00:08Brooke Franklin recommends leaving leaves on the ground.

00:13and they can provide winter shelter for the sorts of small wildlife
00:16that help keep pests down and increase pollination in your garden.
00:19Charles Seabrook of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes that leaf litter
00:23can even protect the chrysalises of butterflies.

00:27naturalist Dave Mizajewski warns that leaves can also harbor pests like ticks,
00:31so you may want to remove some leaves,
00:33but still gather them into your garden or around the bases of trees.
