00:00I am so so so excited to get into Elliott today. Me too. I feel like you have lipstick on your teeth real bad again. Oh my gosh. Sorry. Hello guys. It looks like you have braces with red rubber bands. Now give me a stank of tissue. Don't use my dress. Dang it.
00:26Woo. I'm Gray Benko, an interior designer in the low country of South Carolina. I bring pattern, color, and creativity into my clients' homes alongside my partner of crime, Chelsea. Whoa. An interior designer extraordinaire who also keeps me in check. Nope. No. Let's drag it. And my general contractor, Grumpy, who can build anything that we dream of. You don't need me? I don't need you. I love that. And also happens to be my dad. Oh my gosh. This collar everywhere.
00:56Despite my name, my world is a rainbow. Hello. Here at last. What are you talking about? I've been waiting on you. Oh please. You want to leave it? Not even for a second. No, that's not quite true. Okay. So this is Brittany and Chase Elliott. Yes. Their house is already really cute, but they are ready to add a whole lot of color.
01:26It's a beautiful 1920s home. And they have sent me some photos of what their house looks right now. And they have a really fun, funky style, very like pop party. But they just haven't had the opportunity to make their house feel like them. And so here we are.
01:42Here we are. Welcome. Hi. How are you? Hi guys. After today, we're going to be asking them to hand over the keys to their house and just really trust us to do exactly what they want. And they're going to be staying at her parents' house.
01:56So they're not going to know what they're going to get until they get it. No pressure.
02:01We are so excited. Oh my gosh. So your home is so charming. Tell us a little bit about it.
02:07So it was built in the 1920s and it's a kit home, which was popular back then. Lots in this neighborhood are very long and narrow. So they turn the house sideways, which is why we have the two front doors.
02:18And why our fireplace is on the front of our house. That checks out. Yeah. So tell us what you want to do here.
02:25We bought this house when we were engaged. So since then we've gotten married, we've had a kid. It's just lacking color and it's sort of like a blank canvas right now.
02:35We really want to spruce it up. Okay. And what do you feel like is your style? I lean toward funky but sophisticated. I'm not afraid of color. I think he's on board too. I love that. Yeah.
02:48So in terms of timeline, our son is turning four soon and we'd really like to give him a big boy room for his birthday.
02:57Hopefully with bunk beds. Is there going to be a surprise big boy room? Yes. Okay. I love that.
03:02Obviously we love color. We love to have fun in spaces, but we also really love surprises.
03:08So the fact that they're willing to hand us over their keys for the next three weeks so that we can give them this amazing surprise in the end is something that I'm very excited about.
03:20Where do you think is the best place to start?
03:21Well, we're in the living room now, which is one of the rooms that needs some help.
03:25Okay.
03:26There's no really designated playroom in our homes.
03:29So storage.
03:29Storage is a big thing.
03:31Are you open to built-in so we can create some storage?
03:35Definitely.
03:36You've got enough distance between the corner and these doors so built-ins will tuck right in there.
03:42And a window seat will look really nice.
03:44Thinking about colors, are we open to all things?
03:47I'm open. We do want to keep our sofas.
03:50Okay.
03:51So anything that complements that.
03:52What about the rug?
03:53We're open to replacing it.
03:55Okay, perfect.
03:55Do you like your ceiling fan?
03:57No.
03:58That's good. I was going to say it won't survive her.
04:00All right.
04:02I feel like we have a good handle of this room.
04:04If you want to show us where to go next.
04:06Right this way.
04:10So this is the dining room, which as you can see, it's limited seating.
04:14No big parties happening.
04:16No.
04:17So we would love to have at least a six-seat option.
04:21As always, we are looking for storage.
04:23So then probably a banquette from the edge of this to the edge of that.
04:27And then would you maybe consider replacing this window?
04:30Because it has a hole in it.
04:33I don't know if you noticed that.
04:34Yes.
04:35There is definitely a water issue.
04:36I don't know if we can solve that.
04:38You can fix anything.
04:39You can fix anything.
04:40Yes.
04:41Right.
04:41You can fix anything.
04:42That's what I needed to hear.
04:43That's true.
04:43Anything can be fixed.
04:45Yes.
04:45So how do you feel about wallpaper?
04:49I would be open to wallpaper.
04:51I don't want it to be too formal.
04:52Yeah.
04:53I think you could probably find a fun wallpaper.
04:56I like fun.
04:57Yeah.
04:59So maybe have our color palette be somewhere in this.
05:02I like that.
05:03You're curious what I think?
05:05Nope.
05:06Well, okay.
05:07I won't tell you that I like it then.
05:09You do like it?
05:10Of course I do.
05:10Yeah.
05:11How about the ceiling?
05:13Mmm.
05:14There's not a natural break.
05:16Unless we wanted to add one.
05:17We're going to have to put some thought into the ceiling.
05:20Okay.
05:20You want to talk about the kitchen?
05:21Sure.
05:22Yeah.
05:24Okay.
05:25Do you have any specific needs in the kitchen?
05:28We would love to do some window treatments.
05:31Okay.
05:31That's obviously an easy way to tie it in with the rest of the house.
05:35The black cabinetry.
05:36I don't have a problem with the black.
05:38Okay.
05:38We can bring in pops of the color that we go with
05:41to sort of tie it all together.
05:43Does that sound good?
05:44Yeah.
05:44Chase?
05:45Yeah.
05:45Okay.
05:46That's all the downstairs.
05:47Is there anything upstairs you want us to look at?
05:49Yes.
05:50Okay.
05:50Will you lead the way?
05:57Oh, this has nice light.
05:58Yes.
05:59Our bedroom, it does get a ton of light.
06:01It's funny because the ceilings are fairly low,
06:04but it doesn't feel like that because of how much light.
06:06No, this is less than eight feet.
06:09It's like seven foot six.
06:10Oh, you've done this before.
06:14Okay.
06:15What do you want to change in here?
06:17Some of this furniture we've had forever.
06:20We'd like to keep the blue bed.
06:22Okay.
06:22What do you want your bedroom to feel like?
06:25Calming.
06:26Comfortable.
06:27From all that partying downstairs.
06:29Right.
06:29We need a safe place.
06:31We need a safe place.
06:32A safe place.
06:32Yeah.
06:34Okay.
06:34So it's not a lot that has to change,
06:37but I feel like the room is going to completely transform.
06:40Yeah.
06:40That's great.
06:41What's next?
06:42Our son's room right across the hall.
06:43Okay.
06:44All cute.
06:49So this is our son's room.
06:51So this is the secret big boy mission.
06:54Yeah.
06:54Yeah.
06:55So you talked about bump beds.
06:57Yes.
06:58We could do some fun built-ins in this corner.
07:01Yes.
07:01Father, don't...
07:03Don't what?
07:03Don't poo-poo my idea.
07:05No, no.
07:05I'm just thinking about you don't want people conking their head when they sit up in the bed.
07:09But you can figure it out.
07:11Oh, yes.
07:12Of course.
07:12Great.
07:12Love that.
07:13That's all I needed to know.
07:14It's just math.
07:15Is this a room we're open to wallpaper in?
07:17Sure.
07:17I think he would like a lot of color.
07:20Does he have a favorite color?
07:22Currently, it's red.
07:24Okay.
07:24What if we did sort of like this color family?
07:28Yeah.
07:28Really drawing inspiration from the rug.
07:30It also pulls in a lot of the colors from downstairs.
07:33Yeah.
07:34I like that.
07:35This could be really cool.
07:36Yeah.
07:37He'll love it, I hope.
07:37We have a birthday surprise that we have to make happen, so...
07:42Do you have a house key?
07:43I do.
07:44Well, you hand me that.
07:46That way we can get in and you can't.
07:49Them handing their keys over to us really allows us to be as creative as we possibly can.
07:56But this timeline is way shorter than what I'm used to, so I'm kind of terrified, to be honest.
08:02You typically get it all done the last three days of the project anyway.
08:05Well, that's true.
08:06So today we get started with what construction there is to be done on Elliot.
08:18There's not a great amount, but there are some windows on the ground floor that have got
08:23a little bit of rot in them and a little wonkiness that's going to get fixed.
08:29What's going on here?
08:31Hey.
08:31How are you?
08:32Good to see him.
08:34Doing well.
08:34Doing well.
08:35What have you guys found over here?
08:36Well, we found the bottom sill is rotted out.
08:40How about wall framing adjacent to it?
08:42The wall framing looks okay.
08:44Our Jackson Kings look okay.
08:46The damage to the windows appears to be somewhat superficial.
08:50A couple of the sills are rotted, but it's very manageable.
08:54That looks like it's got negative slope.
08:56It's almost negative.
08:58Yeah.
08:58I have a little handy dandy tool right here.
08:59You can prove it.
09:00Yeah.
09:01So let's see.
09:011.6 where it should be closer to 10.
09:07So this one is definitely coming out.
09:09It's got a little frowny face going, too.
09:10It does.
09:11It does.
09:12With the windows, given the age of this house, it's a surprise that so little must be done.
09:19So it should be pretty quick work, unless Gray and Chelsea show up with some unexpected chaos.
09:28We'll see.
09:29We have about two and a half weeks left before we give the Elliotts their house back.
09:41Yep.
09:42We've already gotten all of their stuff out of the house.
09:44The small amount of construction that needed to be done is done.
09:46And now Chelsea and I get to get in there with our colors and our fabrics, the wallpapers,
09:51and really start to hash out what the final product is going to be while we're actually standing in the space.
09:56Let's start over here.
09:57Chelsea is an interior designer extraordinaire with the rare ability to understand my vision,
10:05which is difficult to pull out sometimes.
10:10After talking to Brittany, she said this is going to be their main living space.
10:14So they want a fun, comfortable place where they can all sort of gather.
10:18Makes sense.
10:19And to me, especially when you consider the color of the sofa, blue is the way to go.
10:24So we have four blues.
10:25It's one thing to dream up something in your head, and it's a completely different thing to see it in the actual room where it's going to live.
10:33That's the tip of a lifetime right there.
10:36Every room has its own light signature, I would say.
10:39And so every color looks different in every room.
10:43These definitely check cozy.
10:46This definitely checks fun.
10:48This might check both.
10:50But we have to make sure that whatever color we pick is going to work with the green sofa, but the green sofa is no longer in this room.
10:57Or is it?
10:58Hold, please.
10:59Okay.
11:00Don't worry.
11:01Perfect.
11:02It's just a wee little pillow.
11:04Oh, my gosh.
11:08Top left is our answer.
11:10It complements the green nicely, and then it checks all of her boxes.
11:15I agree.
11:16I feel like it's going to be a really good balance in the space.
11:18You're going to have these beautiful cabinets painted full dip with the sofas, little table, blankets, pillows.
11:28And the light fixture that's in the dining room, we're going to paint red, and we're going to put it in here.
11:33I love it.
11:33Okay.
11:34Next room.
11:37Okay.
11:38Are you making fun of my waddle?
11:40I'm a little bit.
11:41Okay.
11:41Okay.
11:42So new table, new chairs, new rug, a banquette, wallpaper.
11:46Move that light fixture into the living room, and then this is the fabric that is going in the banquette.
11:52The fabric for the banquette is yellow, and they have a really fun and funky vibe.
11:57I love it.
11:58It is perfect for them, and it brings some color in from the wallpaper.
12:02Anytime you can pop some yellow up, it's going to be good.
12:04But I am really struggling on how to make these wiggle lines and dots into something beautiful.
12:10You talked about painting the banquette the same color as the cabinets.
12:13We can see what it looks like, but I have an alternate suggestion, and I want to see what you think about it.
12:19Okay.
12:20This is just not my cup of tea.
12:22I'm sure you're going to do great things with it.
12:23I just don't know.
12:24Well, listen, if you look at their art and everything that they have in their home, their taste is clearly very, like, pop-arty.
12:32And I feel like this wallpaper feels very much their style.
12:37It's going to go really well with all of the things that they already have.
12:41And I think, more than anything, it ties in the black with all the other colors that we want to use really, really beautifully.
12:49No, it's too stark.
12:50That's exactly what I was going to say.
12:51It's too stark.
12:52So, let's try this green.
12:54I'm not really sure of this, but I am sure of you.
12:58And so, I'm just trying to trust you on this.
13:00There's first time for everything.
13:02We will see.
13:03I will be honest, when you first told me these three things were going to go together, I was where I read.
13:11Mm-hmm.
13:13And now I'm 90% in.
13:16You know, I feel like until we see it all come together, it's always like a hold-your-breath moment.
13:22But we've never been sorry.
13:24I was going to say, if you don't take big chances, you don't get any big rewards.
13:28This is going to be the most fun dining room.
13:31The banquette stripe.
13:33Wallpaper with the fun pops of color.
13:36There's a lot going on, so let's keep the chandelier neutral.
13:40But we're going to need to create separation on the ceiling, because this ceiling is going to want to be white, and this ceiling is going to be a full dip of the blue.
13:47Yeah.
13:48There's not a natural breaking point between the living room and the dining room, so we need to make one.
13:54Well, it's easy.
13:55I mean, there's a beam going right through the kitchen anyway.
13:58Let's just turn it the other direction and mimic it.
14:01I think it'll be very, very pretty.
14:03My legs are asleep, so we're heading to the kitchen now.
14:07Okay.
14:07Oh, I'm very interested to see how you pull this together, because how do we bring color into the kitchen with the black cabinetry?
14:13Right, and they really love the cabinets.
14:15It's one of the first big changes.
14:17And they're beautiful.
14:18And they're made in this house, and I feel like the key in pulling it all together is the wallpaper.
14:23It's been a hard one to really fall in love with, but I think I'm coming around to it.
14:28The wallpaper has bits of the black, and it has bits of all of the other colors that we can tie in, and I think it's going to make that space really fun.
14:36So just having the wallpaper in here alone is going to start to bring color in.
14:41Right.
14:42But I'm going to show you something that I was thinking for the windows.
14:45Not in the plan?
14:47I mean, it was in the plan in my head.
14:52Let's continue the trim color into the kitchen.
14:56Another thing is cafe curtains.
14:58Cafe could be really cute.
15:00It's a common sense way to bring color and pattern into a kitchen that doesn't have any color and pattern.
15:06So we're going to bring the wallpaper and get a ton of art.
15:09Paint the trim, get fabric to bring color in on the shades, fun light pictures.
15:15And a rug.
15:16Yeah, we'll need to do a new rug.
15:18Okay, so should we go upstairs?
15:19Yeah, two rooms left.
15:20A lot of decisions.
15:21Yeah.
15:23All right, primary bedroom.
15:25They want this room to feel calming and comforting.
15:29It's a bedroom.
15:30It's their bedroom.
15:30You know, they want it to be cozy.
15:32Yeah.
15:32Yeah.
15:33We're keeping their bed, which is like a lighter blue velvet.
15:37It's a good bed.
15:38And I feel like the blush tones will look really good with it.
15:41So let's just toss a couple of the samples up on the wall.
15:45For the primary bedroom, I pulled one of the prettiest colors that I could even imagine for a bedroom.
15:50I'm so excited because they're keeping that beautiful blue bed up there.
15:54Those colors pop against each other, so it's going to be good.
15:58The first one feels in the same tone as the blue.
16:02The middle one is definitely a no, while the third one feels too dark.
16:08Let's go with the one on the left.
16:10This one was my first instinct.
16:12So we're going to do a full dip.
16:15Keep the bed.
16:16Pick out some curtains.
16:17Replace the ceiling fan.
16:20Get furniture.
16:21And they have a red rug that we could try to keep in here.
16:23Ooh.
16:24So I love the thought of that.
16:25It's going to be nice.
16:26Want to go to Helms' room?
16:27Let's go to Helms' room.
16:28I'm really very, very excited about that one.
16:32Okay.
16:32Last room.
16:34So this is our wallpaper.
16:36It's so cool.
16:38Let's pick trim color.
16:38This is, let's start with the one that I think I'm going to like.
16:41Red is Helms' favorite color.
16:43We wanted to find a wallpaper that could grow with them over time and then pull color out
16:49of the wallpaper for the trim because it's funky and fun, which we know that Elliot's like.
16:57You're about to spill that paint.
17:00Okay.
17:01I know my vote.
17:02All right.
17:02It's this one.
17:08It's the best.
17:09Yeah.
17:10So let's talk about the bunks.
17:12Okay.
17:13So we have enough space to do two extra long twin bunks.
17:17Inside, we're going to put sconces.
17:19There will be a little tiny bookshelf and it will have a built-in dresser on this end.
17:24That's going to be so cute.
17:25I know.
17:29It's everywhere.
17:30You owe me a dress.
17:32You leaned into the paint, for the record.
17:34Because there was 84 bottles open at one time.
17:37You can show your husband when you get home what color red we painted.
17:40But I think it was all worth it in the end.
17:42Yeah.
17:43See for yourself.
17:44We know what red we're going to use.
17:45I feel like this house is going to come together.
17:47And hopefully we can get it all done in time for Helms' birthday.
17:51Might as well just dump this on my head.
17:53I need a bath.
18:01Painting has started at the Elliot house.
18:02And the trim piece that's going to separate the living room from the kitchen is going
18:07up.
18:07It's going to take a few days before we can get in there because the painters are going
18:10to need to prime everything and then paint.
18:13So we are going way out to Wyatt's Cattle Creek cabinets to discuss a couple details for
18:19the cabinetry.
18:21Have you been out to the shop yet?
18:22I have not been out to the shop.
18:23It's an adventure.
18:25You get to see a really cool shop, all of this stuff.
18:28And it's literally near a Cattle Creek.
18:30You'll have to hold your breath.
18:31There's also donkeys.
18:33You're going to have a glass.
18:35What do we need to talk about today?
18:37The banquette.
18:38Yes.
18:38And we need to talk about the cabinetry and bookshelves that are going in the living room.
18:43Yeah.
18:43So I want to do this wavy scallopy thing on the bookshelves.
18:47But I need you to see it and make sure we both think it will work.
18:51I already love it.
18:53Are these white silos up here?
18:55Yep.
18:55And there's the doggies.
18:58It feels like we're going to go see Santa's workshop a little bit.
19:00It kind of does.
19:02It's for the magic.
19:03You ready?
19:04Yeah.
19:07Come in.
19:08Hello.
19:09Wyatt.
19:09Look at you.
19:10You've got Elliot up.
19:11Sure do.
19:12Perfect.
19:13Today's a good day.
19:14Okay.
19:15So we ordered the bits to make these tambured panels.
19:19Yeah.
19:19So this is the dining room.
19:21Yeah.
19:22Except the cabinets will be different.
19:24Those drawers will be invisible because the...
19:28Tambour.
19:29Tambour?
19:30Tambouring.
19:31Tambouring is where you create bumps on the outside.
19:35Fluting is where you create bumps going down inside.
19:39So this is what it's going to look like.
19:41Yeah.
19:41Well, so these are...
19:42Very big though.
19:43These are the one-inch tambours.
19:45On the banquette, we're going to do an inch and a half.
19:48We're getting tambouring done on the banquette bench as well as the cabinetry panels in the
19:53living room so that it just kind of flows together and balances well.
19:57We're mirroring it.
19:59But Wyatt can do it.
20:00No big deal.
20:01Yeah.
20:01Yeah.
20:02So I want to talk to you about the built-ins.
20:05Okay.
20:06So this is what we're dealing with.
20:07Yeah.
20:08That's cool.
20:08You said you wanted the sides to be scallop.
20:10I just need to know how wide do you want them and then what kind of curves do you want.
20:14Okay.
20:14Hold on.
20:15Yeah.
20:15I think I have two.
20:17So if this is the face frame, this would be a scallopy wave that went like this the whole
20:23way up.
20:24And I know this is not exactly CAD work, but...
20:28What are you talking about?
20:29That's exactly what we want them to look like.
20:31Can you just put this into your machine?
20:33Yeah.
20:35Yeah.
20:36Okay.
20:36Yeah.
20:37Adding the scallop edges to the cabinetry in the living room was such a great idea.
20:41Yeah.
20:42The fact that he can pivot when we change our mind is really magic.
20:45We are really excited to see how it's all going to come together.
20:47Painting is coming along and I am so excited to get in there and see what it's starting
21:00to look like.
21:00I know.
21:01And see what it's starting to come to life.
21:02It's painful.
21:03Best day ever.
21:05It's going to be good.
21:06I'm excited.
21:07If it's not, what do we do?
21:08We repaint.
21:10Woo!
21:11They got further than I thought.
21:12Oh, the color looks good.
21:14That's why you hire quality contractors.
21:17True.
21:17Like us.
21:19Oh my gosh.
21:20I already have paint on myself.
21:22Well, here we are.
21:23I feel like this color is perfect.
21:25It's going to give them everything that they ask for.
21:27It's going to be fun.
21:28It's going to be cozy.
21:29It's going to make for a great place to gather.
21:31It's a lot of fingers.
21:34The green sofa is going to be perfect with it.
21:36It is.
21:36The key was finding wallpaper that ties in the black, but is also the foundation for all
21:42the other color that we bring in in the rest of the house.
21:44Speaking of in the rest of the house.
21:46Well, let's go see.
21:47We can't go that way, so we do this way.
21:49Okay, let's go.
21:51Oh.
21:53Look at this.
21:55The paint looks really good.
21:56I'm glad that we did the green.
21:58Me too.
21:59I really love it.
22:00And the bench will be there, and it'll be green, and now our pretty little beam that separates
22:04in my brain.
22:06This was going to be the color of the ceiling.
22:08But I think it's cool.
22:12If we hadn't put that there, the ceiling wouldn't have worked.
22:14By the way, this has got to come down and go red.
22:17And these are all still up.
22:18Well, they're not electricians.
22:20That's true.
22:22Okay, I have a pink room to see.
22:25Oh, that looks good.
22:29I've been dreaming of painting something this color.
22:33This is great.
22:33If you're sleeping in this room, and this being like your safe, cozy spot, this is going
22:38to feel good in here.
22:39It already does.
22:39This is going to be a mood.
22:41Let's make our mental list of everything we need for this room.
22:43Okay.
22:44So we have four drapery panels coming in.
22:46Mm-hmm.
22:47We need to find an antique piece for over here.
22:49Do we have to have an overhead light?
22:51I'm not excited about the flush mount.
22:53I think we may need to just get a cap and put beautiful lamps.
22:57Oh, she has beautiful lamps.
22:58She has lamps already.
23:00This feels kind of romantical.
23:02Oh, you want to hug me?
23:03No.
23:04I'm not a big toucher, but I really love this color.
23:08Can we go see another one?
23:09Yeah, let's go look at something.
23:11We just need to measure for the bamboo blind.
23:14Yes.
23:14And then we can do what we want the rest of the day.
23:16Love that.
23:1728 and a half.
23:19Are you writing this down?
23:21Yeah.
23:22I am.
23:24By 52.
23:27Look, I forgot about those.
23:28They were on these windows that are the same size as those windows, so we can reuse them.
23:33Well, that's good.
23:34I'll grab them.
23:34Let's see if they...
23:34Because I don't want them to get paint on them.
23:36The curtain rods from Helms' room are exactly what we need for the primary bedroom.
23:41Let's save some money.
23:42Yeah.
23:42Let's put them somewhere in the plastic.
23:44Put them somewhere safe.
23:46Ah!
23:46Things are moving fast.
23:49Paint and wallpaper probably will be done when we come back.
23:52And I'm cautiously optimistic we'll be done in time for Helms' birthday.
23:57Okay, let's go.
23:58I'm headed over to Elliot.
24:08I'm looking forward to meeting Gray and Chelsea there and see how progress is coming along.
24:14Wyatt has installed the living room cabinets with the scalloped edges and timbreed faces along
24:21with the banquette in the dining room.
24:23Wallpaper is in, or is at least in process.
24:26And an upstairs in Helms' room, the bunk beds and the dresser have been installed.
24:31So it's getting very close.
24:33And I'm expecting to see it nearly done.
24:37Hello?
24:42Where is everybody?
24:43Well, lo and behold, I walk in the house and the two people I expected I'm coming there to
24:48meet are not there.
24:52What?
24:53Hey, bro.
24:54Where are you?
24:55I'm in my car.
24:57Why are you not here?
24:58Great.
24:59Throwing up because she's sick.
25:01Kelvin has the upholstery ready to have the truck and life happens.
25:07Well, I drive up here two hours and nobody's here to greet me.
25:11I'm very upset.
25:12I'm sorry.
25:12Well, let's just take a little walk through.
25:15Let me show you this dining room.
25:17What does the wallpaper look like?
25:18I haven't seen it in person.
25:21Oh, I like it way better on the wall than that little tiny sample.
25:26What do you think, Grumps?
25:28I think it looks good.
25:29You needed the black dots.
25:31Without the dots, the cabinets would have been a problem.
25:33Yes.
25:35It's getting there.
25:35But we need our lunch cab room.
25:38But can we go see the wallpaper upstairs, please?
25:41Sure.
25:42I mean, I'm here by myself.
25:44I got nothing else to do.
25:45I can go upstairs.
25:47I don't know why I've got to be the arms, ears, and legs for these girls.
25:51You know, I'm running up and down the stairs.
25:54I mean, they're half my age.
25:56Why do I have to do that?
25:57I don't know.
25:57But we've got to show them how their job is going.
26:01Where's the wallpaper?
26:04Seriously, it's all taped up like a crime scene.
26:09Yes, it is.
26:10Are they still prepping that bed?
26:11Yes.
26:12Okay.
26:13So I bet you, honey, that the wallpaper girls just couldn't get in there.
26:18I'm going to text them and make sure that they can come back.
26:20Well, I can tell you, these guys are doing a really nice job on this.
26:26If you see all this yellow, they're filling this.
26:28Now they'll come back and they'll prime it again.
26:31And when this is all said and done, it's going to be really nice.
26:34Always have to have faith.
26:35All right, kiddo.
26:36Hope everybody feels better.
26:38Love you.
26:38Bye.
26:38Bye-bye.
26:39The fans and the lights still need to come down from the ceiling.
26:42And the bunks still need to be painted.
26:44But really, the only thing holding us up at this point is getting the wallpaper finished.
26:49But you just can't imagine what the finished product is going to be until Grand Chelsea
26:54place the furniture and get the last little details in.
26:58I'm hoping they can get it together because we've got to be done for Helms' birthday.
27:02Gray isn't feeling very well today, so it's all me going to check on the banquette cushion.
27:17And I really can't wait to see how it looks.
27:19Hey, y'all.
27:20Hi, Michelle.
27:21How are you?
27:22I'm wonderful.
27:23How are you doing?
27:23I've missed you.
27:25Missed you as well.
27:26Calvin is one of those people that he just makes you feel good when you see him.
27:30Yes, ma'am.
27:30There it is.
27:31I see it.
27:32Oh, that's the one.
27:33Holy moly.
27:34I thought it was those blue ones back there.
27:36Get out of town.
27:37He's always playing jokes on me, and then he likes to see me panning.
27:41Holy moly, that's pretty.
27:43Yes, ma'am.
27:43Turned out lovely.
27:44It is.
27:45How?
27:45As usual.
27:46You can't even see a seam.
27:47Yeah.
27:48It's so long.
27:49How are we getting this in my car?
27:51That's what we're thinking about.
27:52Let's go cut it right down the middle.
27:54If you cut this in half, I want half off.
27:58It is really big.
28:00It's ginormous, actually.
28:02And we're going to need a big old truck to haul this thing.
28:07I didn't wrap it, because I was going to see how you were going to go with it.
28:10I really think that what we're going to have to do is deliver it, because it's not going
28:13in my car, but it is really pretty.
28:16This banquette is gorgeous, and it's going to tie the kitchen together perfectly.
28:20We'll figure it out.
28:21We always do.
28:22I know you will.
28:22Not out the state.
28:24We cut it in three.
28:24We cut it in three pieces.
28:25We're not cutting it.
28:26You cut it out.
28:35This is the day I have been looking forward to the most.
28:38I know.
28:39The day has arrived that the wallpaper is up.
28:41You sure?
28:42I mean, if that room is red, I'm going to cry when I go home.
28:45I was definitely not expecting to have to see the whole thing red.
28:49Yes.
28:49It was a shock.
28:50Yes.
28:50It was a little bit of a shock, but also a happy accident.
28:54So sometimes when you say, please prime the walls, they pick whatever color they want.
28:59But it actually is a nice solid surface for the wallpaper to go up on with no lines to bleed
29:04through.
29:04Red is just their favorite color.
29:05Yeah.
29:06But at least we know it started.
29:08So let's go up and see what it looks like.
29:10Oh my gosh.
29:12Hey, Polly.
29:13Hi, Grace.
29:14How are you?
29:14It's so good.
29:16It looks so much better than the bright red dungeon room.
29:19I agree.
29:20This completely transformed everything.
29:22It's beautiful.
29:23And it hung well.
29:23Good choice.
29:24It was so red in here.
29:26Not anymore.
29:27I do think we need to bring in some antiques to bring those wood tones in.
29:31And then the wood blinds will bring in.
29:33There's some more wood tones.
29:34Earthy tones.
29:36Oh, we need knobs on those drawers.
29:38We just need to find some simple brass knobs.
29:42But this room is amazingly cool.
29:45I just think why I love it so much is that it has a sophistication to it that's going
29:50to mature with them.
29:51This is not baby room.
29:53No, it has the coolest vibe.
29:55Polly.
29:55Bravo.
29:56Yay.
29:57I love it, too.
29:57I think he will as well.
29:59It's perfect.
29:59It's really cute.
30:01I agree.
30:01I am so proud of ourselves because we're on schedule.
30:04Not only does it look amazing, but we are on schedule.
30:06I even would dare say we're ahead of schedule.
30:08I think we actually are.
30:10First time for everything.
30:11First time for everything.
30:12I love it.
30:13Let's not count our chickens before they hatch.
30:16We still have to shop.
30:17We still have to style.
30:19We still have to do all the last minute thingy-mabobbers.
30:22Don't ruin my vibe.
30:33Don't drop it.
30:34We are down to the final hours, and there is so much to get done today.
30:41There's lots of stuff to get up on the walls.
30:43There's curtains, lights, and shades to install.
30:46Bedding, rugs, and knickknacks to still figure out.
30:48But, of course, in typical fashion, I woke up this morning to chaos.
30:56I talked to the lady, and she said we can do the dining room table and the chairs, and if they don't work, we will switch them out again.
31:05Well, we just have to pick whichever one is the best option.
31:08I discovered that the dining room table is not going to arrive in time, so Chelsea is out scrambling to see if she can find another one.
31:21But I don't have any idea what we're going to do if we can't find something.
31:25Where's my dad?
31:26I have so many other things to worry about that I cannot even think about that right now.
31:31I just have to trust that Chelsea's got it.
31:33Garrett?
31:34Yeah?
31:35There might be some trial and error with this a little bit.
31:39Yeesh.
31:41This is hard.
31:43Deliots have collected so much great art over the years, so it's really good because we have so many things to pick from, but it's also really bad because there's so many things to pick from.
31:52Hello?
31:56Just the person I needed to see.
31:58There's a voice I know.
32:00I'm trying to hang a gallery wall.
32:02Oh, brother, what do you want?
32:04You're good at, like, packing a car, so you should be good at this.
32:08Should be.
32:08Okay.
32:09Hold that up, Garrett.
32:11And then that one can go there.
32:14There.
32:15I got two arms.
32:17Let's do it.
32:18Dad, go help Garrett.
32:19If you would like to explain Grace's process for putting together a gallery wall, I couldn't possibly tell you.
32:27She couldn't tell you either.
32:28I could kind of.
32:30No, well, you just make it happen.
32:32Sorry, guys.
32:33No, you can't.
32:35You want me to tell you how I do it?
32:37Please, tell me.
32:37You pick the cornerstone piece, and then you pick the next one, and you just fill it in like a puzzle, and you make sure it's all evenly weighted visually, and then it's like Tetris after that.
32:50It's like a puzzle, but it's not a puzzle with a predefined answer.
32:53It's like a puzzle that you make up as you go along.
32:55Yeah, and you can't really do it wrong.
33:00Hey.
33:02Hold on.
33:03I found a perfect table.
33:06I've sent you pictures, okay?
33:08Let me hang up.
33:09I'll call you right back.
33:09Okay, bye.
33:10Bye.
33:11So Chelsea called me and has saved the day because she has found the exact dining room table that's not going to be delivered in time.
33:19The only catch is that we have to take the one from the showroom floor, but it's in perfect condition, and we get it at a discount.
33:26Okay, bye.
33:27Okay, bye.
33:28So crisis averted once again, just proving further that chaos reigns.
33:36Right?
33:36I don't like that.
33:38Hey, Greg.
33:39Hello.
33:40Dining room table's on the way.
33:42Look at these two rugs.
33:44That one's better.
33:46This one?
33:46Yeah, I think so.
33:47How many snacks did you bring?
33:51Ah!
33:53I feel like chaos drives me.
33:56Like, I thrive in chaos because I've had to learn how to for all of these years.
34:02That does here.
34:04Okay.
34:05It's like when you're in college and you stay up until 4 a.m. the night before.
34:09You write your essay.
34:10You didn't do that?
34:11I did not take this advice.
34:13Did you do your essays ahead of time?
34:14Of course I did.
34:15I did not.
34:16Okay, let me grab a bowl.
34:18This rug is not working out with where that light is.
34:22Working with Gray and Chelsea can be vexing at times.
34:27You took the peg out of one shelf and that's how you fixed it?
34:30Yeah, that is correct.
34:31That's not helpful.
34:32It is helpful.
34:33It can be innervating.
34:35Invigorating?
34:37Innervating?
34:37Innervating as in innerv.
34:39Nerve.
34:39Innervating.
34:42Nobody knows what they're doing until they've done it.
34:45But it works.
34:47We couldn't do it without you, Grumps.
34:48Yeah.
34:49I wonder how many light bulbs we'll be missing at the end of the day.
34:51Nope, nope, nope.
34:55Let's drag it.
34:55Great, great.
34:56You don't need to clean those windows over there.
34:58Did you just tell us to clean the windows as you're eating your salad?
35:02Yeah, somebody needs to do it.
35:03Senior Grumpy Pants is over here having a nice Caesar while the rest of us are working.
35:09Oh, Dad, I need another peg.
35:12We've got a couple more hours of really, like, pushing to the finish line, but I think my work
35:16here is almost done.
35:18And I think that we're going to make Helms' birthday extra special this year.
35:22Cute or creepy?
35:23Creepy.
35:24Why does everybody hate clowns?
35:30All righty.
35:31Well, I think they're on the way.
35:34They should be here by now.
35:35So today is a big day.
35:37Well, it certainly is.
35:39We got it done, and we got it done in time for Helms' birthday.
35:42That's right.
35:43Hi.
35:44Hey.
35:45Oh.
35:45They have to be nervous right now because they don't know whether their expectations will
35:50be met or if they will be overachieved.
35:54We'll find that out here shortly.
35:56Welcome back.
35:58Thank you so much for getting it done in time.
36:01Yeah, I'm excited for you guys to see.
36:03Absolutely.
36:04You guys want to do it?
36:05Have a look.
36:06You want to see?
36:07Let's go.
36:07All right, let's go.
36:09Let's go.
36:11Come on in.
36:15Wow.
36:15Wow.
36:17I love the blue.
36:19Oh, my gosh.
36:20Wow.
36:21It looks so different, but it's beautiful.
36:23I love how you used a lot of art, but the stuff you found fits so perfectly with our style.
36:32Mm-hmm.
36:33Oh, that's good to hear.
36:34I used some of your stuff in the bookshelves, too.
36:36Cute.
36:36That's the storage we definitely needed.
36:39Yeah.
36:39And Chelsea did such a good job.
36:41I know.
36:42I mean, they're just so fun.
36:43The scallops are so pretty.
36:45And the waved edges really add whimsy to it.
36:47A lot of visual interest.
36:48It's nice.
36:48Yeah.
36:49It's amazing to see the transformation.
36:52The coffee table is perfect for a four-year-old, too.
36:55Exactly.
36:56It's soft.
36:57He's not going to bump into it.
36:58He is going to jump from couch to coffee table to couch.
37:02Exactly.
37:03Over and over and over.
37:04Over and over and over.
37:06Oh, the light fixture.
37:08I just noticed.
37:08Yeah.
37:09That looks so cool.
37:10Yeah.
37:10Oh, this is ours, too.
37:12Yeah.
37:13Look at this cabinet.
37:15That is so cool.
37:17So you like it?
37:17Yes.
37:19Oh, my God.
37:20I can't wait to see the rest of it.
37:21Yeah.
37:22You want to see the kitchen?
37:23Yeah.
37:23My heart's racing.
37:24Okay, let's go this way.
37:25Let's go.
37:27Come into your kitchen.
37:30Wow.
37:31Oh, my God.
37:32Oh, my gosh.
37:35Look at the gallery wall.
37:37Yeah.
37:38It's so cool.
37:39It's all your art.
37:40Look at the wallpaper.
37:42The little lights.
37:44They're fun.
37:44Mm-hmm.
37:45And the cute little cafe curtains.
37:47Wow.
37:48Oh, my gosh.
37:48It looks so good.
37:50Yeah, it's a good touch.
37:51It was a challenge to transform the kitchen without changing the cabinets, but I really feel
37:56like...
37:56You transformed.
37:57Yeah, it's transformed.
37:58It's a totally different side.
38:00Yeah, I love the green color.
38:03The trim color?
38:04Yeah.
38:05Yeah.
38:05I love it.
38:06Well, we started with the wallpaper first, so it was sort of our guidebook.
38:10But the black cabinets tied the rest of the house together really well, I think.
38:16Yeah, it used to be so black and white, and now it's so cool.
38:19It's perfect.
38:20I love it.
38:21It looks amazing.
38:22Should we step into the dining room?
38:24Let's do it.
38:25Come take a look.
38:27What?
38:27What?
38:30Oh, my God.
38:31So much space.
38:32We can have a proper dinner party.
38:35I know.
38:36There's so much seating.
38:38Oh, I love the table, too.
38:40It matches the cabinets perfectly.
38:42Does the banquette have drawers?
38:44It does, but you can't see them.
38:46They're invisible.
38:47So cool.
38:48Oh, my gosh.
38:49Oh, wow.
38:51Whoa.
38:52Wow.
38:52So this is built in like it's permanent.
38:55It's so big.
38:56I know.
38:57It's huge.
38:57I'm going to sit.
38:58And comfortable.
39:00Easily seat eight people.
39:02We need more friends.
39:03Oh, my God.
39:04You look like the queen of the castle.
39:06Thank you, Grumpy.
39:08I really like the yellow stripes.
39:11Aren't they fun?
39:11Yeah.
39:12It looks perfect.
39:13The draped light I love.
39:15That is amazing.
39:16Yeah, and the separation looks really good.
39:18And it was tricky to figure out where to start and stop the paint.
39:22Oh, you did a great job.
39:23Yeah, it flows so well.
39:25And it feels so different and beautiful.
39:28And I can't believe we get to see more.
39:30What, do you guys want to go upstairs?
39:31Let's do it.
39:33Excited.
39:35Oh, the blue goes all the way up.
39:38Yeah.
39:38Surprise.
39:39Wow.
39:44Whoa.
39:47Yeah.
39:48Wow.
39:50It's so pretty.
39:50Oh, my gosh.
39:51I love the color.
39:52Chase, what do you think?
39:53I know it's not the most masculine of colors.
39:56I know, but it's a perfect bedroom color.
39:59Yeah.
39:59It really, like, calmed me down as soon as I walked in here.
40:02The bed looks so comfy.
40:05And you reused the lamps from the guest room.
40:07You found them in your guest room?
40:08Yeah, they were your great-grandmothers, I think.
40:11Yeah, I felt like they fit in here so well.
40:13Cool.
40:15New dressers.
40:15I love the settings.
40:16Look at this.
40:17Oh.
40:18That looks like your little special space.
40:20And there's this piece over here that wasn't there before, too.
40:24I know, that's so much better.
40:26We were so excited to ditch the high school dressers.
40:30And now you have a fully grown-up bedroom.
40:32Yeah, we're real adults now.
40:34All grown-up.
40:35Yeah.
40:35And those are the bars from Helms' Room.
40:38Yes, they are.
40:39Yes, the same ones, yeah, just reused.
40:42That's awesome.
40:43I love it all.
40:43I just want to go to bed.
40:45Yeah.
40:46So cool.
40:48That's so much better.
40:49Yay.
40:50Well, I'm really glad you guys like it.
40:51Helms' Room has a very different vibe.
40:54Let's do it.
40:55Okay.
40:56Let's go.
40:58Whoa.
40:59Oh, my God.
41:02Best birthday present ever.
41:05Wow.
41:06They're so cool.
41:07Oh, my God.
41:08They're so cozy.
41:12He's never going to want to leave.
41:14It just barely fits.
41:15Wow.
41:16I'm pretty happy.
41:17Wow.
41:17That's so cool.
41:18I love the lights in there, too.
41:20Aren't they fun?
41:21They're so cute.
41:22And you have storage.
41:24Yeah.
41:24Never too much storage.
41:26Look at this little desk, too.
41:28I know.
41:28That's adorable.
41:29Isn't that cute?
41:30Maybe he'll learn some things.
41:32Yeah.
41:33And the rug stayed, which works perfect.
41:36The rug, honestly, was so perfect.
41:39And Gigi's still here.
41:41That's the giraffe.
41:42Oh, well, Gigi needed to be here.
41:43He's going to freak out.
41:45I cannot wait for him to see it.
41:47I know.
41:47It's so different.
41:49So cute.
41:50He's going to love the ladder.
41:51And it's really sturdy.
41:53I've stood on it a lot of times.
41:55What do you guys think about the wallpaper?
41:57It's awesome.
41:58Isn't it so fun?
41:59Yeah.
41:59It goes so well with the color.
42:01Yeah.
42:02This is such a different vibe from before and the other rooms.
42:05Yeah.
42:05This is so fun.
42:07Well, this is the space that's been the most fun to pull together.
42:10But all good things must come to an end.
42:12So we're ready to give you back the key.
42:14But it won't be the same one because it wasn't colorful enough.
42:18Oh, my goodness.
42:19Oh, my goodness.
42:21Oh, that's adorable.
42:23Well, let's get Helms because I'm so excited to see his little face.
42:27Yes.
42:27Let's do it.
42:28I feel overwhelmed.
42:30I'm excited.
42:31Oh, my goodness.
42:32I mean, this is everything we could have wished for.
42:35A bone web.
42:37It's overwhelming in a good way.
42:39Every space is so different, but so great.
42:42And they all work really well together.
42:44It's fun.
42:45It's lively.
42:47Look out.
42:48It's blue.
42:50It's beautiful.
42:51Where are all my toys?
42:53Ha, ha, ha, ha.
