00:00What's up everybody, Damian here in today's gaming news.
00:02I hope no one is holding their breath for Elder Scrolls 6.
00:05Miyamoto discusses stepping back from Mario and Predator Badlands is off to a good start.
00:10This is your daily fix.
00:21The Elder Scrolls 6, one of the most hotly anticipated video games in the world,
00:25won't be out for some time yet despite being announced over seven years ago.
00:29In an interview with GQ Magazine to celebrate the release of Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition,
00:33Bethesda's Todd Howard said the Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off.
00:37He added,
00:41Skyrim was released on November 11th, 2011, and the Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed on June 10th, 2018.
00:47It is now seven years and five months after the announcement and we're no closer, it seems, to the release of the game.
00:52When the six year anniversary of the Elder Scrolls 6 announcement arrived in June last year,
00:56even Todd Howard paused to say, oh wow, that has been a while.
00:59The Elder Scrolls 6 is at least in production,
01:01with Bethesda confirming it had entered early development in August 2023,
01:05and early builds were available in March 2024.
01:07Now, in the GQ article, Howard has once again admitted that it's taken too long to get the Elder Scrolls 6 out the door,
01:13but did tease an Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion remastered style shadow drop without confirming anything.
01:18He said,
01:19I do like to have a break between them, where it isn't like a plus one sequel.
01:22I think it's also good for an audience to have a break.
01:24The Elder Scrolls 6 has been too long, let's be clear.
01:27But we wanted to do something new with Starfield.
01:29We needed a creative reset.
01:31Bethesda is currently play testing the Elder Scrolls 6, Howard revealed.
01:34So when will it actually come out?
01:36It seems likely at this point that it will be released for next gen consoles and PC.
01:40I like to just announce stuff and release it, Howard continued.
01:43My perfect version, and I'm not saying this is going to happen,
01:45is that it's going to be a while and then one day the game will just appear.
01:49The Oblivion remastered shadow drop was a test run, Howard teased.
01:52It worked out well.
01:53Meanwhile, the Fallout 4 anniversary edition just went live today.
01:57Moving on, Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has discussed how his role has changed
02:01after stepping back from leading development on Nintendo's most famous video game series.
02:05In a new interview, Miyamoto revealed he had now entrusted most of the work on new Mario games to others,
02:09though said he still played through the first half hour of new projects himself
02:13to ensure it felt like Mario to him.
02:15Speaking in celebration of Super Mario World's 40th anniversary,
02:18the veteran designer, now 72, also said he hoped to stay healthy until Mario's 50th anniversary in a decade's time.
02:24Miyamoto told Japanese magazine Casa Brutus,
02:27Nowadays, I have teammates who help maintain the world of Mario, so I entrust much of it to them.
02:32Even so, I always personally play through about the first 30 minutes of the game
02:35and check the interface thoroughly to make sure it really feels like Mario.
02:38Recent years have seen other Nintendo faces appear more prominently during Nintendo Direct broadcasts,
02:42with Miyamoto often only appearing to introduce new Nintendo concepts,
02:45such as the company's expansion into theme parks and movies.
02:48And while Miyamoto did appear during the Super Mario 40th anniversary segment in the most recent Nintendo Direct,
02:53he also handed over to long-term Mario designer and director Yoshiaki Koizumi,
02:57who fans believe is likely deep in development of a new 3D Mario game.
03:00Miyamoto continued, discussing his current work,
03:02with the help of many passionate people outside our company,
03:05Mario has expanded into theme parks and movies,
03:07and I'm really looking forward to how things will develop from here.
03:10Up through Super Mario Odyssey, I feel we've done just about everything we could on the Switch.
03:14In the past, whenever a new console came out, we always released a new Mario game,
03:17so I do wonder how the current team will take on that challenge.
03:20But maybe I'll say, I won't look anymore.
03:23I just hope to stay healthy until Mario's 50th anniversary.
03:26We hope so too, Miyamoto-san.
03:28And finally today, Predator Badlands looks like a hit,
03:30after it secured the biggest global opening ever for a Predator movie at the box office,
03:34including the Alien vs. Predator film.
03:36Dan Trachtenberg, who revitalized Predator with 2022's Back to Basics Prey,
03:40and this year's animated anthology Killer of Killers,
03:42has continued his hot streak with the PG-13 Predator Badlands.
03:45It has enjoyed strong reviews from critics, and we gave it an 8 out of 10.
03:49Disney said Predator Badlands opened to $40 million domestically and $40 million internationally,
03:54for a global opening weekend total of $80 million.
03:56That's the biggest debut for a Predator movie ever.
03:58For context, 2018's The Predator opened to $73.5 million.
04:02Predator began with 1997's much-loved Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle.
04:06Badlands is a very different film, less sci-fi horror, more mainstream sci-fi action.
04:10For the first time ever, the Predator is the protagonist, with a yaucha called Deck,
04:14out to prove himself to his father by killing a monster on a death planet.
04:17Along the way, he meets a Weyland-Yutani synth called Thea, played by L. Fanning in an Alien and Predator crossover.
04:23It's a big swing for Predator and for Dan Trachtenberg,
04:25but he was uninterested in essentially remaking prior Predator movies for this new sequel.
04:30In a recent interview with IGN, Trachtenberg said he was inspired by Terminator 2 when it came to making Badlands.
04:35Terminator 2 Judgment Day was like a movie my mom could watch, he said.
04:38So that was a part of it for me, like how to make something that was bold and visceral, but also emotional.
04:43I liked Predator Badlands a lot. I'm glad to see it's off to a good start.
04:48And that's your daily fix for Monday, November 10th.
