into the rest of the house.
03:39Yeah.
03:40So, would you like to show us the rest of the house?
03:42Yeah.
03:43Okay.
03:44All right.
03:45This is our current living room.
03:48We love it.
03:49We've got this big, gorgeous bay window.
03:51We love the fireplace.
03:53But really, I think what would be helpful is if it was more open to the foyer and then had some sort of natural flow, like it's meant to be part of a single family home.
04:04Well, the good news in all of that is those are simple things to make happen.
04:09We take this opening, we make it bigger.
04:12We make this opening bigger.
04:14When you do those things, the house feels bigger.
04:17While it's the same size, the foyer for sure will be three times the size it is now.
04:22Or we'll feel that way.
04:23Oh, great.
04:24I know this is kind of out there, but it would be really cool if we dip this entire space in this arsenic.
04:34Yes.
04:35Sure.
04:36You know, we don't have low ceilings, but they're definitely not high.
04:41Mm-hmm.
04:42And how the darker color making the room feel smaller, potentially.
04:45You know, actually what I have found is that if you paint the walls in a fun color and then you leave the ceiling white, your eyes go immediately to the ceiling, which make the ceilings feel low.
04:58If you take the color and you do it on the wall and the ceilings, it doesn't jump out at you as soon as you walk into the space.
05:04So I don't think you'll be sorry about that.
05:06Yeah, that sounds great.
05:07Yeah.
05:08Maybe we could just go right next door.
05:09Okay.
05:10So what are you thinking in here?
05:15Ideally, in my dreams, this would be our kitchen.
05:18We'd really love the big island so that when we're entertaining, someone could perch and sit and I could be cooking and talking or the kids could be eating there and just a really functional space.
05:28I don't know if that's possible.
05:30Magic wand.
05:31Yes.
05:32And where will you take the space from to make it bigger?
05:36That-a-way.
05:37Okay.
05:38But you can't have a nice big kitchen if you don't have a pantry to go with it.
05:42And I would guess that its pantry is going to live over this way.
05:45Can we go take a look?
05:47Yes.
05:48See what the options are there?
05:51Oh, wow.
05:53Yeah.
05:54You're right.
05:55This feels like an apartment kitchen, not like a house kitchen.
05:57Yes.
05:58The good news is, is it'll get a little bigger.
06:00Yes.
06:01It is.
06:02Well, we might just make that wall go away altogether.
06:05And this door with it.
06:07Cabinetry runs along the entire length of this wall.
06:10And that nice long island from your dreams is right down the middle.
06:14That would be great.
06:15And now that you've got these nice open spaces and you've got everybody coming over and you're having parties left and right, sooner or later someone's going to want to know where the restroom is.
06:26So you're going to need a powder room for this party house.
06:30Good point.
06:31We're going to take this kitchen space and we're going to reconfigure it such that you'll have a powder room that you can get to from the foyer.
06:38And then a little hallway that'll give you access to a pantry and a laundry room.
06:43Sounds good.
06:44Great.
06:45Okay.
06:46We've got one more space that we need to talk about.
06:48Show us the way.
06:49I'm going to go first.
06:50So you want a dining room?
06:53Yes.
06:54Here it is.
06:55Perfect.
06:56You like that wall?
06:57No attachment to that wall whatsoever.
06:59That's good because it's going away.
07:01So will some of this room be kitchen or will this all be dining room?
07:05It'll all be one big room.
07:06But I would love to transition into a different color in this room.
07:10I need a way to do that, please, sir.
07:12Yes, ma'am.
07:15So dining room, how do you want it to feel?
07:18Elegant enough that it feels like a grown up space, but still be a place where we'll be able to eat as a family.
07:24So it just has to be super functional for either purpose.
07:27Okay.
07:28So that we actually use it on a daily basis.
07:30Yeah, you don't want to have a dining room that's just there to have a dining room.
07:33Exactly.
07:34That's a complete waste of space.
07:35Yeah, exactly.
07:36It's a really, really charming house.
07:39I feel like Caroline in particular, I think she's going to be really open to having some fun in this house.
07:45Is there a timeframe here?
07:46Is there anything happening that we need to be out of here for?
07:50I'm turning 40 this year, and so I've kind of been thinking that it would be just amazing to be able to have, yeah, my 40th birthday party at our home when it's all redone and kick off the very first of a series of parties.
08:04I think that's very fitting for your party house.
08:06Yeah.
08:07We have five months until Caroline's birthday.
08:10Five months.
08:11We've got to move walls.
08:12We've got to do cabinetry.
08:14We have to create a whole kitchen where there is not a kitchen.
08:17I'll need a key from you.
08:18Do you have a key?
08:19Yeah.
08:20Oh, boy.
08:21Now, you know, once we start, you won't see this again until it's finished.
08:25You understand that, right?
08:26How does that make you feel?
08:28I'm fine with that.
08:29Mr. Control Freak is probably a harder pill to swallow.
08:33Yes.
08:34We've got to do it.
08:35We've been doing this for two years.
08:36We've just got to jump in the deep end.
08:37There you go.
08:38As long as we don't have any hiccups, we can do it.
08:43You just hiccup while you said hiccup?
08:45All right.
08:46We get packing, you start packing.
08:48Oh, good one, Grumly.
08:49That's a good one.
08:50So, demo's underway, but there's a lot to do.
09:02Dabney's had basically two homes in it all this time.
09:05Two kitchens, you know, two living rooms, two of everything.
09:08Because it's a duplex.
09:09And so, to turn it into a single family home, there's a lot of wall moving that has to occur.
09:15What'd you got there?
09:16Doing well.
09:17Jane Kirsting is one of our contractors on this project.
09:20Well, it is a surprise.
09:22Look at there.
09:23Used to be flat across.
09:24You didn't find a skeleton in there, did you?
09:26No.
09:27No bags of money.
09:28No skeleton.
09:29So...
09:30For me, it's really fun to come in on these days when the house is being, like, really pulled apart.
09:36Because I get to see what's behind the walls.
09:39What do you think it was?
09:41Well, we think it was a niche for furniture.
09:43So, Hutch seems most likely.
09:45Yeah.
09:46So, the next step is to take this wall out.
09:49Are you ready to get your hands dirty?
09:51Me?
09:52This one?
09:56Don't say a word.
09:57Ready for action, I see.
09:58Yep.
09:59All right.
10:00Take this.
10:01Okay.
10:02In between the slats of wood.
10:03And just pull.
10:08Woo!
10:09Do I think that gray is built for manual labor?
10:13Absolutely not.
10:15Shove it up there.
10:18Oh.
10:19Watch me demo this whole house.
10:20I don't love this.
10:23Okay, I'm done.
10:24Any time that there's a need for me to do manual labor, I excel.
10:28I excel.
10:31Is this the original paint color?
10:33Was this wallpapered at one point?
10:34It was.
10:35Wallpapered paint.
10:36That's cool.
10:37Multiple times.
10:38Those looks like, first it was green, and then it was pink.
10:41And then they wallpapered.
10:43And then they just painted yellow.
10:45We actually found green paint, which we're going to be using in the living room.
10:51We found wallpaper.
10:52It's cool to be able to see a bit of the history of the house that's hidden behind the walls.
10:59Over the history of this house, it's seen a lot of color.
11:04And it's about to see a lot more.
11:05Our team's got the demo complete.
11:21The crew have got all the drywall out, and their foyer's been reframed.
11:25And the stairwell, while still in the same place, has been reconfigured.
11:30And the foyer feels much more open now.
11:33So, looking forward to seeing the bones of the house and seeing what we've got to do next.
11:38Good morning, Bradley.
11:39Hey, welcome.
11:40You guys have been busy since I had my nose under this tent.
11:43We've got it all opened up, and we're putting it back together.
11:46Yeah, it's looking nice and clean and straight, which is the way I like to see it.
11:49Yeah.
11:50So, we've got a nice big open foyer.
11:52It's not going to be quite as open as it feels right now, because we've got a wall that's going to occur here in a bathroom, right?
11:57Yes, yes.
11:58We have a powder bath that's going to go right in here, and it kind of sits up underneath the stairs.
12:02Okay.
12:05So, one of the situations we ran into here is we have to remove the center of this wall,
12:10because the entire floor system is sitting on the center wall plus the roof system.
12:16We found that some of the walls that we thought we could just get rid of, the second floor will go boom.
12:23So, we still have to do the whoosh, but we've got to avoid the boom.
12:28So, our existing lobe-bearing wall that runs down the length of the middle of the house is going to have to be reconfigured.
12:36The openings aren't going to be where they used to be.
12:38That's correct.
12:39So, all the framing we're talking about here today, how far out do you think we are?
12:44A week?
12:45Yeah, probably a week and a half.
12:46We have to put in the new walls here that define the spaces, rebuild everything.
12:51All of this kerfuffle with the framing is going to cost about two weeks of time.
12:57Okay, bud.
12:58Thank you very much.
12:59Thanks for coming by.
13:00See you soon.
13:01So, we had a little hiccup with the framing.
13:10Hello.
13:12There were some things buried inside the house from the way it was originally framed that wasn't apparent until things got opened up.
13:20Well, things have moved a little bit since I was here last.
13:23The framing issues, plus the kerfuffle that we had with building inspections that took longer than perhaps they might have, has cost us this time.
13:33And so, we're going to see how things are going.
13:35So, gas is inspected.
13:37Gas is inspected.
13:38Electrical is ready for inspection?
13:41Ready for inspection, yeah.
13:42Inspections are a necessary evil in construction, and it's a check to be sure that everything has been accounted for.
13:50Electrical, plumbing, any gas.
13:53And in Charleston, they can't happen all at once.
13:56After framing adjustments and waiting on inspections, this process has taken us two months.
14:02So, it sounds like we're probably hanging sheetrock week after next.
14:07That would be the hope.
14:08I think they should be able to insulate next week, and then they should be able to start hanging.
14:13Somebody eventually has to feel the pain of that, and it'll be Gray and Chelsea.
14:19But we're going to make that time up and get out of here on time.
14:33This is going to be a whole different house.
14:35Between the framing, the government, and their permits, we are finally getting into this place.
14:41It's about time.
14:43I'm excited to get in there and see the new footprint of the house,
14:46because we'll really be able to get a good idea of what the house is going to feel like spatially.
14:51Yes.
14:52And then see if all these ideas are going to work in reality.
14:55I am stoked.
14:56We'll see how stoked you are when I show you what I have in mind.
15:00It's a beautiful little entry.
15:02It's something that I wish I had at my house, and I don't.
15:04A foyer is just lovely.
15:05Yeah.
15:06The fact that this was, like, able to be opened up is going to give her exactly what she wanted.
15:11The foyer is a lot more functional now.
15:13The first time we walked in here, it was very difficult to even have a few people standing.
15:17Now it's a lot more comfortable to be in here.
15:19Yeah.
15:20So I brought a few wallpaper samples.
15:23Brought this one, which is sort of, like, pink and purple.
15:26Caroline really loves purple.
15:28It's, like, her favorite color.
15:29And so I felt like purple really should be the first thing that greets her when she walks in the door.
15:34You know?
15:35It's a bold decision.
15:36For me, this is the winner.
15:38It feels fun.
15:39It's, like, a great shade of purple.
15:41And it's timeless.
15:42So I want to do a purple trim.
15:44I just have to decide if I want to do the lighter purple or the darker purple.
15:48I want it to feel sophisticated while still being purple, which is, like, it's a hard task.
15:56Purple is the color of royalty, but it's normally done in a castle.
16:01Yeah.
16:02This is too electric.
16:04This is too light.
16:05Please don't read sophistication if that's what we're going for.
16:08You know?
16:09You want to see it?
16:10Yeah, you can hold it.
16:12It's a very pretty tone of purple.
16:15Yeah.
16:16So we're going to go with the darker trim.
16:18This wallpaper that feels timeless and elegant.
16:22That feels sophisticated.
16:24And it's going to take very simple colors and elevate them the whole way through.
16:29It's so beautiful.
16:30Let's talk about the powder room before we go into the living room.
16:34When we talked about the powder room, they wanted something that was functional but also really fun and funky.
16:39Yeah.
16:40So it feels like the perfect opportunity to, like, really lean farther into that purple for her here.
16:46We have not just leaned in.
16:48We have fallen to the floor.
16:49I do have a little thing that I saw.
16:52It's a wall-mounted concrete sink that's dyed lavender.
16:55Oh, my gosh.
16:56This is, like, probably literally the same.
16:58Hold on.
16:59This looks like the same exact color as the trim.
17:01Look at that.
17:02Oh, my gosh.
17:03Oh, my gosh.
17:04I do think this paint color is going to be too dark.
17:07So if we can just get them to lighten the same color.
17:11Yeah.
17:12We can really lean in to the purple.
17:14And I love a concrete sink.
17:16A sconce could be really good, too.
17:18This is going to be really good.
17:19Yeah.
17:20Let's go look at the living room.
17:21Okay.
17:22I'm very, very excited about how this room is going to complement that, but also transition to the kitchen.
17:29Yeah.
17:30Purple in the foyer and the green in the living room, which I think it's really nice that she chose that color.
17:36And we get to sort of pay homage to what the home was when it was first built.
17:41Yeah.
17:42I love that idea.
17:43This says arsenic, and I know what the color that is.
17:47You're insane.
17:50Because she wants to really have this room feel, like, bright and colorful and cheerful, there's only one green that's in my brain.
18:02That's insane.
18:05Great.
18:06We always take things into another level, but this is, oh, my gosh.
18:11Let her dry.
18:12Great.
18:13We've only used this color on floors before.
18:16Give her a minute to prove herself.
18:18All right.
18:19This, I don't know if this is a reasonable color.
18:25Don't get me wrong.
18:26Okay.
18:27Hear me out.
18:28I love arsenic.
18:29Hold on.
18:30I'm going to show you.
18:31Sometimes your choices are quite bold, and they scare the dar out of me.
18:37Boring.
18:38I don't love those.
18:39Smooth fest.
18:40Wow.
18:41Shows velfer.
18:42It makes my belt feel extra tight today.
18:43I go through phases.
18:44It's like excitement, terror.
18:45Happiness and joy.
18:46Trying to find someone that agrees with me, and then making it work.
18:47And then it's beautiful at the end.
18:48Yeah.
18:49It's always, always annoyingly beautiful at the end.
18:51Oh, thanks.
18:52When they're separated by trim, it might actually help to make it feel a little bit better.
18:55It's contrasting.
18:56These colors are light and bright, and then it's got the dark in between.
19:01Technically, I don't really think there's a really good reason why this works together.
19:08There's no science behind it.
19:09You have to use your heart.
19:10And it looks good.
19:11I like it.
19:12It looks really pretty.
19:13And I don't know why it's always annoyingly beautiful at the end.
19:16Oh, thanks.
19:17When they're separated by trim, it might actually help to make it feel a little bit better.
19:19It's contrasting.
19:20These colors are light and bright, and then it's got the dark in between.
19:22Technically, I don't really think there's a really good reason why this works together.
19:25There's no science behind it.
19:26You have to use your heart.
19:27And it looks good.
19:28I like it.
19:29You like it.
19:30And I don't know why I like it.
19:32I don't either.
19:33But I really, really do.
19:34I know it's going to be good.
19:36I just don't know how yet.
19:38Another thing that happened when we were in the walkthrough is that I told the dad
19:41me that I wanted to do a full dip in this room so that the ceiling would sort of just
19:46go away and it would make the room feel bigger.
19:48However, now that I'm in the space and I see the beams, I feel like it's something that
19:53I want to highlight instead of hide.
19:55So we'll lean into the arsenic green for the walls.
19:58But on the trim and the ceiling, I want to do a nice cream color that shows off the beams.
20:04We'll do a neutral rug and then pull in a purple sofa that ties in the color from the foyer.
20:10And then use wood tones for the other furniture and then colorful art that ties into the kitchen.
20:16That's going to be really nice.
20:18Let's figure out how we transition it.
20:20Let's do the kitchen.
20:21Kitchen.
20:22Kitchen.
20:23Alright.
20:24So kitchen, dining room.
20:26Let's focus in on the kitchen.
20:27When we first walked into this house, Caroline and David had the teeniest little kitchen tucked
20:34away in this little corner that you have to find.
20:36But now it's going to be like a main focal point of the house.
20:41We talked about a yellow.
20:43So this is a bit of a bolder option.
20:47And I like to pair it with an ivory on the walls.
20:50I need another paintbrush.
20:51Oh.
20:52That's a comb.
20:53That's a different kind of brush.
20:55That's not popcorn.
20:56There is.
20:57It's so.
20:58I get snacky.
20:59There's really another.
21:00There's another brush with popcorn in it.
21:05Stop it, Gray.
21:06What's not in that bag is the question.
21:10First answer to that question is I have no idea.
21:13Clearly.
21:14I think I feel it.
21:16It's like a clown car.
21:18It's just things keep coming out.
21:20Ridiculous.
21:21This is a softer, creamier yellow.
21:24It's popcorn color.
21:25Oh, my gosh.
21:27Is there any way we can maybe add some wood tones?
21:32So David originally was very afraid of having a yellow kitchen
21:36because he didn't want it to feel like a country kitchen.
21:39I think some people have nostalgic references back to their childhood
21:43that they think of and they associate with certain things.
21:46I mean, color does not define style.
21:49Here, I'll give you some options.
21:51Well, I.
21:52You're welcome.
21:55Found that down the bottom of the bag.
21:56Oh, that was a cheesy one.
21:59Yeah, that's really beautiful.
22:01I really love that.
22:02The style of the cabinetry, the hardware and the fabrics and all the other things.
22:08It's going to be a modern looking kitchen with some soul.
22:12So basically what floors will stay the hardwoods.
22:15Mm-hmm.
22:16There's going to be beautiful buttery yellow cabinetry.
22:18It's going to separate the dining room from the kitchen.
22:21But it's also going to create so much storage.
22:23An island will be nice right here in the middle.
22:26Brass, wood and cream accents.
22:29Put some bar stools.
22:30Agreed.
22:31Agreed.
22:32I love all of this.
22:33And now the question is, how do you make a dining room fancy but also casual?
22:37Well, let me tell you.
22:38All right.
22:39There you go.
22:41I'm such a nice lady.
22:43Okay.
22:44I'm really excited about the dining room.
22:46There's a wallpaper that I wanted to use for a very long time.
22:49Don't look at it.
22:50We've been wanting to use this forever.
22:52I love this paper.
22:54I feel like, okay.
22:55It's got the purple and the yellow.
22:57It's got the arsenic green.
22:58Yes.
22:59What I was about to say.
23:00And it's got the creamy background to go in the kitchen.
23:03It is, as my dad would say, the rosetta stone.
23:07Oh.
23:08So in this room, we're going to wallpaper.
23:10We're going to find a beautiful buffet and bring the same yellow trim into this room.
23:15Maybe lacquer a piece of furniture.
23:18Lavender tones.
23:19Yeah.
23:20I think it takes it up a notch.
23:21A beautiful chandelier and have a dining room table that really takes the cake.
23:25I got out of my car to show this too.
23:26So you've been leading me on the whole time because you knew you had this in your back pocket.
23:31See?
23:32You just got to trust.
23:34All right.
23:35I'd feel better if we got in some AC, though.
23:38We are one month away from install at this point.
23:47It's gone slow between weather and framing issues.
23:50So we've really got to get to it.
23:51Oh my gosh.
23:52All right.
23:53Hello, Calvin.
23:54Hello.
23:55Hello there.
23:56Today we're going to go see Calvin.
23:58We have these beautiful stools that we just got in.
24:01And we also have some really lovely fabric that we want to get them upholstered with.
24:05You changed the colors.
24:06Yeah.
24:07It's pretty.
24:08Gray Bancote, she has once again blown my mind and customized this fabric.
24:14It has every single color that's going to be in the Daphne's house.
24:17The cabinets are yellow.
24:18It needs to run that way.
24:19I think I like it like that.
24:21Yeah, because the cabinet is sitting back behind you.
24:23It needs to go up to the cabinet.
24:25If this man says it goes this way, then it goes this way.
24:28I agree with Calvin.
24:29It's gorgeous.
24:30So, but anything we can pick him up in like a week and a half-ish?
24:33Sure.
24:34Won't be no problem.
24:35Bye, Calvin.
24:36Bye-bye.
24:44I'm really excited to get into the Daphne house because cabinetry is going in.
24:51And we get to see the footprint of their kitchen, finally.
24:59Oh, my goodness.
25:01It's so nice to see these cabinets in here and the color.
25:04I feel like it's coming together.
25:06Okay, wait.
25:07I have a question.
25:08That was me feeling panicked.
25:09I still feel scared about this island.
25:11We need to go as far as we can this way with the oven still being able to open.
25:16Correct.
25:17I'm just nervous about once we do the hangover.
25:21It's right here.
25:22And then the bar stool.
25:23Are you sitting?
25:24I'm trying to.
25:25Yeah, see?
25:26Between your butt and the wall is not a lot room.
25:29Let's not get so aggressive.
25:31So 36 inches is standard minimum between two pieces of kitchen furniture, let's say.
25:39So cabinetry to cabinetry.
25:41And this is over that.
25:42But it is very, very tight.
25:44It's like a two butt kitchen.
25:46And that's about it.
25:47One butt kitchen.
25:48Ow.
25:49That's.
25:50You need to get out of it.
25:51You got to bump butts to get by.
25:53Yeah.
25:54If we brought the island in slightly, and then maybe instead of doing a traditional 12 inch
26:00overhang, we brought that down to maybe 10, even maybe eight inches.
26:05It could really make this feel like it's got a lower profile.
26:10Yeah.
26:11The good news is the island is here and it's placed, but it's not secure.
26:15So we can, once the stone gets on there and we get the countertops and everything's set officially,
26:20we can make sure it's perfect.
26:22Yeah.
26:23All right.
26:24I got to go home.
26:25Okay.
26:26That sounds great.
26:27Things are moving quickly.
26:28The cabinetry is in, so that's great.
26:30Yes.
26:31But we really have to make sure that we keep the speed up to make sure that things are
26:35happening on time so that we can hit the deadline that we need to hit for this project.
26:40And it's coming up quickly.
26:41And making me nervous.
26:42This project has been a bit of a doozy, but we have really big things happening right
26:59now.
27:00We've got paint going up.
27:02Cabinetry is going in.
27:04We are just one week away from finishing up and I could not be more excited.
27:09Oh boy.
27:14Chelsea.
27:15Why did you say, oh boy?
27:18Because it's not the right color.
27:20I mean, the arsenic is the right color.
27:23It's just not in the right ways.
27:25So let's play opposite day.
27:28Everything that's painted arsenic was supposed to be cream.
27:33Are there people even available that can fix it?
27:36The fireplace and the ceiling was supposed to be the same cream that's going to be in
27:40the rest of the house.
27:41Okay.
27:42All right.
27:43Well, I kind of loved some of the changes that the painters made.
27:48That's a way to be positive.
27:51Okay.
27:52This is what I want from you.
27:53Completely blank slate.
27:55You now have a room that you're standing in and you can look at it and once again make
28:00a decision seeing a lot more of the color in the room.
28:04What would you do in a perfect world?
28:07How does her process go?
28:10Um, she walks around the room.
28:14She thinks about every possible situation.
28:17So that's where it turns purple.
28:20Right.
28:21So you'll be standing in this room and you'll see green trim, purple trim, yellow trim.
28:28Does that feel insane?
28:29You know?
28:30I'm so sorry, friend.
28:32Have you met Gray Benko, my business partner?
28:35The lady with the pink sofa in the rainbow house?
28:38I mean, I think there's going to be plenty of color in this house.
28:41Chaos and color kind of our thing.
28:44She ponders and thinks and thinks and ponders and then finally comes to a conclusion that
28:50no one else on the planet would come to.
28:52Hi, girl.
28:53What you doing?
28:54Hey.
28:55I'm coming in.
28:56Why?
28:57Why?
28:58I feel like we're going to get in trouble.
28:59No.
29:00You should feel like you're already in trouble.
29:01For once we didn't do it.
29:03Okay.
29:04You can fix anything, right Grumps?
29:07I don't know.
29:08Now that I'm in here, I think it was a happy accident because I actually think that the
29:14arsenic on the trim is really nice.
29:17Looks really, really nice.
29:18I'm very lucky to have Gray Benko as my business partner.
29:22She will probably die if Cher hears me say this, but not everybody gets to work with somebody
29:28who, in my personal opinion, is like a color genius.
29:31The walls are going to be arsenic.
29:33We need to paint the fireplace and the ceiling the cream color that they were supposed to
29:38be and everything else can stay the same.
29:40All right.
29:41Well, let's get to moving.
29:42Okay.
29:43Thanks.
29:44Thanks.
29:45All right.
29:46Let's go.
29:53Calvin.
29:54Hello.
29:55Hello there.
29:56Today, we are going to get six dining room chairs with skirting.
30:01Very excited about the skirting.
30:03And four stools for the island.
30:05And that is why we brought Grumpy to get some muscle.
30:09All right.
30:10So you got some stools for us?
30:11Sure.
30:12I have a few of them.
30:13They're all boxed up, ready to roll.
30:14I see no boxes, Calvin.
30:15Oh my gosh.
30:16Those are fun.
30:17It's beautiful.
30:18Those chairs belong to the Dabneys and they were in bad shape.
30:30And so a really quick fix to fix drabby chairs is you can reupholster them for almost nothing.
30:36Like totally were able to breathe new life into these chairs by just changing the fabric.
30:41Calvin, these are beautiful.
30:43Thank you so much.
30:44Yeah.
30:45They got the mini skirt.
30:46They got the mini skirt.
30:47They got a mini.
30:48The piping's got a little pop to it too.
30:51It honestly looks more expensive.
30:53And so if you can upgrade your details just a little bit by adding a contrasting piping or a fun little skirt, it changes the look of everything and also elevates the style.
31:03Even I noticed it and I'm just a mule.
31:05Oh my gosh.
31:06All right.
31:07We got it.
31:08Thank you, Calvin.
31:09Y'all welcome.
31:10Thank y'all ladies.
31:11Oh, that's really heavy.
31:12Stop it, Chelsea.
31:13Oh my gosh.
31:14I thought we were playing Tetris.
31:18Oh, that was quite sweet.
31:30There is a ton of work happening at the Dabney House.
31:33The trim has been painted in the foyer, the powder room and the dining room.
31:37The painters are here fixing the ceiling and the fireplace paint.
31:41The island is locked into its new position.
31:44The new hood is looking great.
31:46All the cabinets are almost in and Chelsea is going to check on the progress.
31:51Hey.
31:52What?
31:53Look at this kitchen.
31:54Look.
31:55Let me see.
31:56Let's see.
31:57Let me see.
31:58Let's see.
32:00And the island is perfectly placed to the stove.
32:05Moving it that little bit, that tiny little bit, it made all the difference.
32:09It's much, much roomier in here and it looks great.
32:12I'm so smart.
32:13Are you?
32:14Where are you at?
32:15I'm in my office.
32:16That's a beautiful view.
32:18Okay.
32:19Well, I think that I'm going to move on and go look at the wallpaper.
32:22All right.
32:24Melissa.
32:25Chels.
32:26You're right here.
32:28Hi.
32:29Good morning.
32:30It's here.
32:31Oh my gosh.
32:33Oh no.
32:34This is a wallpaper that we have dreamed of using for years.
32:39I mean, it's gorgeous.
32:41This natural lighting in here, it's going to be beautiful.
32:44It's going to be so amazing and I cannot wait to see this in the space.
32:49Let's go look at the foyer.
32:52It's so pretty.
32:56It's amazing.
32:57The purple on the ceiling looks perfect with the paper.
33:00I love it with all of my heart.
33:03I'm just obsessed.
33:05This is so classy looking.
33:07Yes.
33:08I was having a hard time picturing the ceiling being purple also, but it ties everything together.
33:12I think it looks like it was always meant to be purple.
33:14It's really nice.
33:15It's really, really nice.
33:17Everything looks so good, but there is still so much to do.
33:20Thank you for always coming through.
33:23You're the best.
33:24I'm going to get out of the way so these cabinet guys can do all the finishing touches.
33:28The built-ins also need trim.
33:30Some of the wallpaper still needs to be hung.
33:33The living room is being repainted today.
33:36I'm not stressed at all.
33:37All right, everybody.
33:49Hey.
33:50How's everybody feeling?
33:51So, okay.
33:52So, Grumpy has put us in a bit of a pickle.
33:55I thought you liked pickles.
33:57Celesta?
33:58Not the kind you can't eat.
34:00We don't like those pickles.
34:02Clearly.
34:03Long story short, there was framing issues.
34:06Things being delayed, which puts people in our direct vicinity while we're trying to do our thing.
34:12It's crazy in here, right?
34:14Yeah.
34:15It's complete chaos.
34:16It seems like there's some, like, table setting stuff missing.
34:19Do you see the napkins?
34:20Maybe there's some stuff still on the moving trucks.
34:23I don't know how we're going to get this done in the next, like, how many hours do we have left?
34:26Yeah, the good news is we fixed your mix-up on the paint.
34:29No, no, no, no, no, no.
34:32Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:33Not our mix-up.
34:34Doesn't matter.
34:35The paint's good.
34:36The trim is good.
34:38It's going to be great.
34:39It is going to be great.
34:40We just need to, like, less talking, more doing.
34:43So, yes to this mirror.
34:45It's beautiful.
34:49I love it.
34:50It goes well with the paint colors.
34:52I think so.
34:53Yeah.
34:54I need to start pulling things that I can get up on these shelves.
34:59Chelsea, you need to start pulling the furniture and telling people where everything belongs.
35:04Yes.
35:05Make sure that there's any extra lamps anywhere.
35:08And, Dad, you need to fill in where is necessary and also be mentally prepared to get furniture in place.
35:16Yes.
35:17Completely agree.
35:18Laura!
35:19I'm going to need a break after this.
35:22How's it going, fellas?
35:24Let's be very honest.
35:25Please.
35:26When it comes to the clutch moments, Grumpy always comes through.
35:30Oh, you brought the chairs?
35:31Yeah.
35:32Okay.
35:33Thank you, Dad.
35:34So many shelves.
35:39So, this house has a lot of shelves.
35:40Oftentimes, when I style shelves, I find that the best thing to do is to start with the books.
35:46Because books, they're practical.
35:48They take up a lot of space.
35:50And it's good to help ground objects.
35:53So, I get all the books where they feel balanced.
35:56And then I come in with the objects and the art afterwards and start to fill in the holes as I see them.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Sometimes even you pull the colors off of the art onto the shelves.
36:08Like, it's really, it's more intricate than you think it is.
36:11I think that if we put this lamp in this corner and we have that lamp in this corner, that's enough lamps.
36:18I'm starting to realize just how much there still is to do.
36:22There's a lot to do.
36:24No, to the right.
36:26More.
36:27More.
36:28More?
36:29That's not true, Dad.
36:30The clock is TikTok-ing and we don't have a lot of time to do it in.
36:41I'm excited for them to see the living room.
36:44I feel like we took a really big chance with that arsenic color.
36:48It's so bright.
36:49But I'm so happy with how it turned out.
36:52Hello!
36:53Hey!
36:54Somehow, we were able to finish it.
36:56I mean, I can't believe we got it done.
36:58I might have slept for an hour and a half.
37:00Are you nervous?
37:01Like, the good kind of Christmas morning nerves.
37:03But I could not be happier with how it turned out.
37:05It's just, it's so bright and colorful and happy.
37:09And I can't wait to hand their house back over to them.
37:12The amount of change that has happened since you guys were here last,
37:15it's a completely different home than the home that you gave us the keys to.
37:18And I'm just so excited for you guys to see it.
37:20We're excited too!
37:21I know.
37:22Is it the time?
37:23Are you ready?
37:24Yeah!
37:25Okay.
37:26Well, let's go.
37:27And y'all first.
37:32Oh my gosh!
37:34It's so good!
37:37You really wanted the space to feel classic, but colorful.
37:42And you said purple was your favorite color.
37:44So I really feel like the wallpaper that we chose, it was a homeroom.
37:48It's so neat.
37:49It's so pretty.
37:50Yeah, and look, we can all fit inside of it.
37:52There's plenty of room for all of us.
37:53I know.
37:54This looks amazing.
37:57Okay.
37:58So we're happy in here.
37:59Yes.
38:00So we were able to, right behind that purple door, find a powder room for you.
38:04Would you like to see it?
38:05Yeah, let's do it.
38:06Yes.
38:07Oh, wow.
38:08Whoa.
38:09That's great.
38:10Oh, look how cute it looks.
38:11Look at our sink.
38:12It's purple too.
38:13Is the sink cement?
38:14It is.
38:15Do you love the purple sink?
38:16Yes.
38:17It's so fun.
38:18I am obsessed with that.
38:19That is so cool.
38:20Look at the sconces.
38:21Yeah, it looks great.
38:22They look so good.
38:23How cute.
38:24All the little details are so cute.
38:25See the teeny tiniest rug you've ever seen.
38:26I love it.
38:27All right, let's go see the living room.
38:28We went for it.
38:29Okay.
38:30But I think it's really beautiful.
38:31Yeah.
38:32Can I look now?
38:33Yes, you can look.
38:34Oh my gosh.
38:35I don't even know where to look.
38:36Look at this.
38:37Oh my gosh.
38:38Look at the couches.
38:39I know.
38:40This looks so good.
38:41Can I touch this?
38:42Yes.
38:43Do whatever you want.
38:44This is so pretty.
38:45Oh my gosh.
38:46This is amazing.
38:47Yes.
38:48It's completely transformed in the exposed beams.
38:53Having that extra height really makes it feel bigger.
38:54It does, yeah.
38:55Like I didn't expect it to feel this big.
38:56It was just right.
38:57David, how do you feel about the arsenic?
38:58As with the purple, I was kind of thinking, you know, how's that going to go together?
38:59But it's great.
39:00I love it.
39:01I love it.
39:02Oh my gosh.
39:03Oh my gosh.
39:04This looks so good.

39:06This looks so good.
39:07Can I touch this?
39:08Yes.
39:09Do whatever you want.
39:10This is so pretty.
39:11Oh my gosh.
39:12This is so pretty.
39:13Oh my gosh.
39:14This is amazing.
39:15It is.
39:16It's completely transformed in the exposed beams.
39:18Having that extra height really makes it feel bigger.
39:19It does, yeah.
39:20Oh, how's that going to go together?
39:21But it's great.
39:22I love it.
39:23A color like this.
39:25It's so bright, but it goes away because it's not about the walls.
39:29It's about the vibe of whole space.
39:31You know, the whole room is just a vibe now.
39:33Standing here and like looking through into the purple is one of my favorite things.
39:38Yes.
39:39Really, really amazing.
39:40My cheeks hurt from smiling.
39:41Oh yay.
39:42Like I could not have imagined it would turn out like this.
39:44We can actually have more than two people over at our house now and have a nice time
39:49entertaining people.
39:50Sure.
39:51Well, you know, as nice as this space is, you know where people congregate.
39:54In the kitchen.
39:55Yeah.
39:56They congregate in the kitchen.
39:57Everyone always wants to be in the kitchen.
39:58Yeah, that's right.
39:59Let's go see what we got.
40:00All right.
40:01Oh my gosh.
40:02This is so pretty.
40:03Oh my gosh.
40:04This is so pretty.
40:05I mean, it looks great.
40:06Here it is.
40:07Oh my gosh.
40:08I'm going to cry.
40:10This is so pretty.
40:12This is like absolutely beyond.
40:15This is amazing.
40:16Oh, wow.
40:17Look at all of our things are on display.
40:22Like all of our stuff looks like grown up stuff in here.
40:26Oh my gosh.
40:27Oh, look at the subway tile.
40:30Oh my gosh.
40:31Look at all the hardware.
40:32This is so pretty.
40:33It's yours.
40:34Okay.
40:35So I know you guys were worried about the yellow feeling like it would give country kitchen
40:40vibes.
40:41Does this feel like a country kitchen?
40:42No, not at all.
40:43No.
40:44This is completely timeless and elegant.
40:46Yeah.
40:47And I love the unlacquered brass.
40:49It's so pretty.
40:50It's so, so pretty.
40:51This is amazing.
40:54I love this.
40:55I think there's enough room over here.
40:57There's plenty of room in the middle because it could have been like tight.
41:00There's plenty of space to entertain in here.
41:03And then it's so open to this space.
41:04So like people can just kind of be in and out.
41:06There's a really good flow.
41:07I think.
41:08It's opening up between two spaces like this makes them both bigger.
41:13Love it.
41:14Are you guys ready to see the dining room?
41:16Yeah.
41:17Yeah.
41:18Okay.
41:19Okay, let's go.
41:20Let's go see it.
41:21Oh, wow.
41:23Oh my gosh.
41:25Like this is a proper dining room.
41:29Look at this wallpaper.
41:30This is it.
41:31You drew all this.
41:32I did.
41:33Oh my gosh.
41:34This is all framed out like so nicely.
41:37Look at this.
41:38Look at this rug, how well it goes with everything.
41:40I know.
41:41And it goes with the marble on your furniture piece that we painted.
41:44Oh, I didn't even recognize it.
41:46Look at that.
41:47This room was destined to be a dining room.
41:49It was.
41:50Yeah.
41:51It was.
41:52No doubt.
41:53Like the happiest formal dining room.
41:54It's so happy.
41:56It doesn't feel like we get to live here.
41:58I can't believe we get to live here.
42:00The way that this house started to what it is today.
42:03It's hard to believe it's even the same house.
42:05You're only lacking one thing.
42:08What's that?
42:09And that's a way to get into it.
42:11Keep it.
42:13I have to hug you again.
42:14Thank you guys so much.
42:15We trusted you guys from the get-go and the result is just spectacular.
42:19We'll get out of your way.
42:20Bye guys.
42:22Just walking and seeing all that color, seeing how it all came together.
42:26It just made our jaws drop.
42:29What do you think?
42:31I just like felt right when we opened the doors.
42:34You know, it's like, oh, you see this.
42:35And then, oh, you see this.
42:36But you see the middle and the anchor and it feel, it all feels right.
42:39Happy birthday, Mama.
42:41Kids can go upstairs.
42:43They can have some space up there.
42:45We can relax in here with our friends.
42:46I think it's just going to be really, really nice to have that room to grow and spread out.
42:51Just a minute and see what's behind the window and flow the jar on the items because that's
42:57true.
42:58You know, big lovin' like, all the lights out.
