00:00The UN is warning that millions of people risk being displaced because of climate change.
00:07Willem, can you tell us a little bit more about these concerns?
00:11Absolutely. These are stark warnings from the UN's refugee agency, the UNHCR,
00:18warning that they predict that 250 million people have been displaced
00:25due to climate-related disasters over the past decade.
00:30That amounts, according to their estimates, to around 67,000 people each and every day.
00:36They also have strong warnings for the future, what will continue
00:42unless the worst effects of climate change are not addressed.
00:46They warn, according to this new UN report, that nations impacted by severe climate-related hazards
00:52will go from just three nations at the moment to 65 countries by the year 2040.
00:59So some stark warnings there from the UN, really adding to this sense of urgency around this year's COP30.
