00:43Welcome to Fool Us. Magic is like a man bun. Sure, I'm seeing it, but I don't understand it.

00:49So here to help us make sense of it all, the magic part at least, is our well-groomed duo, Penn and Teller!

00:57Whenever our dapper duo can't figure out how a trick is done, they give away a Fool Us trophy and a slot in their amazing Las Vegas magic show.

01:21Let's meet our first magician of the night.

01:26I do live in Madrid, a good strong magic community. I feel gratitude for the Spanish magicians before me.

01:32I was a teenager who was starting doing magic. My parents sent me to Dublin, Ireland.

01:38They had to take off cards with me and what I have learned is my magic is a way of communication.

01:44It doesn't matter which language you speak, magic is for everyone. I use a lot of cards and I also use poetry. I write poetry.

02:05It's full in Penn and Teller. I would love it to happen, but what is really amazing to me is that there are millions of people to this television.

08:49And it's really hard for you to get out of what I'm saying, not because of the language.

08:55The language is very clear, but the reason you're having trouble understanding the code words is there are no code words.

11:16Penn, Teller, you've been working together for 50 years.

11:20Elizabeth and I have been partners for just three.

11:23We haven't reached our golden anniversary yet, but we've learned that relationships work when you have a shared vision.

11:29It's true.

11:29In fact, every year we make a vision board together and bless it with a Latin chant.

11:33We know that sounds crazy, but last year almost everything on our board came true.

11:37We bought a house, won a Foolish trophy, and got engaged.

11:48We actually got to Vegas a couple days early this time to celebrate our engagement.

11:52It's been fun.

11:54I think.

11:54Actually, I don't remember much of anything.

11:56Now we have even more big dreams.

12:01It's true, but our vision board this year isn't finished yet.

12:04All we have so far is a picture of us and a little sticky note here I'll put in the corner so that we can sign our work when it's finished.

18:51We were going to get married, and Lou Reed, who you may know is one of my best friends, he was there with me.

18:57And the idea was that Lou was going to be my best man.

19:01And then he got distracted and ended up trying to drink Mick Jagger under the table.

19:06And it was just chaos.

19:08And I finally made a decision to not get married that night because of Lou Reed.

19:15So that's when that all fell apart.

19:16But I think you have a much, much better chance of your marriage being just absolutely wonderful.

19:23And as you know, I'm speaking in code.

19:25And you know a lot about speaking in code.

19:31And that brings us around to say that I don't think we're going to give you a trophy for your wedding present,

20:42Watching Harry Potter as a kid convinced me that magic was real, and that the world could be

20:49I wanted to learn everything about it.

20:52The first trick I learned, a simple sponge ball trick,

20:54made me feel like I was bringing magic to life.

20:58I was hooked and dedicated eight hours a day to practicing.

30:18They took me under their wings when I was 13, and they're still my friends today.

30:23Winning first prize for mentalism in the French Magic Championship was a dream come true.

30:29Next year, I hope to win the World Magic Championship.

37:29The first thing Teller said when he went out when you finished up was that's a good trick

37:36Very well laid out and it's really really nice now the problem with this kind of thing the whole trick is engineered beautifully the problem with this kind of trick

37:46In figuring it out and designing it is there's only

37:50So many ways you can do it so Teller and I were going back and forth and finally decided on one

37:56And then we also worked on the boarding passes and I will say again for those people at home that may not understand

38:03We're both wearing microphones the whole time. We're talking. There's people in a truck outside

38:09Listen to everything we say and when there's a case where we don't really know

38:15We throw it to the judges so in this case

38:18We usually get the boo or the cheer when we decide whether you win, but we don't know now

38:24We have no idea whether you fooled us or not until Brooke talks to the truck and they tell her

38:31So we will sit here in suspense and let the audience decide whether to love or hate the judges

38:38So this is really cool when this happens because we're gonna go to the judges

39:34Tonight our dapper duo will give us another glimpse into the inner workings of magic as they close out our show

39:48You know Brooke when you do a show like this by necessity you give away some magic secrets

39:54And some magicians think because we've given away a secret they can no longer do that trick in their act

39:59They can no longer use that gimmick and we don't think that's true for instance. Here's a gimmick. We really love

40:04It's called the peak deck these two decks look just like they're the same don't they do but

40:09This one is not this is called the peak deck you can see the top card right to touch it because sure

40:15It's just a piece of plastic all just a piece of plastic and you know about that now

40:20But you can still be fooled by it. That's our whole point. Would you like to see another tech?

40:24I would but here's a prediction here, okay, and we're gonna just go through the deck and just say stop whenever you want

40:30Stop so if you want that one that's down there the one in his hand this one that one down there, okay?

40:36Now that's our prediction the three of clubs that went down there is the card we predicted
