00:00What's up, everyone? It's Zach Braziller with the New York Post.
00:03St. John's loses to Alabama 103-96 in its second game of the season.
00:08Look, this was clearly not the way they wanted to play today.
00:12Defense wasn't good. They lost the rebounding battle, got outscored in the paint.
00:16Really had no answer for the Alabama guards.
00:19You know, just a tough one.
00:21Rick Pitino afterwards was mostly positive, felt this was a game they're going to learn a lot.
00:26He believes it's much more advantageous to play really good teams early to kind of learn what you can do better.
00:34The St. John's guards really struggled.
00:35I thought Ian Jackson and Oziah Sellers played much better in the second half.
00:39Zubi Ejiofor had 27-10, but was really held in check in the second half.
00:43Look, St. John's dug itself a hole.
00:46They were down, you know, 11 a few times in the second half.
00:49Came back, took the lead briefly, and they kind of ran out of gas.
00:52It was kind of the opposite of last year, where last year's team had that extra gear,
00:56and today Alabama had that extra gear.
00:59This is kind of new for St. John's and his fans, where you come into the year
01:03and with incredibly high expectations, you're playing this really, really tough non-conference schedule,
01:08and you played a really good team.
01:10Alabama's 15th to the country.
01:11They might be better than that.
01:13I think LeBaron Philan is as good of a guard as you're going to see.
01:18I don't think St. John's will face a better backcourt this season,
01:21especially not in the Big East.
01:23So, look, there's a lot to work on.
01:25They now have a week off.
01:27You know, Rick has said, we're going to lose more games than we did last year.
01:31They're playing a much tougher schedule, and, you know, there were some bright spots.
01:35I thought the frontcourt played well.
01:37The offense was good for the most part.
01:40No Dylan Darling clearly limited them a little bit on the offensive end.
01:43He has a calf injury.
01:44But they're just going to have to get better defensively, and, you know, I think they will.
01:48But today you really kind of showed some warts and shortcomings for this team.
01:52And now they have a week off before William and Mary to work on their defense,
01:57work on some of the issues.
01:59And, you know, we'll see you in a week.
02:01We'll see you in a week.
