The Federal Government will not appeal the recent High Court ruling affirming Sabah’s right to 40% of net revenue derived from the state, said the Attorney General Chambers (AGC) on Tuesday (Nov 11), adding that the government will initiate negotiations with the state government immediately.

00:13The AGC said the decision comes after a special cabinet meeting to discuss the matter.
00:19They said the government will commence the process of negotiations with the Saba state
00:23government immediately. Last month, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled in favor of the Saba
00:28Law Society Judicial Review, saying that the government had acted unlawfully by failing to
00:34fulfill Saba's constitutional entitlement to 40 percent of the net federal revenue derived from
00:40the state for nearly five decades. The government has been asked to carry out a review on the grant
00:46due for the lost years within 90 days of the court's decision. The settlement repayments should
00:52be completed by 180 days thereafter. However, the AGC said it disputed the court's reasoning behind the
01:00judgment with regard to the abuse of powers by the government and failing to keep obligations since
01:051974. On Monday, UPCO President Datuk Iwan Benedict said he had tendered his resignation as entrepreneur,
01:14development and cooperatives minister, and he added that the AGC should not appeal the court decision,
01:21and if it did so, he would quit the government.
