00:07Only some of the next targets to be eliminated in the war on plastic.
00:12In New South Wales last year, over 935,000 tons of plastic was used.
00:18Only 15% of that is being recycled.
00:21Besides the environmental damage and the dangers of microplastics on human health,
00:26the minister highlighted the scale of the state's waste crisis.
00:30We're running out of landfill across New South Wales,
00:32and we're running out of it in Greater Sydney.
00:34Over 800,000 tons of plastic is currently ending up in our landfill.
00:37Part of what this plan is about, stopping that now.
00:40The plan aims to phase out pizza savers and bread tags by 2027,
00:45fruit and vegetable stickers by 2030,
00:48and to force food businesses to accept reusable cups by 2028.
00:53We see a lot of plastic just going into the bin,
00:56and with the compostable cups as well, you know, it needs a better solution.
01:00So, we're really excited to be on the right side of sustainability,
01:03and we're happy to adopt, you know, any new laws.

01:16Not only does this put New South Wales ahead of all the other states and territories,
01:22it also makes a very substantial contribution to the alarming problem of plastic pollution.
01:29A problem that still impacts our waterways, wildlife, and us.
01:35No doubt about it, but we think that's fine.
01:37So, let's try to avoid a new plant here.
