Choirs from across Queensland’s southeast come together to form a larger ensemble

In a celebration of music and community, choirs from across Queensland’s southeast have come together to form one big ensemble.

00:19They've been practising with their local group since July.

00:23This is the first time they've come together as the greatest show choir.

00:27I call them Musical Villagers.

00:30Being guided by multi-award winning conductor Jonathan Welsh.

00:35Probably about 98% of them have not performed on the stage of Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

00:42So it's very, very special.

00:44With Sunday's show already sold out.

00:48I'm really nervous. I get really, really nervous.

00:52But I think it's kind of like a safety in numbers thing.

00:55She'll be taken to the stage with her 16-year-old daughter.

00:59So it's been really good for her, but it's a beautiful bonding experience for us as well.

01:04Singing tunes from Broadway's biggest hits.

01:07Oh, can't give too much away. It might be a bit of a surprise.

01:09But yes, there is some costuming involved.

01:11For this newly formed ensemble, it's about more than just the melodies.

01:21The choirs create new families of people that come together through their passion for music

01:26and for singing.

01:27I've met the most delightful people and rehearsals are always so much fun.
