Richard’s journey in the call center space is filled with twists and turns. When he was 27 years old, he relocated to Costa Rica to train employees for one of the larger call centers in San Jose.

00:00There's a place called Delaware Avenue. It was right on the water and it's right downtown.
00:05And, you know, I was from the suburbs, but I would get a job at the first place was Rock Lobster, like the fancy, dancy, preppy place.
00:12Yo, man, they fired me for cutting a piece of cheesecake too big. You know what a trapezoid is, right?
00:17It was crazy. But listen, it's Nate and his girlfriend. Let's hook them up.
00:22But no, I got fired. And so Frankie, who was sitting at the bar, goes, Richie, come over here.
00:28I'm going to hire you at the Aztec Club in Kokomo Bay.
00:31It was a combo joint from a hardcore Philly discotheque to like some waterfall tropical scene in the middle of Philadelphia.
00:40And those are the best two summers of my entire life.
00:44You had to go around and literally meet 100 people a night and get them a drink.
00:48So you mastered the introduction. You started doing muscle memory for names or for orders and stuff.
00:53And it wasn't like some sort of thing where you're just hustling a table. That's boring.
00:58I was really working rooms. And so what fun jobs you could have in ways that are so interpersonal and interactive before the cell phone.
01:08And so I was doing this in the summer of 93 and 94, the best.
01:13And so that's what your buddy was doing back in the day, just honing those skills and feeling good about myself.
01:20So when it was time to represent our country somewhere else in the world, maybe we could do it in the best light.
01:28Good. We need all the good representation everywhere in the world now.
