00:00Happy Thursday everybody, Max here with your fix of gaming news.
00:03Coming up, GTA 6 gets delayed yet again, The Legend of Zelda movie starts production,
00:07and Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser is convinced we will get a Red Dead Redemption 3 someday,
00:11but he probably won't be involved.
00:13Let's get into it.
00:16Grand Theft Auto 6 is still shaping up to be the biggest game of 2026, but it's going
00:27to be coming a little later in the year than expected.
00:30Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive held an earnings call this morning and broke
00:33the news to shareholders and the general public.
00:36Up until now, the sequel was targeting a May 26 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series,
00:40but now it has been delayed until November 19, 2026, meaning next fall's biggest games
00:45suddenly have the biggest game of all time to compete with.
00:48GTA 6 is expected to be the biggest launch of any type of media ever in terms of money
00:52it brings in.
00:53Previously, this honor was held by Grand Theft Auto 5, which launched 12 years ago and brought
00:57in a billion dollars in its first three days, and GTA 6 is expected to blow that out of
01:02the water by all estimates.
01:03GTA 6 reportedly began development way back in 2014 before getting officially announced
01:07as in development in February 2022.
01:09It was then scheduled to be released in late 2025 before getting delayed to May 2026, and
01:14as of today, it is delayed until November 2026, so hopefully it doesn't get delayed any
01:19further.
01:20The entire video game industry has been steering clear of GTA's May launch window, and a lot
01:23of publishers are probably scrambling to adjust their plans at this very moment to now steer
01:27clear of November.
01:28At the moment, the only big fall of 2026 that had a release window is Marvel's Wolverine,
01:33the PS5 exclusive from Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games.
01:36It is unclear which end of fall Wolverine was aiming for, but even a mutant healing factor,
01:40an adamantium skeleton, isn't immune to getting crushed to death by Rockstar's long-awaited
01:44blockbuster.
01:45Mark your calendars, everybody, and start thinking of good excuses to bail on Thanksgiving dinner
01:50with your family.
01:52Production is officially underway on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda games, and
01:56while there's still a whole lot we don't know, the filming location and a brief synopsis
02:00do give us a little more to go on.
02:02A filing was posted by the Film and Television Industry Alliance that lists the project as
02:06in production, with Wellington, New Zealand listed as a shooting location.
02:10The New Zealand countryside is a popular backdrop for fantasy films, with The Lord of the Rings,
02:14Hobbit, and Chronicles of Narnia movies all shooting on location there, so assuming this
02:18refers to filming outdoors, Hyrule should look appropriately epic, though Wellington is also
02:22home to special effects House Weta and a whole lot of sound stages, so it's also entirely
02:27possible this production is taking place behind closed doors.
02:30In any case, we also have our first official description of what this movie is about.
02:34The synopsis reads as follows.
02:36The Legend of Zelda follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule
02:40from the forces of darkness.
02:42The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce, an ancient relic
02:46said to grant limitless power.
02:48To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring
02:52treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can
02:57aid him in his quest.
02:58Okay, so nothing too surprising there, but it is interesting that it mentions Ganon, suggesting
03:02the villain's monstrous demonic form rather than Ganondorf, his more human form.
03:07Also this confirms that we're going to see puzzles and dungeons, which are two staples
03:10of the Legend of Zelda games, but it's also kind of odd that there's no mention of Zelda
03:14herself, so curious how she comes into play.
03:17Legend of Zelda is slated to hit theaters on May 7th, 2027, so we'll undoubtedly get
03:21plenty more details between now and then.
03:23We'll keep you posted.
03:24And finally, it's taken Rockstar games well over a decade to turn around the latest Grand
03:28Theft Auto sequel, so it might be a while until we get another Red Dead Redemption, but
03:32studio co-founder Dan Hauser seems convinced it's inevitable.
03:35Take all this for the grain of salt, since Hauser doesn't actually work at Rockstar anymore,
03:39but speaking on the Lex Friedman podcast, he talked about how it feels to see a new GTA game
03:43being made without his involvement, saying, quote,
03:46Letting go of something I worked on in one way or another for like 20-odd years and wrote
03:50on them for the last 10 or 11 that came out is a big change, and sad in a way.
03:54Because each of the Grand Theft Auto games was kind of a standalone story, I think it would
03:57probably be in some ways sadder if someone continued on Red Dead because it was a cohesive
04:02two-game arc.
04:03That might be more sad to hear someone working on that, but again, that will probably happen
04:07too.
04:07I don't own the IP, that was part of the deal.
04:10It's a privilege to work on stuff, but you don't necessarily own it.
04:13Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive, has referred
04:17to GTA and Red Dead Redemption as prominent franchises, and Red Dead 2 is one of the best-selling
04:21video games ever made, so Hauser's probably correct, but again, it has taken Rockstar
04:26a cool minute to make GTA 6, so we might be waiting a while for Red Dead 3.
04:31Before we go, if you're looking for some great games for cheap that help support a good cause,
04:34head over to IGN's sister site, Humble.
